Note: I complained to Petco and they are doing things to make it up to me, which I appreciate. But I still want to share this to caution people. This is the worst groom Molly has ever had. So uneven and choppy, as you can see in the pics. And the groomer shaved a bare strip between her booty cheeks, which is so weird in the first place but is also so uneven. What in the world? And her belly! The groomer shaved part of it down to the skin! I have no idea why. You're not missing any context here. I took her in for a regular groom and got this. Now my poor dog is traumatized and won't let me get near her to clean up the jagged edges, even though I've trimmed her butt a lot in the past. This new fear has to be because of the groom yesterday. No wonder, considering they shaved her right to the skin in some places! read more

The service is about as great as the establishment looks like, terrible. The building looks dilapidated, the interior of the store reminds me of a fallout shoot and loot location. I brought my seven-year-old hound dog there for a grooming service and to be completely honest, they barely provided anything I paid for. When I came to pick up my dog, I was immediately hit up for donations and tips and all sorts of other nonsense and I hadn't even seen my dog yet. I commented as such politely and with a smile. Following up that I would absolutely love to tip as soon as I see my dog and was given the worst look ever, and then the associate treated me like a POS for the rest of the interaction. I paid for the ultimate service that included all of the grooming add-ons and it was clear, She got a bath nothing more nothing less. These people should be ashamed and criminal level of guilt tripping they give is unacceptable, stay away from this place. read more

When we first found our kitten we brought him here and a sweet older lady employee helped us find everything we needed for our new addition. She helped us get a crate, litter box, scoop, ear wipes, and most importantly she showed us something called Capstar for fleas!!!! That was over a year ago(11/2015). But because of her we always come to this pet store for essentials for our cat and dog. They have a nice aquatic fish selection. There is a cat adoption section near the entrance, dog training section, and they do grooming. They have a HUGE selection of cat foods and dog foods, some a bit pricy. I often get emails from PETCO and I came in today to redeem my free Applaws cat food item, some dog food, treats, & a new "inescapable" cat harness/bungee leash. My favorite part of this store besides the cat adoption corner is the Dog Treat Bar! Really nice to be able to pick and choose what and how much and only pay for that. Oh and bring your pooch! Everytime I bring my Zeauxoui, employees shower her with love and treats. Great job PETCO. read more

Needed to pick a couple of things up from this location and the employees are honestly not that great. The reptile lady was very kind but I don't think trying to find hermit crabs under the substrate with scissors is at all appropriate. And then to also use the scissors to scrape off the dirt also is not okay. But what was worse was her shaking them to get even more dirt off. Aside from the hermit crab abuse the selection was not all that great. When checking out got lectured about how bad sand is for your hermit crabs since it makes them itchy??? Excuse me whattt that's what they typically live in in the wild. I understand if the person was new to hermit crabs but come on. read more

Do NOT ever take your dog to get groomed at the Kirkwood Highway Petco! I have been a long time shopper and never write negative reviews but I am disgusted how the Petco has handled their service. We took our long haired dog to get a trim and specifically asked the groomers not to cut it short. They disregarded our instructions and skinned our dog! When we went to pick our dog up, the groomers were laughing as if it were a joke. It is honestly so sad how little they care about the health of dogs. She has no fur left, and is traumatized. She is always an energetic dog, but now will not eat and is nervously shaking. I have not received any calls back from customer service. My boyfriend and I USED to be very loyal customers here, until today. My boyfriend (who happens to be black) went there today to pick up food for our dog. Immediately after entering he was followed by an employee named JOHN. His whole time shopping he was followed as well. As my boyfriend walked up to the register (the one closest to the door) JOHN proceeded to run past him and put his arms in front of the exit door , as to stop him from stealing something. I normally come here for my puppy needs and everyone is professional and friendly. I have never had any issues until they told me about the Vital Care membership. It was told if I sign up for I believe $20 I will get a free bag of dog food, a percentage off of his vaccinations for that visit and he gets free teeth cleaning and nail trimming for free. Sounds good right! Well I took him for his first teeth cleaning and nail trimming and was charged $5 for nail buffing. It was never said that if you choose buffing it will be a fee while nail cutting was free. It was not about the money but the lack of information. I decided to cancel the membership only to be sent a email telling me that I am in a year membership per my agreement. WHAT! This was NEVER explained. I was told I can cancel any time and now I have to email them to cancel only to recieve a email about a reason for wanting a cancelation for them to decide if they will cancel my membership or not!. This has put me in a discomfort and now I feel that all of this was simply for a sale. This had now made me question if I would want to spend another dollar here for the lack of detail and information. Then I was approached about a dog trainning class which I was semi interested in since my pup has been behaving a little so it was said it was $25. I suppose to have a 45 minute trainning session but all we did was sit and talk. I didn't know that my $25 was towards just talking but it was fine because I really like the woman. I have seen her often and spoken to her often as well. She even nicknamed my puppy which was cute now everyone calls him that lol. I didn't know that the cost going forward was $149 until I saw the receipt. It was told when I called about this that it is a 6 week class, once a week for a hour to teach him to sit, stay ect. I did not know that this is what I am paying for when I could just watch a youtube video on that. I thought the class was based on helping with correcting his behavior . He already know how to sit, stay and leave it. I was extremely disappointed on how I felt I was lead on so I asked for a refund and then a manager keep asking why and hesitated about my refund, the next manager told him just do it as if it was an inconvenience. If they had simply explained the details to the membership and training class they would not run into issues of customers wanting a refund or cancelation. These two situations within a few days apart has now made me feel as if it is all about a sale and giving proper information. I was no satisifed at this point. I don't know if I would continue to shop here. I am highly disappointed. read more

