It was a hot day out, so I decided to swing by Petco with my Boston Terrier, Lexi, for a little air‑conditioned browsing (and outfit modeling, of course ‍). One of the best things about Petco is that they're dog-friendly, which means Lexi can join me while we explore. We popped in to check out the clearance racks for pet clothes (Lexi has a whole wardrobe, so you already know we had to look ). While we didn't end up buying anything this trip, the real highlight was the ferret tank -- and Lexi was mesmerized. The ferrets actually walked right up to her on the other side of the glass, almost like they were trying to start a conversation. It was honestly the cutest thing! We also got stopped several times by fellow shoppers -- Lexi's outfit was a hit as always, and she loved the attention. The store was clean, organized, and the staff was kind, though we didn't need much assistance this time. Even without a purchase, it was a fun little outing and a perfect way to beat the heat. We'll definitely be back (and maybe next time, I'll leave without resisting the clearance section ). read more

I went to the store on South Plaza Monday 4/27 and WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THE STORE AGAIN. I went for cat litter and a new litter box. There was boxes everywhere. You could hardly get around the store. Four employees (one manager) talking about something they did a few nights ago, not store related. They could see I was struggling with the bags. ( I'm in my 60s and have problems with my knees) None of them offered to help me and when I went to ask they looked away from me. Once I got to the checkout, he was talking to two customers about a concert. After waiting a few minutes I had to ask if they'd mind if he checked me out. Then the guy checking out had an attitude towards me. I got more help from a random guy that made a point to hurry down the sidewalk and helped me put my things in my car. I shop here for my cat Mr. Biggalsworth. He's super picky, and Petco has a good variety of options. The store offers grooming and other services. You'll normally see cute dogs in the store while shopping. I saw a dog who was celebrating her birthday, so I had to get her a treat... She was so cutttteee!! Anyways, the store is clean and normally well stocked. They have a reptile section so if you are scared like me, go to the right and walk around... I do anything I can to avoid snakes and lizards!! They also have cute little furry ferret's on display. The cat food is a decent price I guess, but let's be real, pet food is getting pricey to. My cat is about to need a job to support his spoiled little furry buns, we should be able to claim them on taxes just like kids. Lol. They have cute outfits and costumes for pets as well. Almost anything you'd need for your furry friend!!! The staff is friendly and they have a rewards program. So make sure you sign up. Check them out. read more

She's the one that offered me the refund and I told her that I had called the CEO numerous times and no one's ever called me back so yeah I'd like to talk to someone but no one will call me back. Cashier working in the evening at 5:30 on August 25th was extremely rude and not helpful. I had asked about the price of some PRIDE collars that were piled into the 50% off pride bin in the front. She expressed that she did not know why those were in there but they were full priced and she was not the manager and couldn't change the price on them, and that she was only there a few times a week. Do better and maybe you could sell more merchandise. A lot of the shelves were empty and needed to be re stocked. read more

Arrived at 10:40 on a very slow Tuesday morning searching for pill pockets. At least 2 employees passed me without asking if they could helpme find anything, and eye contact was made. When I approached the check-out to inquire if the product was even carried in the shop, the young lady points to a general area behind me and says, "There are some hanging there," or there are some in health and wellness. There were none"hanging there" and I finally found some in health and wellness. Now, I have never shopped in this store, and I understand in any establishment when times are busy, but I was 1of maybe 2 customers and I never felt more bothersome to them. I have been bringing my dogs here to get groomed on and off. This morning however my husband was first in line with my dogs for a basic nail trim and dremel. The women checking in decided to take the other dogs in line behind mine, because they "had appointments" . Then proceeded to talk about how they need to hangout again. My husband walked out. I have gone numerous times with appointments and still have to wait and on top of that my dogs go and wait in a crates until they have time. This Petco is in a large and clean strip mall shared with a Harris Teeter, Marshall's and several fast food places and additional stores. Plenty of parking and a clean and well maintained lot. Inside is a standard Petco with a Banfield and grooming area. These stores have loads of options for your pet. I'm a dog owner and have always found the food, toys, and other accessories that my babies need here. Banfield is not my favorite. But that's another story. I recommend Petco for reasonable prices for pet care items and a large assortment of food. read more

