We like stopping in for cat food or litter and to visit with the animals. We are always greeted by friendly staff who goes above and beyond. If our litter is out of stock they even check the back or on there phones. We noticed a positive turnaround over the past year at this location, animals are well taken care of and seem to get lots of love now. We'd prefer no animals at pet-stores but these critters here are luckier then others. This location is always clean and plays great music. Keep it up. read more

When I brought my dog to a grooming appointment and informed staff that I had given the product as directed, I was told my dog could not be groomed because it was considered a sedative. Staff had to call a manager for guidance, and when I asked to speak with the manager directly, he declined. My concern is not that Petco has safety policies, but that Petco sells and promotes a calming product while apparently prohibiting grooming after its use, without clearly informing customers of that restriction. This is a decent Petco, kind of small but generally has most items. They are out of some items quite frequently, so I order online and get it delivered more often than not. The customer service is not great here either, so I'm never necessarily excited to go to this Petco location. I really only visit if I'm in pinch and need something urgent, as it's 2 mins from my house. read more

I went in to ask about fish and plants for my new pond. Daphne was the one who helped me, and she was amazing! Her advice about which fish to choose (and how to take care of them) was very good. When I asked about plants, she advised me on where I could find a local place to get water lilies and even looked up directions for me! I'm so pleased with the whole experience, and Daphne was super nice and knew her stuff. She deserves a gold star and some cookies, at the very least! I'll be going there again for sure. :) read more

As a fish tank/pond owner for most of my life I am posting this because the situation I found myself in this morning would have been comical if it didn't end up being such a time waste over two .39 feeder fish. Went in to buy crickets for our bearded dragon (purchased at this store in 2020) and minnows for the pond because the local pet store was closed. My kids wanted goldfish so we got two. (Shoutout to Marcel, he was very nice helping us). Woke up the next morning to dead goldfish. No big deal, thought I'd pop by in the morning and replace them as they generally are easy fish. This was just after 9:30am. The first associate didn't seem to know how to return the fish (yes, brought them in the same bag back with water) she after awhile called another associate who let me know the manager had to do it but was busy with animal checks. So they took my number. Would not let me buy two feeder fish because I actually brought the dead ones back. This took about 15/20 minutes. Had I simply not bothered to bring in the dead fish this whole thing would have been done in 10 minutes. Finally just before 5:45 pm I received a call from the manager. She did not seem interested in fixing anything and kept repeating the store policy, talking over me and generally seemed disinterested and a bit rude. I understand the policy. All I wanted was to replace two goldfish, a very simple task in ANY other store. Now I need to bring in water, wait for testing or whatever to be allowed to buy two feeder fish. Long story shorter, customer service on the floor is always lacking, if you can find someone. As someone that has shopped here off and on since it opened I will avoid it from now on. There's a locally owned shop that is much more helpful and friendly. read more

Ive been shopping here on and off for my lizard I've had for 2.5 years and my dog I've had for 8.5 years and my previous fish tanks, Today is the first time to ever experience the worst customer service. the cashier olivia's body language, attitude and overall management of the register was off putting. She stood there with her arms crossed the whole time, then her apologizing to the person in front of us for us interrupting their conversation just because we stood in line . While a longer line was forming , she ignored us for a few minutes to continue her chatting . Then on to her smacking her gum constantly the whole transaction. Then to the way she handed my finance the receipt in annoyance over even asking for one. By that point, he only wanted it for the sake of needing her name for a complaint. That's how aweful of an experience he had. Everyone that worked in the store from the moment I walked in was rude. It appeared that a couple of them were probably stoned out of their mind. Angry...rude...and childish to everyone that was in the store. Myself and several other customers were in awe at the complete disrespect. With the delta variant spiking and the CDC actually reversing the outdated guidance referenced in this sign that I saw while walking in to shop, it's wrong to encourage your customers to enter without masks. I went into the store on Feb 10th in the later afternoon to buy dog food and noticed that one of the employees was noticeably high on drugs. She was showing symptoms typically found in someone with a heroine substance abuse. I think her name was Paulette or something like that. Idk how a company can keep someone who shows obvious signs of drug abuse AT WORK, in a retail setting, employed. Her erratic behavior between the aisles, her obsessive actions with the broom she was holding, the way her eyes looked and the distorted look on her face caused by years of drug addiction. I did not feel comfortable shopping at this store with her present. I quickly grabbed my stuff and left. Management and corporate needs to do something I do not recommend this location . read more

