I arrived at 9 AM on my break from work to get a heat bulb for my lizard, which is my class pet. A young man was out front who I assume is an employee and he informed me that the manager is not there yet to open up the store. At this point over 30 minutes, have gone by and I'm still waiting in the parking lot for the manager to arrive. Big props to the employee who arrived on time despite his managers tardiness I hope that the manager arrives to work soon before my break is over. I had a grooming appointment scheduled for my dog at 1:00pm on a Saturday, the appointment was cancelled the morning of the appointment as the groomer got sick (which I completely understand). The grooming team quickly worked with me to reschedule the appointment to the following weekend at 11:00 am. We got to the appointment at exactly 11:00 to check in and were told our groomed would be there any minute, so we waited. 20 minutes and still no groomer or update. I asked the person working for an update, she seemed annoyed that I was asking for an update. She said our groomer was in an uber and stuck in traffic and wasn't sure when she'd be there. We cancelled our appointment. After reading other reviews, I see this is quite common with this location and we will not be rescheduling. read more

This location has been the worse lately. Not one who normally leaves reviews but today left me extremely frustrated. My dog had a grooming appointment at 9:45am today, which I had made the appointment weeks in advance I head over for my appointment to find a sign stating they the grooming is closed until the 20th, I got no notice or cancellation communication. I called the store and the associate who answered was not sympathetic that someone's times was wasted, he blamed the system for not letting me know in today's cancellation. So should I contact corporate and let them know ? Not to mention the last time I was at this location I was going to buy a large bag of dog food, it was priced incorrectly and the associate even confirm with the cashier that it was their mistake, yet still did not honor me the incorrect price and instead blamed it on customers miss placing the large dog food bad. I was absolutely blown away at how rude and mean the grooming staff were when I was there. To be clear, aside from today I haven't been back since they closed down randomly back in 2018 for all their groomers quitting at once (sadly), and I was told by the new groomer that they would no longer take walk-ins. The place hasn't been reliable since. I decided to give them a try again after the new place we go for grooming has been also unreliable over the past year. I was told on the phone that they'd be open until "around 4:30" and that I could come have my dogs nails trimmed then. Well, I dragged my 6 month old baby out of a nap early and rushed child and dog into the grooming salon at "around 4:30" and found 4 girls sitting around chatting, not grooming anything and giving me a dirty look, then I was told we only do this til 4. When I reiterated what I was told on the phone call, one girl said "I was there when she said 4:30," and another then claimed we need to clean up for half an hour so we don't work until 4:30, "we're not on the clock anymore!". I see no brooms, I see no mops, place smells as bad as I remember, doesn't look like clean o clock to me! I was then told we don't open on Wednesdays and Thursdays either. What's also wild is that their website claims the grooming department for this particular Petco is open until 7PM all the days of the week. Save yourself the trip here, and don't support their grooming department until they clean out their staff for some competent people who at least can pretend to be polite. read more

I will never be coming back to this location, and would recommend that others don't visit either. I had a grooming appointment this morning for 8:30am. Nobody was around, store phone went to voicemail, and was wondering if anyone would show up. At 8:38am, the Store Manager and an employee (the groomer) show up at the same exact time in separate cars. No apologies for being late -- they seem to just be enjoying their morning and seemed to have come from the same place. A bit inconsiderate, but I can get past it. I drop off my dog for the grooming appointment, and drive home. A full hour later (9:38am), I get a call from the groomer describing how they didn't have time to assess the grooming area before checking me in, and that the back room of the grooming area had wet concrete, lots of fumes, and was very dusty. And that I would have to drive back and pick up my dog, who had not been looked at in that entire hour. I show up to Petco again, and nobody is to be found in the grooming area. I click on a doorbell a couple of times, knock on the table pretty loudly -- nothing. I walk into the store -- nobody is there. So I look up Petco's phone number, redirect to grooming, which then makes an announcement to the entire store...and the groomer finally shows up. She apologizes, and says how they're having to cancel the rest of their grooming appointments for today. And said how she was starting to feel lightheaded from the fumes already. Meanwhile, she was nowhere even close to the grooming area. Yet she left my dog in the same back room area with the fumes and dust for an hour, unattended. This was the 2nd, yet final strike for me. Back in the fall, I set up a January 1st grooming appointment (day after New Years). Just 1.5 hours before the scheduled appointment, I get an email (no call or anything) that my appointment has been canceled. I followed up, and apparently the employee was "sick." read more