I am very pleased with Brittany our favorite groomer for Silly our beautiful mixed breed Australian Shepherd. Obviously that means a lot of fur. She is also not a big fan of getting groomed. Brittany and all the staff treat her very well with Love and that's most important. My only reason for not giving a four star is because I asked and paid $30 extra for the furminator shampoo and she is still shedding a lot. I know they can't get it all but I was hoping for less still coming off with every petting I give her. Two visits ago she wasn't shedding after at all so I don't understand and for the extra money I'm disappointed in only that. read more

This Petco is HUGE!!! The selection in here is fantastic! There is a whole section just for fish, reptiles, and amphibians. I don't have any of those pets, but it's sure interesting to take a look. This location is kind of a haul from me, but after a horrible pet disaster, I was desperate, and I was already shopping in Delaware, so I thought I'd give it a try. I had been out of the country for two weeks and my cat had had a bladder stone while I was gone. He had an emergency procedure, but the catheter had left him all leaky. My sister was caring for him, but didn't think things through and well basically locked him in the room with all my clean clothes that I had piled up to change over my winter wardrobe, and I came home to a urine soaked mess! Eww! Let me tell you, in case you haven't gotten to experience this wonder (and I hope you never do), cat pee reeks. I tried everything to get the stink out, but nothing worked. I got some Nature's Miracle from Petsmart, but that was basically spot cleaner. It worked, but it was taking forever to spray clothes that were soaked. I wanted the Nature's Miracle laundry booster to add to my laundry and get a lot of stink out at once. I couldn't find it anywhere except online. Thank goodness this Petco was well stocked and I was so happy to find that product there! Every other pet store seemed to carry Nature's Miracle, but not this particular product! I had almost given up! Petco saved the day! I also found some of my cat's favorite toys there that I hadn't seen at other stores in a long time. He likes the textured mice/fish toys with lots of feathers coming off of them. Oh and they have so many more cat bed, carriers, and scratching posts than at other places too! I didn't have one of those Petco cards, so I had to sign up for one of them to get the lower prices. It's annoying, but Petsmart does it too and so does basically every grocery store nowadays. However, the cashier was super friendly and helpful, so I didn't mind so much. I used to be a loyal Petsmart customer, but after seeing this Petco, I think I may head there more often. This has got to be the dustiest, dirtiest most disgusting store I've been in in a long time. The shelves are covered in dust and haven't been dusted in months. There had to have been 1000+ cigarette butts all over the entryway and garden out front. At the time we went there were no fish for sale in the entire store. Bird seed was way overpriced versus Concord Pet Foods. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

The grooming salon at the Kirkwood Highway store needs to do all they can to keep Ms. Brittany. I had two mini schnauzers Mojo and Diezel who absolutely lived her. Mojo was difficult but when he got to Ma. Brittany a different dog. Diezel would run to her and give her kisaawa. Both passed away this year and now new mini schnauzer "Taz" who will be 12 weeks old will make his first visit with Ms. Brittany on Feb 5th. I know she will take care of him and he will look perfect! She is an asset to this store - check the board and the # of grooming appts she has when working. Just recommended a friend "Buddy" black lab and he was a happy boy when he came out!!! Ashley did a 5 star job grooming my dog. She consistently treats my anxious dog well. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the store staffing. They had only 1 person in the grooming salon when I went to pick up my dog. The groomer is expected to groom dogs and check people in and out. Shame on Petco for the poor staffing. read more

the fish section primarily the betta fish section is so upseting, i came here to buy some aquatic plants and they werent even labeled which isnt to bad but then i looked at the betta racks,, it was so upseting, many fish were lopsided or at the bottom and their pamphlets say 1/4 gallon which is extremely unnacetable. they need a 5 gallon minimum. they really need to hire people who know how to take care of betta fish and can tell and treat sick betta fish. so many fish are suffering if you work there please do research so you can tell customers the right advice and treat your fish well. read more

This petco is ok, it is pretty big and carries a lot of pet items and has a grooming salon. What I'm disappointed in is that there are barely any employees working and they are not very helpful. When I approach the register, there is no one to ring me up. When I needed to buy some fish, no one was there to get them for me. My 9-month old golden retriever had a mini makeover and looks beautiful! Not only did they do a great job on her paws and grooming, my puppy loves her groomers. They have a lot of selection but can be a little pricey. I went to get cleaner for the carpet after my cat peed. They have Nauture's Miracle, which worked really well. I was looking for a calming collar or calming treats and I couldn't find them. It would be nice if they had a section for a of that. Maybe I missed it though? Finally a pet store that truly takes care of the creatures that it has for sale - from fish to ferrets everything is housed properly and in nice, clean conditions. The sales people are knowledgeable and friendly. Whenever I stop in there, someone greets me and asks if I need help. After a questionable experience at another area Petco, we arrived at this location (thinking it was one of the competitors), but went in anyway. We had seen a cat tree on Petco's website for $119 + free shipping. Decided since we were here to ask again about matching online price (we really had wanted to take one home today). We approached a clerk to ask to speak with the manager. I must say she was extremely friendly and understood our issue, though she still explained that they usually did not match the online pricing even for identical merchandise. At least SHE called the manager over and ASKED if it was possible to help us with this issue. The manager explained to HER that he really could not do anything. I found it slightly annoying that my wife and I were standing right there in front of him and he could neither adress us directly or even look at us for that matter. So I guess Petco really did not care about our business. As stated in my post about the other location, Amazon.com got a slightly higher amount of our money. Obviously we have to wait for the item to be shipped, but at this point it is on principle. I work in retail myself, and I fear that companies that have different pricing on their websites and do NOT give their store associates leeway to match that pricing - if only when the customer asks about it - are not going to fare so well in the long run. read more