Rufus is my pride and joy. His first grooming visit was exciting, until I notice open wounds on his testicles. I immediately called PetCo, and the manager was very understanding (didn't catch her name). She stated that a Vet visit would be comped & grooming fees returned. I appreciate this more than anything. I would highly recommend that Rufus' groomer STOP wearing pointed acrylic nails, and take note of any skin issues previous to grooming for the pet owner's sanity. The groomers are busy, I get that. But they NEED better communication. I never got a call when his appointment ended, I had to return THREE hours later... he's a 7lb puppy. The room where they keep the pups is mirrored, I assume for privacy? But for what?? I can't imagine why they left him in the back for so long, when his haircut couldn't have taken longer than an hour & half. I have included a picture, so please be CAUTIOUS when taking your pet here. I had a problem with the groomer Aimee at the Arroyo Grande, Ca location a number of times. She would cancel appointments and change groomer I chose. Speaking to the mgr a few months ago and she said she would correct the problem with this groomer. I brought my 9 yr old Shih Tzu in for an express grooming and when I came back to check on him, (1 hr) he was no where in site, but I found the groomer Aimee busy chatting on the phone! She had left my dog in the back in a cage.she hadn't even begun to brush him. When she brought him out and started to cut him she was incredibly ROUGH on him and I immediately took him away from this place. Do not ever bring your dog to be groomed at this location (and possibly others). My beautiful dog was literally being tortured and I caught the groomer in the act. Best advice, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE and keep your dogs safe elsewhere. read more

Great grooming! My vet was closed to non-emergency care, but my pup still needed a trim. What should I do short of clipping myself (been there, traumatized everyone)? Petco was open! The groomer was a young man who got me in right away and was the dog whisperer! He whispered my frenetic pup's nervousness away and she came out with freshly buffed nails. I drove almost 30 minutes to the Arroyo Grande location since it is the closest one to me. When I got there, I was met with less than mediocre customer service from the staff. I was looking for something specific, but the staff had no clue what I was talking about and told me to just order it off of Amazon. I shopped around a little since I was already there and found some cute dog collars that were marked with orange clearance tags. When the employee went to ring in the collar it did not ring up as the marked clearance price. He asked me if I wanted to pay the full price instead to which I did not since the collars were falsely advertised. I let him know that there was a full bin of them marked down to that price to which he replied back, "cool, that'll give me something to do today." The last time I visited this location could very well have been my last time there. The store manager, Robert is AWESOME and really friendly. Mike is another awesome, super friendly and helpful employee. A couple of the cashiers too are really nice and helpful. But the older blonde woman that works there and generally has a negative disposition, is rude, unknowledgeable and unhelpful makes a trip there not worth it. She argued IN FRONT OF ME with a cashier about who was going to ring me up for crickets...I planned to buy more items originally but things got awkward and I really needed crickets.... I would have left if CD's and Tropics hadn't closed and Petsmart had crickets that day but, my animals needed to eat. I stood there watching a manager argue about not wanting to do her job before running to hide in the office while a line built up. The RARE occasion you ever see that office door closed (probably could be some kind of security violation). I've read other reviews about this person and you'd think the store would get the hint that this employee isn't helping the store look good... If you need anything, CD's, Tropics and Petsmart are probably better choices. read more

3/6/21 I was at Petco to purchase a tank and after ~5-7 minutes we were approached by an employee asking, "Do you need a mask?" I said, no I didn't because I have a medical exemption. The other adult stated they would take a mask though. The employee said nothing, handed it to him and walked away. We were immediately approached by a second employee angrily stating in front of my 6 year old child, I was hostile to her associate and told to leave. The only person who was hostile was Petco's employee who chose to argue and created a scene by doing so because I declined a mask. The employee made conflicting statements to us about what she was even told happened during the first interaction because we asked, who said that? We hadn't spoken to anyone and we were in an aisle alone. The employee asked, "is this essential shopping," as well as "I don't work for you." This is terrible behavior by your employees as well as discrimination. 3/11/21 I received a phone call from their corporate office stating the employee lied by saying a racial slur was used. Nobody used a racial slur and it's sad to use that as an excuse for employees terrible behavior. A complaint has been sent to The US Department of Justice. Also going to add, that it makes zero sense why the district manager would respond to this welcoming us back in-store if what the employee stated happened were in fact true. read more

Back in April ( lost my pics to post) we brought our two dogs to get haircuts and nail trims. First, this was ONLY place that told how to correctly cut our Border Collie/ Australian Shepherd mix and they did an amazing job. We also had them turn our Schnoodle into a Schnauzer which was fun.... even though we now prefer her a little scruffy. This employee told me that she would not assist us because the mask my kids are wearing and they need to go outside(huh my kids are 5 and 7 they staying right next to me).. I see so many other kids wearing the same mask all the time including people with asthma like my daughter. The worse part was that my daughter attempted to ask her something and literally she reacted so dramatic like if we were threatening her. Like if we had her hostage. She kept stepping back and her arms were up like we were going to hurt her....My kids looked at me all Confused and scared . Please note we were 6 feet apart and covered... I respect the mouth covering and all that , I'm all for it but treating us the way she did and then stating she would not assist us and we need to leave !!!!! Lee in Grooming Dept. is wonderful with my pug and as a nervous "pug Mom" allayed all my fears. Very kind and thorough grooming session. He even noticed that my Vet "forgot" to give "Mestball" his Rabies booster and @ 6 mos overdue & a very scary/potentially dangerous" situation all around-was averted by Lee's thoroughness. I've seen dogs having to be pit down if rabies suspected and you couldn't prove vaccines were current. Thank you Lee. Look forward to our visit tomm.