I called this store because of a mixup with our dog's vaccination paperwork not getting updated. Long story short, Vetco had the rabies vaccination as pending in our dog's record instead of received. Here's the catch, I didn't even have the services done at this store. They were done at at the Bridgepoint location. I called the Redwood City store in hopes to speak to a representative from Vetco to clear up the situation. Ryan, from the Redwood City store, took my initial call and listened to my situation. He took my information and followed up with a phone call. Ryan was able to speak to the vets on site and clear up the confusion, even with how swamped they are. Retail can be a tough business and many people are quick to leave negative feedback but few are willing to take the time to say a few good words. I want to thank Ryan for taking the time to help me out and also the Vetco team at Redwood City for updating our dog's records. This was such a stress reliever. I read some of the other reviews regarding service. I can't comment on other people's experiences but can only suggest that people practice patience with others. I shopped on line for a dog ramp and the website indicated that there were 6 available in Redwood City Petco. The stench I smelled as I entered the store was so unbearable that my wife had to return to our vehicle. I endured and expected to get my ramp and leave, however, there were NONE at the location in Redwood City. The clutter of the store was un-appealing to say the least. I seriously doubt that I'll return to Petco for my pet's needs. So I spent gas and time locating the store and it ended up being a complete waste of time. read more

I waited an hour to get vaccinations on my pitbull mix. When we were waiting, the lady was extremely rude and condescending when she asked me to wait behind the bird cage (she didn't say this to the person before me). When I reached them, it seems the lady already had a preconceived notion on pit bulls. Right away, she asked do we need a muzzle (in a very condescending voice). I said no, and she simply said then we can't vaccinate her here. You should go to a clinic, I don't want to get bitten. The woman that does the vaccines is so rude. I don't recommend for anyone to bring their animals here for vaccines. There is a huge line, and they are very rude. MORAL OF THE STORY: if you have a dog over 40 pounds, you're not welcome here! read more

