We went to this place to get our dog groomed (2 yr old Portugese water dog/poodle mix) and when we got there, our groomer wasn't even there yet- we were already expecting low service due to the reviews but really? We asked how long it would take and they said 3-4 hours! There is no way I am leaving my dog in a cage being practically tortured for that long! Do NOT recommend. Cool ferrets though. read more

Avoid this store, use Petsmart or any other store. This was only my second time here in the 4yrs I've lived here, and I will not go back. Pros- I was able to find the cat litter I wanted, but it took awhile due to the state of the store Cons- store is dark, dingy, cluttered, and not in good standing, no music - or if there was it was so low we couldn't hear it, so it was uncomfortable from the time we walked in until the time we left. -the 1-2 employees working there seemed miserable, why work there if you're so unhappy? Quit! -the store is massively cluttered and it's difficult to shop, it feels like a hoarding situation - yes I could find my cat litter but it took me way longer to navigate the aisles to even get to where I needed to go - the animals they sell, are sick. The birds are fluffed up and ill, the reptiles are in way too small of containers and there's too many pet container, not to mention they had stress marks sand faded coloring. - everyone was super quiet - employees barely communicated, the few customers in there were so quiet. It was super uncomfortable. -the fish selection is minimal and embarrassing. A few saltwater basics and freshwater basics. Nothing to really get excited about. The tanks were filthy too. Overall, there's nicer pet stores with a much happier vibe in them that have more to offer. This petco is not one of them. read more

the big lady at the front desk with a bun was so rude to me and my friends. My friend was trying to buy a fish but wasn't 18 so we were calling a parent so we could purchase the animal. She was giving short responses and big back energy. She said we were mocking her , but we were simply explaining to our parents the situation. I had my Great Pyrenees groomed here today. My husband specifically said not to shave her. Can you guess what they did? Yup. They shaved her and I'm not happy. Who shaves a Great Pyrenees? Let me start off by saying I have had my Golden groomed at either the Wareham or Plymouth Petco's since I got him 6 years ago. Some groomings were great some were at best fair. My last experience with them has left me wondering how they really treat the animals in their care if the way they treat the customers is example of their humanity. After the Plymouth Store changed my appointments twice, the last time the night before a 10 AM appointment the following morning, I was advised by the Wareham store manager, to call and speak to the Plymouth store manager, Joe, and maybe he could find an appointment. When I did this, the person who answered the phone was rude, and not helpful at all and of course Joe was not in even though the appointment had been cancelled because of maintenance. I asked the clerk to find an appointment... and he said " I am busy I have customers" I told him I was a customer too and said he was busy and here is where it gets bad ...He said he was putting me on hold but the jerk forgot to hit the hold button and said to whoever was standing there "THIS GUY IS A FRIGGIN IDIOT" This is dangerous behavior.... if I was standing there by his tone and that comment I think he would have taken a swing at me.... Petco should be more responsible for their employees. I called their customer service department and spoke to a very nice woman who was in LasVegas NV and she was all apologies.. and she assured me someone would get back to me on Monday or Tuesday morning at the latest... I gave them to today today, Wednesday....and then I called back and spoke with another customer service rep who looked up the case and she said it was noted the manager and regional manager had spoken to me and it was all set... I was getting a free grooming... This was a documented lie by management and further explains why a clerk would talk to a client like he had and not be worried about it... I asked the service rep why would I be calling back if I had spoken to someone.... she had no answer but assured me that I would hear from someone by the end of the day today... I heard from no one. First and foremost I would never trust my dog with them and would not accept a free grooming, nor should you... If the management of the company lies and covers up for aggressive behavior of its employees, I can only wonder what happens behind the mirrors in the grooming section or in the back room with the pets in their care... As far as I am concerned this is over and done... but I would strongly recommend for you to stay away from the Plymouth MA Petco for your own safety and that of your pet... the are aggressive and liars. read more

Not even sure if one star is worthy. Last month, went online to schedule a groom for my dog at the Plymouth location. Online scheduling very easy to navigate. Started receiving text messages and email regarding the upcoming appointment. Each message reminded me to have my vaccination records. Called the store a week before to confirm. Spoke to the groom dept..all set. Because my dog is extremely nervous around unknown people and surroundings, per my vet, gave him a half perscription of his anti-anxiety medication just so that he and the groomer would have a somewhat good experience. Went to check in for my dogs groom appointment and in discussion the question came up regarding the anti-anxiety medication. Immediately she stopped the check in and said that corp policy that they cannot take a dog if they have taken medication before arriving. NO WHERE ON THE WEBSITE, ON THE TEXT MESSAGE REMINDERS, AND WHEN I CALLED, DID IT STATE THIS POLICY. State the policy and my fault. And all for a pleasant experience for my dog and the groomer. Top it off, my wife called the Manager to inquire about the policy....he could care less that we were upset. Petco...State your policy on this. read more