they are so freaking slow and rude. i put in a curbside order to pick up for just a couple small cans of cat food simple, so i thought. i pull up and am in a slight rush but thats on me. i am waiting in my car for about 10-15 mins. okay thats fine annoying, but fine maybe they didn't see the notification or whatever. i go in, there's a very long line with only one worker in sight, okay now i understand. so i wait in line and scan around for another employee, i don't want to be rude and cut everyone else who's been waiting. a manager or someone else finally comes around after about 15 more minutes. i pull him to the side and ask like i have a pick up order and im kind of in a rush i've been here for 20 minutes i just want my order. his response is "20 minutes seems a little excessive" in a very rude almost degrading tone. i got my order after he couldn't even find it and left. in total i waited about 25 30 mins. never going back that ruined my entire day. I have gone to Petco since day one! The store has gone "to the dogs" this year.....At the beginning of the year there was a MASS EXODUS in staff from the Manager to the groomers! Petco used to be my go to for all my animals supplies & grooming. Not anymore as the staff has a "I don't give a $h!t" attitude and the store is now having to close at 5pm today due to being "short-staffed"? PetsMart here I come!! Hopefully the GOOD employees that are there (which is not many) will get a clue and look for employment elsewhere!! read more

Today we took our pup to this Petco to get his shots with Vetco ; Which the team was amazing! Then we were helped at the front register by Tayo and the manager Stephanie. They assisted us with transferring our points and even contacted a third party to help make sure that we received all of our points back. For some odd reason our points were showing up in different accounts! (Ghost ones )! So, they were not allowing us to use the points for our pups rewards. They took their time and provided great customer service! Our pup has gone here in the past for a grooming session and they did a good job as well! read more

I took my 2 kittens there for uri. One had some discharge from one eye. They gave me oral antibiotics and no eye medication. I 2 days the kitten with eye discharge went from not to bad to worst. I've been keeping them separated. The one without the discharge is better the other. Now I have to take the one with the eye discharge to another vet. Oh, and they wanted to revax my kittens. They are up to date on their shots. They don't need a double dose of vax. Don't waste your money going there. read more

