these people are terrible and unprofessional. i drove a hour just to get my dogs nails clipped because all the other ones were booked for grooming. the groomer sam is absolutely terrible. she told us on the phone the tag will be okay and that we didn't need to bring paper work. couldn't even get the nails clipped and i drove a hour. terrible place don't risk your animal with them! read more

We had the exact same problem as James who left a review. We've been taking our dog to Petco in Sandusky for months. We take off work to drop her off and pick her up. Today my husband takes her in and Sam asks if she has a heart condition. My husband stated that she did. They requested an email from the vet. My husband provided an email from the vet stating that she could be groomed. The manager got involved because Sam still refused to groom our dog. Sam overrode the manager's decision and the vets. So we are now going to to a different groomer. The manager was very professional. Sam was not professional or nice at all. read more

I bought two Guinea pigs and a leopard gecko and the employees told me almost nothing about how to keep them healthy or safe. One Guinea pig died of gut bloat because the Petco employees had told me absolutely NOTHING about bloating and my leopard gecko went blind due to a lack of a certain vitamin that petco also told us NOTHING about. In conclusion their workers are lazy and unknowing of animals. I am positive any other pet store you would be better off with. read more

Was in the Sandusky Ohio Petco last evening and had to deal with a VERY Unprofessional Employee Named Bryce. Not a Customer service type of Employee AT ALL. I asked to speak with the Store Manager, and he stated he was the Night Manager. I can not believe anyone would give him that position. Been coming to PETCO for years spending lots of money for the pets there, and Employees have been nice in the Past and helpful. But I have moved my business to Pet Supplies Now because of Bryce. Not a Good Selection to make to have him in charge at night of your store. Very BAD attitude!!! read more

I've been keeping fish for 30 years (20 of them with multiple tanks) and currently have an entire aquarium room I built in my house. I go back to this particular Petco in Sandusky simply because of the staff they have. Their management is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and they have several workers that stand out as passionate, experienced, and who you can tell take pride in the animals they care for. Some standouts are Josh, Bryce, and Taylor (aquatics and reptiles). They deserve recognition because I'm sure I'm not the only one who comes back simply because of them. If you are in the area you will not be disappointed in the advice you receive (unless you're looking to put an Oscar in an un-cycled 10 gallon) and hopefully this review changes someone's mind about this specific big box store! I hope Petco knows what they have with the staff here and adjusts their pay accordingly! read more

We've been taking our dog to the Sandusky Petco for grooming for the past 4 months. We are originally from NY. Our dog is 12 years old with a heart murmur and no groomer has ever had issue with grooming him. Neither did Petco until today, when the clerk (Morgan), refused to take him because of his murmur. Said it was "Petco" policy. Funny that it was never an issue for the other 4 times he was there for grooming. Petco seems to have a history of either not knowing their policies or selectively enforcing them. Extremely poor service. Will never to there again. read more

Avoid this awful place for grooming at all. While visiting the area last month, I took my jack Russell here to have a simple bath, nail clip & anal gland. When I got him back to my Dad's he was scratching like crazy. I thought it was due to his swimming in the lake each day. I just picked him up from my regular groomer. He said the poor dog had a pocket of poo in his anal gland the size of a grapefruit. He was surprised he had not ruptured his rectum with the amount in his gland. He said in his 30 years grooming he had never seen anything like this. Obviously the idiot at petco had no idea what he was doing. And the itching was my dog trying to express the gland himself. I feel so stupid taking my dog to such a terrible place and I hope this review will keep someone else from making the same mistake. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GROOMERS! Incompetent!!!! read more

I wish that I could rate this less than 1 star. I bought a fish from here to put in my tank. The fish was on it's side when they put it in the bag. I brought it back in and said hey this doesn't look right. They told me it was normal. They gave me another one and told me that the fish would be fine. So I took it home since they don't have a return. Later after putting one of the fish in my tank my fish suddenly started dying. One by one that week I had 10 fish die. It was about 100 dollars in fish. I have had a tank for 5 years. The parameters were perfect. I @Petco tweeted them and told them about the problem. They later called me and told me that I am not allowed to buy fish from them. Their fish die within a week. Don't buy from them. Aweful service. And they will ask you 1,000,000 times what size tank you have. read more