Amanda in the grooming department was wonderful she took great care of our shiba (as a breed they are known to be very difficult to groom) he was very anxious when we got there and was really happy and relaxed when I arrived. Amanda was patient and so very kind with him and he looks great! I would definitely recommend going to her for your dog's grooming needs. read more

I'm giving this store 2 stars mainly based on one manager there her name is Caitlin. Every time I ever come in she has a stick in her butt and is super rude not only to her other fellow employees and is very rude to people looking at animals . I went There looking at reptiles and a lovely girl with a name starting with N was able to helping me .I asked if this girl would let me hold a reptile so I could make sure the animal looked health and so I could check gender . The girl helping me said let me ask the manager (Caitlin) she comes over and says no if ur not gonna buy right now I'm not taking anything out . Then tells the girl helping me to go back to registers and stop helping me . Every time I go in there this manager gives me dirty looks and refuses to help people won't let anyone take animals out to inspect them when they are looking to buy them .I had money in hand ready to buy the tortoise but because I wasn't gonna say yes to buying it without first inspecting it's health and gender and make sure it's weight was ok . I was denied purchasing it but this wasn't the first time Caitlin deny me help with animals I also tried getting a crested gecko and frog there but Caitlin yet again deny me access to pick out a crested gecko and make sure it was healthy. But yet I've seen Caitlin take out ferrets and play with them when the registers have a huge line with only one person at them ..beside that the enclosure are well maintained but like all petcos they have a issued with overcrowding with ball pythons . Great sales and healthy looking fish in Mansfield store. Plymouth has a wonderful person in aquatics named frank. He has been a great source of information. Wareham has Patty, Glen and Casey who are all wonderful. They are great will all animals. I like that they always let you know before you buy about adoption animals. I adopted the best hamster and tinfoil barb. read more

Took my spaniel in for an overall shave down to maybe a quarter inch. I picked up my dog with chunks of unshaven fur, patches of choppy, shaven fur, and razor burn on his hips. My dog was an absolute mess, even after I asked for some touch ups. If I wanted such a hack job, I would have saved the $70 and shaved my dog myself. read more

Grooming review -- don't go. I made an appt. in advanced and dropped my 6 pound yorkie off for a hypoallergenic shampoo, trim of coat and nails. I told very rude check in personnel I had to be done by two hours for another appt. When I returned, she was gone and another came out and I informed her that I had to pick up my yorkie -- she said he was not ready and to come back in another hour. I was unable to wait, so I asked to speak to the manager of grooming - she came out in a huff and I explained the dilemma. The grooming manager said "well we always say four hours" I commented for a six pound dog, it certainly does not take more than an hour and he has been there for two -- surely does not take that long for the minimal treatment. I asked for store manager who said same, and said I did not have to pay if I wanted to take dog. Usually, I would have given a hefty tip, but left the store with given them nothing. They did get as far as a shampoo -- but it was not hypoallergenic as he was scratching intensively and had to rebath when we got home!!!!!! Will never go back to this store again and will be sending to all my consumer advocates and their corporate office to inform them of this outrageous treatment -- when we make appts. they should follow through with one pet -- clearly -- several other dogs where there at the same time -- so they want to make the money -- but not be mindful to the customers or dogs needs. Not professional!!!!! Its time that business take accountability and as consumers -- we have a right to good service and will pay well for it. read more

I can't wholeheartedly give this establishment a 1 star, as their service Was fantastic. The store has recently changed management, and most of the employees are now different. This is a big problem because the employees do Not know hot to care for their reptiles, Chameleons to be specific. I was lucky enough to get close with the old crew, and helped them fix their mistakes with their chameleons, they would even ask for my advice often outside of work as well. Chameleons are Very fragile and are considered very special exotic reptiles. I have watched a female Panther chameleon in this same petco for Months, it is suffering from mild MBD and has been in and out of respiratory infections through the months, while asking an outrageous $300 for her. Within these past few days they redid the chameleon enclosures, and that's when it all went wrong. They added absolutely no horizontal vines for them to bask, and have absolutely No access to higher levels of the terrarium. These animals are Arboreal, meaning they live high up in trees. The chameleons are subjected to ground walking, which will destroy them slowly but surely. It may not sound like a big deal, but I have been breeding chameleons for years, and have done Extensive research about these animals and all the conditions they are kept in here are Horribly wrong. There was 3 Veiled chameleons Stuck to the top of the top enclosure with absolutely no branches to climb down from. The only way down is to fall. This is extremely unacceptable as they don't have the proper Temps to basket at. They also do not absorb heat through their bellies, but through their backs, so being upside down is doing nothing but messing with their digestive system, not to mention their Main source of food is Meal worms that aren't even dusted in any calcium. Meal worms contain a high amount of Chitin, and can cause major impaction issues, Especially if it's the only food they eat. Their Little Dripper is also disgusting, as it is quite literally green from the outside, very visible. They don't seem to sanitize anything and when problems are brought up they say "I'll bring it up to my manager" but nothing ever changes. I've always frowned upon the care petco gives to their reptiles, and I've seen plenty to Not want to go back. I will no longer be doing business with Petco again, and will be breeding my insects from here on out. The only reason I would go to this establishment is because of the convenience, this is no longer the case. If this doesn't get fixed you will not only lose your chameleons due to such a simple thing as the enclosure being wrong, but also the business that Me, my family, and friends bring to you, which is Multiple visits a week. read more