Your manager(?) literally saved my bird's life. I hope you're ready for one hell of a story. I had driven over an hour to the nearest emergency clinic due to an ear infection in my budgie that had gotten severe. There I waited, unable to leave the parking lot as I had gotten no word from the vet. If you don't know, birds in general are extremely prone to anxiety due to being prey animals, so waiting around while being surrounded by cats, dogs, and strangers didn't do her much favors. I wasn't even able to eat, and never took my medication as a result of scrambling to treat her until Monday when her avian vet is open. After waiting over three hours, they believed that it was excessive and wasteful to give her antibiotics. Instead they told me I would have to wait until monday, but since birds are delicate and she was already in pain I didn't know if I had that much time. I refused to go home empty handed after so much struggling and had just finished snapping at the staff in the middle of a parking lot when I called you and begged your store to sell me one thing despite closing in minutes. They could have hung up the phone and essentially told me to piss off. But they were patient and told me what to do so the process was smooth. Even in the middle of a phone call, the employees were patient and understanding every step of the way. The vet had called me wondering if I was going to come back because I had left to get medicine so suddenly. I actually brought up how you had done far more in a matter of minutes than she had done in the span of nearly FOUR HOURS. I'm not sure what happened, but she did end up giving me the medication I needed after that. I fought so hard for Sheerow because when I found her, she was stuffed in a garage all alone and was terrified of everything. Her previous owner was unable to pick her up due to an emergency, so she was left with uncaring people who didn't even let her see the sun. They said she was too loud and a nuisance despite her singing because she is just so happy to be alive. These past few months I've spent with her, I've seen her become more and more confident (to the point of being a total diva) while watching her personality shine. She's a bit of a glutton and tries to show off to even the big conure of the house. One of her first tricks was banging the cage door every time she was hungry so I could refill her bowl. She loves bells and will play with any rattle you can find. Don't even get me started on jewelry. She will swipe those up in the blink of an eye. There is so much personality crammed in such a tiny little bird, and I was able to do something for her because of what your employees did. I didn't have a chance to thank them or even ask for their names. I'm sure must have thought I was crazy while I was running out of the store. I'm usually not like this, but I couldn't let her suffer as her owner. I didn't want her to think just because she was small, she didn't matter to me. Sheerow was so calm she actually fell asleep on the car ride home. I can't really say she's out of the woods yet, but at least Sheerow has a better chance of fighting this infection and fever more than ever thanks to you. We bring our pet Grissom, a Tibetan Spaniel to their grooming since we arrived here in 2016. Allyssa and team are great in taking care of our Grissom. Always an awesome grooming experience. Unfortunately I'm not a happy dog owner. I brought my small 5lb dog at 12 noon. I asked for a low cut and they cut all of his hair off without consulting me. They tried to tell that his hair was matted. I refuse believe that. He's been groomed all his life monthly. Not only that but I brush and comb him. After 4 hours, I drove to the store since I was unsuccessful at reaching anyone in the grooming department to see what was taking so long. They cut all of his hair off without consulting me. Not 1 phone call. Not 1. He looks horrible. They didn't cut his nails as I asked them to. His face around his mouth is totally a mess. RIDICULOUS!!! My dog used to love going to petco with me, now when we pull up to the store he starts shaking and whining, it began after he was groomed by Corrine. A simple bath and nail trim which hes had every 3 months since I got him about 5 years ago and I dont know what she did to him but he is traumatized. I tried to give petco another chance with a different groomer thinking it was just Corrine, and when I showed up for my appointment they "had no record of it" even though I showed them the text confirmation. The girl was rude and said she wasn't going to do it today and I'd have to reschedule when I said no I need it done today she said "that's not gonna happen". Then she asked about his vaccines [[which were done at the vet clinic at Petco]] and up to date saying they werent up to date and no groomer will touch my dog so dont bother rescheduling. I have a newborn baby and its a lot of effort to take him anywhere and extremely frustrating when it was a waste of my time. Take your pets elsewhere. My dog is a one year old chihuahua-papillon mix. Papillons are known for the butterfly-like hair off their ears. I brought my dog, Teddy, to this location to get groomed (and a nail trim) for the first time. I had TWO simple instructions. Do NOT shave him, and do NOT cut off that beautiful hair around his ears. They were accommodating to getting us in relatively quickly, and incredibly friendly, but that is the only reason this isn't a one star review. Teddy was shaved completely, and that beautiful hair off his ears is now completely botched. Aside from shaving him, they ignored his bushy tail entirely without so much as a trim. Along with his terrible haircut, his nails are sharp and jagged and seem like someone rushed. read more