This review is for the pet grooming station and the lead manager at the time working on March 15 or 16th 2023 around 11 am 2pm. My beloved Maya has been going here about 7-9 times. She is an Alaskan Malamute, not all washes where perfect people make mistakes. While I understand, the team was very understanding and made up for thier mistakes. The last time we had an appointment they forgot to cancel the day before and i drove from SF where I worked to make the appointment, i then met Mark who accommodated me the next day. The groomers never mentioned that i would not be able to book with them again due more than one mistakes in thier end. I had called saying i am unable to book an appointment earlier this year and they said they will call me back and never did. March 10th i had called for a last bath for Maya as we got notified it would be best to peacefully put her down, they said they will call back with a time slot as thier system were down. I never got a call and I when calling again that manager at the time was very unsympathetic to the situation and kept saying per company policy we dont make appointments blah blah. The manager at this location is such a rude person and a waste of space. He honestly shouldn't be in the position until he learns how to treat people and have reasoning. He forces people to sign up for vital care core and doesn't take no for an answer. Today I was treated very poorly and unprofessionally by the grooming stylist (3/22/21@8:10am). I was running late to my appointment. I called and left a message because nobody picked up. When I arrived I was scolded, called a liar because apparently the person who answers calls dis not get a call from me. I asked if I should then cancel the appointment. She told me with an attitude, "if you have a problem, you can cancel" she was so visibly upset, that I decided to leave without my dog's haircut afraid that she would take her anger out on my doggy. Took my dog to get groomed & had a lovely experience. Staff was very friendly and perfectly handled my dogs skittish behavior while grooming. (He has slight ptsd as a rescue and can be snappy when he feels threatened by certain touch/noise) Jazmin was very good at making him feel comfortable for his visit by taking the time to use scissors for a majority of the cut. Took my Dog for grooming on friday 8/21 asked for 2/3 inches off her coat cut down fur on paws and her behind. All they did was a trim. They called me at 3:25 that i can pick up puppie in :45 min witch i arrived early they where gone petco cashier had to go get puppy from the crates in the back then he comes out he was scared to grab her. He had me walk back there to get her nothing what i asked was done just a lil trim on Face and paws. Paid $75 just for that.. Very unhappy with service wish their old crew was still there. The grooming staff was extremely rude, and condescending. I recognize I was 17 mins late, as I tried to explain we had to stop because our 6 month old was extremely fussy and crying. First they said, no 30 mins late we don't take. The I point out actually 18 mins. Oh well after 15 mins we can refuse service.... So you are looking for a reason do deny service to get out early on a weekend. Dont change your excuse when you can't keep track of the actual time, that discredits you. That aside, if they would groom your dog when the appointment is I would understand, fact is last time, he was taken at the appointment time and was left in a small cage for app 2 hrs, before anything and took app 5 hrs from appointment time to pickup time. So you refuse service for 17 minutes? Funnily enough as I was chatting with the grooming service a poor dog was screaming in pain right in front of me. I am pretty late with this review, I bought this frog around June 13th from this location. Very tame, surprisingly he is not scared to be handled by me & is a very very good eater. When I came into the location I was very impressed with the selection of animals, they had this rare fantasy Pac-Man frog who I now call Bruce. And they even had a red eyed tree frog. The only downside was this frog cost me 49$ vs the traditional green Pac-Man was listed at 19.99 but was sold out. The managment Lakin, and staff, Olivia, Albert, and Hugo are amazing! We bought a Bearded Dragon and couldn't be more satisfied. It's apparent the staff took excellent care of her. She was so tame and loved to be handled by the time we got her, (which made it easier to bond). The staff has become family aswell now. Got there and was told that that the groomer called in sick a Week before and left me a voice mail on my phone on Oct 1. First of all I DONT HAVE VOICE MAIL. 2nd they could have txed me. This Petco is NOT at all clean. There is always pee on the floor that is never cleaned up as well as the poor fish are dying and being neglected (mold and mildew and fish are a lot of the times upside down and dead in the tank). I walked in a few times thinking things would be better but that has yet to happen. I don't even know how this store is allowed to have fish or any other kinds of animals in the store. On the plus side Dustin is amazing with the dogs in grooming as my dog is a rescue and doesn't like many people, he has somehow managed to gain his trust and Buster ALWAYS comes out looking amazing and happy. read more

This review is for Petco.com and their TERRIBLE call service customer service. I submitted an online order for my dog's food and it never arrived. When I called their terrible customer service after being on hold for 30 mins they said there was a delay and they would expedite the delivery. Five days later I still don't have a tracking number nor his food, which is sold out in all Petco stores within 50 miles. I called their customer service to get an update, which was provided stating that they would cancel the order and resend, and when I asked for some type of compensation for my troubles THEY HUNG UP ON ME. After wasting 45 mins of my time, this was the biggest waste of my time, enough for me to no longer shop at Petco. Definitely going with Chewy from now. Terrible terrible. read more

came here yesterday to get shots for my kitten from Vetco and the people checking the pets in were rude and more interested in a dog that had came in at the same time, but the lady that did the shots was very nice. After I went to get cat food and saw that they have a bunch of big wild rats running around the top of the shelves by the ceiling but the cat trees. I thought they were rats that escaped from their cages but nope the cashier said straight out that they're wild rats and just run around the store. read more