Should have read the reviews first. After waiting 3 weeks for our first Petco appointment I dropped off my little dog off for a wash and cut at 1:45. Since there was only one dog in the grooming room I assumed she was up next. I became a little concerned when the groomer put a slip knot leash around her neck and removed her harness. As she tried to lead her away my dog started to pull trying to get to me. Groomer didn't seem to notice and made no effort to pick her up. I left, thinking she would be ok once I was out of her sight. 30 minutes later I received a call saying that they couldn't get my dog out of the crate to bathe her. She was "aggressive and biting". I immediately went to get the dog. The groomer put her hand out for the harness and said shed get my dog. But didn't she just call me because she couldn't get my dog out? !!!I told her I didn't want my dog traumatized any further so now manager got involved. I told him I would do my future talking on Yelp and I wanted to just go get my dog. After the obligatory "safety concerns" speech I was finally allowed to rescue my pet. She was in a small back room, huddled in the back of a cage surrounded by other larger dogs and clearly terrified. Had I known she would end up in a cage I would have offered to wait with her in the car. Apparently, appointment times mean nothing at the Plymouth Petco. And now, after waiting 3 weeks, my dog is still not groomed. read more

love the employees at the Plymouth Petco. They are very engaging and the woman at the register are very down to earth. However, the last grooming experience I had was terrible. I asked the groomer to shave my dog as short as he could go. When I picked him up, he was clawing me violently to get him out of there. She shaved him so short that he had cuts and shave burns ... Obviously she wasn't qualified to make any judgement calls because no dog should of been shaved liked that. I feel horrible because I asked her to cut him short- but I shouldn't of had to specify not to harm my poor dog. read more

I brought my dog here for grooming. She was shaking when I picked her up. I tried it again and she shook when I brought her in and when I picked her up. She hated it, then I tried petsmart and same thing. She hated petsmart even more. I found a place in Pembroke that is fantastic. When I bring her to Dog's Den she doesn't shake and the price is better!! She loves going...she even gets excited and she is always so happy there, she isn't put in a cage to dry! read more

We take our Newfoundland to the grooming salon. This group always does a great job with her, but our recent visit was the best visit so far. Our Newfoundland was suffering with a full body skin irritation, a yeast infection in her ears, and sores all over her body. We had explained to them we had been taking her to the vet, she had been on rounds of antibiotics and fish oils and nothing was working. Audrey, the grooming manager, detailed a step by step plan of what she was going to do to our Newfie. She gave her a tea tree oil shampoo bath, dried her, de-matted her fur, and cleaned her ears. She also gave us some advise on grain free, holistic food to feed her. She said some breeds have a harder time digesting grain diets. She said that it was worth a try to switch her food. After her bath we noticed a huge difference in her skin condition. Five days after switching her food, her skin condition has cleared up, her ears have stopped seeping wax, and her sores are all drying up. I can't thank this group of groomers enough, they really know their stuff. read more

Be aware!! Check expiration dates on any and all food purchased at this location. My husband purchased a bag of large breed name brand dog food. It was clearanced. Found out why it was on clearance 4 days later when I opened the bag from the wrong end. It was 2.5 months PAST it's "best used by" date. Guess they didn't want to lose $$ for a product not selling and just decided to clearance it in the hopes no one would catch it. Clearance price was still close to $50. Gave courtesy call to the store manager - attitude was could care less. read more

Audrey is fantastic and very loving with our dog! She listens to exactly what he ask her to do with the monthly grooming on our pup! Our only complaint is they are short staff - I witnessed a groomer leave a dog unattended on a table while she answered the phone and greeted clients. I have been taken my puppy to Petco puppy play time on Saturdays this winter. She's been getting used to playing with other puppies and adjusting to others. The trainers been great . Today Sat. March 18, 2017 management has changed group play time to two puppy's in a fenced in are for an half hour. What a SHIT SHOW !!!! Leave it to a useless manager to screw up a good thing. Frank rules! he should own the place for his helping us after over a week of setup of a 55 gallon tank for oscars and no casualties! It was all with Frank's expert guidance to my kids for how to go about it. We call our tank "SIC-lids" with a variety of friendy cichlids. We didn't just buy fish- Frank taught us about how to keep them healthy, what they will need and what he knows is best for products.