This is a review about the grooming services. Friday I wanted to get my dog groomed. I looked online and there were no prices or scheduling available. So I called at 6:30pm and they said that the groomer had gone home for the night because she broke her arm. Although usually they stay open 8-8. Saturday I physically went to the store and everyone was very nice. We got her scheduled for 1:30 the next day (sunday). Today I went in. I let the staff know this was my dogs first grooming experience. She is a senior and needs extra loving. My dog is a dream. Very sweet, obedient, but very nervous to be away from her parents. The groomer understood and said it may take 2-3 hours because she wanted to spend extra time with her. Also my dog was getting the deshedding treatment. At 5pm I had not heard from anyone. By now it had been 3.5 hours. So I called and asked about my dog. They said "Oh yeah! She's been ready!". Apparently someone was supposed to call me and they dropped the ball. I ran to my car and sped to PetCo. My dog gets very anxious being away from us so I knew she was not a happy camper. Once I got there they said that someone was supposed to have called us but they guess she didn't hear the groomer or something. I think there needs to be a better protocol set in place where the groomer herself calls the parent when she is finished with the dog so nothing goes a miss like this. How long had my dog been there? When I asked the girl how long it normally takes she said 2-3 hours. Had she been sitting there for 1.5 hours? Or 30 min? When I came in my dog WHALED and WHALED from being without me. This made me incredibly anxious for her. I became angry that I was not notified the second she was done. I can't stress enough how anxious she is without us. Anyway, I didn't scold anyone, because these things happen. But I wanted to write a note. Something permanent, so this can be brought up in a staff meeting or something so this will not happen to other pet parents. The GROOMER should call the parent. NO ONE else. And it should be done the second the dog is done. I feel that this was unacceptable. Also, when I picked her up I wondered if she had even been brushed? Huge clumps of hair were still coming off of her. She smelled as though she had a bath and looked like she had a trim, but I highly doubt she was brushed. Which was the MAIN reason I brought her in. All in all I will NOT recommend this facility to anyone. Not only because of the incident, but because of the poor job that was done on the grooming. Not worth the $55 for my Blue Heeler. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Although this store has been open for several years my first visit was this week, since it's not in my normal shopping area. But I was in the neighborhood & badly in need of a Pull Harness to preserve my body. No, I don't plan to wear the harness myself. It's for my 80 pound muscular precious puppy. She thinks chasing things blowing in the wind, while on a leash, is a really fun game. The result is a lunge & chase made with unimaginable strength. It has been the general consensus that sooner or later I would be hitting the concrete as a result. So this, in essence, was an emergency purchase. My friend & co-worker, who we all defer to regarding dog decisions, found a picture of what I needed. That particular item wasn't on the Petco Web Site. So my quest was to find something similar. Entering the store, I immediately saw 2 employees who were stationed at the cash registers. The layout was great. The 2 check out counters were parallel to the front wall. The ladies manning them stood in front, rather than behind the counter, making them much more approachable. When both offered to assist, I handed one the harness picture and told her I needed something like that for an 80 pound puppy who likes to chase things blowing in the wind. She showed me 3 different choices, explained the differences, the pro's & con's of each, and even told me the one their trainer preferred. When I chose the latter, she signed me up for their rewards plan & suggested keeping the receipt in the event a return was required. Her advice was well taken. Today I had to return and exchange the harness for a different size. That process was extremely easy. And today's employees, also standing in front of the counter, were equally as approachable & friendly. The store itself is squeaky clean. The floors absolutely shine. I was tempted to stoop down & see if I could see my reflection in the floor. The layout is well thought with plenty of aisle space. There is a lack of the large number of upfront & aisle displays that make shopping at most pet stores difficult. I can't remember a single time that I haven't brushed against & knocked something off a crowded display as I attempted to navigate my cart down the cluttered aisles of competitor pet stores. Why didn't I give this store a 5? Simply because I rushed in & out on a one item quest. I need to return when I can peruse the store and determine how well stocked it is regarding canine essentials. That said, based in the 3 varying Pull Leash choices, I suspect I will be pleased with the results of my inspection. My only problem is the location. It was well chosen based on the building boom in the area. But.... selfishly, I would prefer it to be in the Shore Drive, Town Center or Lynnhaven area. Shopping at Petco was an extremely pleasant & easy experience. I will be back. read more

I've been a long time customer at Care-A-Lot and occasionally hit up Petsmart if I can't make the drive to CAL. Well, my daughter knew I needed to make a trip to get cat food and since she found coupons for free cat litter, she thought we should at least try Petco. We were "greeted" unenthusiastically by a sullen cashier when we reached the register. When we presented the coupon, she unapologetically informed us that Petco was not accepting the coupon and they had sent an email out to customers to inform them. Neither of us got the email. Needless to say, we drove out of our way with the intent of considering a new place to purchase pet supplies to not only have our coupons rejected, but to deal with a moody young lady. That won't happen again. I will get a small portion of grocery store food at the last minute before stepping foot in here. I have been searching for the perfect food for my now one year old border collie/ gsd. She loves wet food so much and she's never been picky about her dry food either. We tried Wholehearted lamb n lentil dry food and she's totally lost interest in it. I tried feeding her the wet food and she actually refused to eat it!!!! I took her for a check up. She is fine. She just doesn't like something about the Petco Brand , she dislikes it adamantly. We are going to try Lucy. It's more expensive but I want the best for my baby girl. I was refunded my money without hesitation so I'm very happy with their customer service. I also received a note from Petco apologizing and they are going to look into it. I really appreciated that because the animals are consuming what we feed them and we need to give them healthy, nutritious food. read more