Was in Petco (Sandusky) looking at toys and turned around to see a med-lg size dog in the groomer area, with the loop around its neck, trying to get up on the table, standing in an inch of fur that had been cut off, with NO HUMAN IN SIGHT. Asked the man next to me if Doggo was his, as he too had been drawn to the window to watch this dog. He said no, b/c if it was, he would be in there comforting it. We looked around for someone for another minute and I headed for the front of the store. As I walked by the front of the grooming area, I saw a woman sitting at desk on a computer--on the OTHER SIDE of the wall and door of the dog's area. I walked up to one associate and started to ask, "Do you know if there is a groomer on duty?" but before I could get it out, she just walked past me to the register--literally like a robot, like I hadn't just asked her what was a quick question. I asked another employee there and she gave a weak response, instead of stating, "I'm going to look into it right now." If she has assured me she'd find out what was going on, I'd have been happy. I simply did not think the dog should be in a dirty room unattended with a rope around his neck. Since the women didn't seem too concerned, I pulled out my phone and walked over to the window, took a pic, then started videoing. The second woman swoops right in on me and says, "That is standard protocol if the groomer has to go do something else." Let that sink it. It is PETCO'S POLICY TO LEAVE DOGS UNATTENDED AND TIED TO A TABLE WITH A ROPE AROUND THEIR NECK WHENEVER THE GROOMER HAS TO DO SOMETHING ELSE. She made this point to me THREE TIMES, so there is no question she was stating that this is not only normal, but company policy. I asked to speak with a manager, and she said, "I am the manager." I said something about dogs having died from this very situation and her response was, "That was Petsmart." The dog was unattended when I walked in, so in total, he was alone for approx. 4-5 minutes. Not to mention that when I walked by and saw the groomer on the computer, in no way did she appear to be getting up anytime soon. As a matter of fact, she did not come back into the room until the manager went and got here. And that is FINE with PETCO. Here is a pic of the dog in the dirty room, and that is the table he was trying to climb up on. (Not sure I can post a pic here.) He could get his front paws up but luckily nothing else. He was not giving up, though. If you know this dog's owners, I would appreciate you passing this info along. I would also appreciate you passing this along to others who might like to know how Petco treats pets that come through. We have this discussion on occasion in our rescue: the problems with using Petsmart or Petco for grooming services. However, I want the general public to understand, too. After what I saw today...honestly, I am so upset. If they treat family pets like this when the public is around, what goes on behind closed doors with the animals that employees do not have to answer for? I'm horrified to even think about it, tbh. Time reference: When I got in my car it was12:19 PM, and the date was Tuesday, October 9, 2018. I'm pretty sure I swore at one point, and the manager said, "I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Let's be clear: The manager was more concerned about one adult woman swearing in front of another adult woman (no voices were raised) than she was about the safety of that dog. Me swearing under my breath is a problem and a punishable offense; the treatment of that dog was routine, normal, and perfectly acceptable. read more

Worst grooming my dog has ever had. Practically skinned alive with the razors. He has sores all over his body and is in pain. Seriously I am worried about him and giving him aspirin. Admittedly he had an overgrown coat due to this horrendous winter but he did not have to be shaved that deeply. This was more like a sheep sheering than a dog grooming. What a crappy pet store. I moved up here from another state and now this is the closest one. Bad quality. I buy fish there and all their fish have ick so it trying to cure them and they die anyway. What a waste of money. Their expensive cat home had missing holes so we couldn't assemble it properly. Did realize until it was the last part. Would not recommend this store. I had a hamster and the first day we bought him we bought a yellow wire cage and he likes to climb one day I came home and his leg and claw was stuck in the wire cage we went there and they said they don't sell that cage but they did when we got him and they said we didn't buy the hamster there but we did and they didn't do anything but give us a number for a vet the vet was nice and cut his leg off for free because I was crying and screaming and he was nice he had a fake leg too don't buy a wire cage at petco or pet supply plus. read more

I was a regular customer here since I have a dog, two cats, two turtles, and saltwater fish. They have everything I need for reasonable prices. However, DO NOT purchase salt water fish from here. I've wasted so much money there on fish that do not last. The fish are not properly cared for and are all sick most of the time. I understand that there is no guarantee on salt water fish, but come one. I can't believe I paid $25.00 for a fish that didn't even make it home and they wouldn't return it. I would suggest l&s aquatics. Higher prices, but the fish are in way better condition. The fish I have from them I have had for quite a while now with no issues. The customer service isn't the best either. I went in and got a yellow tang. An older lady helped me. Now I know tangs are very fast and would take some time to catch. I waited about 20 minutes and by the time she got him she was soaked and had water all over the floor. She had an attitude to begin with, and when I informed her she got the wrong one her attitude was so much worse. There were only 2 of that fish and only one was healthy. She tried to give me the one that was missing an eye. I'm sorry, but I won't pay $40 for that. read more

I took my doodle to this petco store and almost fainted when I went to pick her up and she had been completely shaved...so close that she had nicks all over her skin. I could NOT believe it!