I placed an order online for curbside pick up but after placing the order we found out the next day that they actually didn't have the cat liter we ordered in stock. I wish I could give this PetCo a zero. The grooming area is filthy & the current staff is sullen & rude. They must hate their jobs, If so, they should work elsewhere. Today's experience was horrible (2nd time). The Mgr.shouted at me! It was totally different than in the past. Word to that unprofessional person: Insulting the customer is not good business...esp.in these difficult times. I was simply trying to schedule a follow-up visit because the last time I took my dog for grooming, there was a power outage & they had to close. No one had called to tell me or to ask me to pick up the dog. When I arrived, it was an odd scene, everyone was sitting on the floor in total silence/just staring when I arrived (they didn't get up or speak). But suddenly I was scolded for not coming earlier to pick up the dog. They said they could not groom her, but claimed that they had washed her -- but when I showed them that the dog's mouth still had her breakfast all over it, they became hostile. However, they decided not to charge me & told me to come back when they had their power back. I tipped the groomer. Today I called to re-schedule & they kept putting me off. When I called back as instructed, the Mgr. totally went off on me. She was angry about my comment weeks ago re: food still being on my dog's face. But she clearly forgot that I had tipped her. She accused me of being rude to her for some reason. At this store, the customer is always wrong. Beware. The staff & Mgr. need customer service training. Several customers have been mistreated here recently. There's no reason whatsoever to do business with them. Their rude "service" is unacceptable. Other posts on this site agree. The Regional Mgr's automatic reply says always says "we'll look into it" but they don't and it just gets worse. read more

We've taken our 3 years old Golden Retriever here twice, and we like that the price is cheaper than most other places. The location is convenient for us as well. With the above positives comes an out pour of many of the negatives that plague this location. Both times our golden was not trimmed in all areas, more of a spot around the body and tummy, than a full haircut. With a shortened hair length, it was easy to see by the lines following his back, that there was a very inexperienced person behind the trimmers. The haircut looks awful, and shows almost train track like lines moving all around his body. The ears were not trimmed, and the back of the arms seem to mix from trimmed to not trimmed areas. Some may think that maybe our dog is to blame for this bad groom, but our retriever is a well mannered smarty-pants. He knows all of the basic commands, and he listens very well. I would never recommend PetCo Grooming to any of my friends or family members. The quality of the cut just shows that you can't offer an inexpensive solution for grooming, without sacrificing the qualifications of a real groomer. read more

I brought the body back to exchange for something else. I was told that I had to also bring a water sample. WTF? Who in corporate made up this lame policy? Should I spit in a cup so that you can get a sample of my DNA as well? PETCO, you just lost a customer over $2.99. FYI: PetSmart is more customer friendly. This store is filthy, smelled so bad I had to leave before I got all the pictures I wanted to take to send with my complaint to corporate, and the animals are not housed in adequately sized or accessorized cages. They have some rescue cats in a ferret cage. (I wish I had gotten a photo of that). Dirt, dust, and cobwebs everywhere. The whole place wreaked of something so foul, I had to leave. Once I walked in and saw the state of things, I decided to NOT buy anything no matter how good their prices, but to take a few photos and report them instead. I complained about similar problems about 2 years ago. I see nothing was done. Shame on Petco for keeping their animals in such conditions, much less allowing this to be acceptable for their customers. I need to start by saying that this review isn't towards the staff at this store. They were amazing! Outside of this location today, there was a dog in distress. He was having complication due to heat stroke. Once the staff was made aware there was a dog in distress, they jumped into action and tried their best to comfort the dog. There is a Vet on staff at this location and the staff asked him to come attend to the dog. He refused, several employee asked him to come see the dog. After the 3rd or 4th time. He finally come out of the store, unfortunately the dog had passed away due to the heat stroke. Thankfully there was kind women who works as a veterinary technician, who happened to be there, administered CPR and tried her best to save the dogs life! The Veterinarian on staff on the other hand refused to intervene. I am writing this review to bring awareness to this tragic situation and the lack of help the vet offered. He took an oath to save animals and the fact that he refused to help this poor dog breaks my heart. My heart goes out to the family and I want to bring recognition to the rest of the staff that tried their best to save this dog. read more