Unfortunate experience all the way around; writing this because of the sorry excuse that was made. Brought my cat in for vaccine. They ran 35 minutes late, which we spent in the car. Then, the technicians (two of them) refused to vaccinate my cat because she was "aggressive". This will be her forth vaccine in her lifetime and I've never heard an excuse given for a required and necessary treatment from a vet. I guess I'll use that aggression excuse if they try and make me take one. read more

This review is only for the store itself. I actually love the groomers and they are the only reason why I continue to frequent the store. Today I took my dog for grooming for a 9:30am appointment. I was looking at the price of dog food as I wanted to purchase later (store didn't open until 10:00am). A lady approached me in an abrasive tone stating I couldn't look around the store as they were not open and it was a safety issue (?). I returned late to pick up my dog and attempted to price match with chewy.com and PetSmart.com and was advised they only price match with Petco.com (huh???). I later went to their website which indicated that they price match online prices of competitors. I called customer service to indicate additional training might be needed. I was advised that price matching with competitors are only with online orders (huh?? What?!) I also take issue with the lack of friendliness of their staff which I have mentioned in store. I come here mostly to get my dog groomed, since I find most of the merchandise to be pretty $$. However, all of the staff have been extremely friendly and helpful whenever I needed anything. I did get them to price match dog food for me cause on the store website it was about $5 cheaper than in store. Weird. The grooming staff does a pretty good job with my pup and she is by no means an easy dog to clean up. She gets very feisty but the staff has generally been able to get the job done. The first time, we got her the bath plus hair trim for her nether regions and it came out perfectly! This time I felt like they could have done a better job brushing her cause she came home shedding more than usual. All in all, my pup comes home smelling nice and she is super soft so there's isn't much to complain about. Price wise is very reasonable, I pay about $30 total but that may vary from dog to dog. read more

Took my Yorkshire Terrier to Petco for grooming and they did a horrible job on him. The shaved him to about 1/4 inch head to tail including cutting off his mustache and shaving his ears. He looks nothing like as Yorkshire Terrier which I specifically asked for. He also had no cologne on nor did they use any scented shampoo or anything. Nails were cut but left very rough. Not worth the $54.00 I was charged for his grooming so I will not be going back. read more

The closest Petco around so Riot and I tend to frequent this place. They do keep a nice stock of Halo Mint treats that my pup loves! Everything is a bit pricey but far cheaper than Petsmart. They have a nice Raw Hide bar at the front so I can easily grab a couple of the tie knots raw hide for the monster. There's also a small section of 2 for $5 toys at the front, which some are pretty durable. If they only carried Taste of the Wild, I'd say this would be my one stop shop for all things dog. Also doesn't hurt that they like mailing me 10% off coupons and $7 off purchase. Oh and $5 off coupons after totaling purchases of $100 with their rewards program :) The Con is that the staff here is a bit on the stuck up "I don't really want to be here" attitude. Sometimes you get nice friendly smiles and laughs but other times its just a miss. But I do find them to be much nicer than the staff at the new Care-A-Lot on Indian River. read more

We have come to this petco before at least a couple of times for walk in nail grinding. I've noticed those times there is always a lack of staff in the grooming department during evening hours. We went around 4:30 this evening and there was only one person already in the middle of grooming a dog who didn't acknowledge me standing there. We went to petsmart instead and there were like 6 people, super friendly, and did a great job. I think there should be at least two people in the grooming department at all times because it's impossible for one person to groom and greet customers coming in at the same time. If there's a dog that needs more than one person to safely perform the services they shouldn't have to be told to come back during the day when there's more people. I feel bad for the groomers there. read more
