This is mainly because I was not going to spend a ton of money on fancy cars so that they could bang them up. I've learned that most kids treat their first cars like a bumper car. Anyway- that being said- Mr. Wade literally kept both cars operable and in good shape throughout both of their teen driving years. I purchased well-used inexpensive vehicles and just made sure that we stayed in top of issues and repairs as needed. I can't tell you how many times Mr. Wade saved me money by making suggestions and being honest with me when he could have easily taken advantage of my lack of knowledge and made an easy buck. I found him to be honest, hard working, and diligent in making sure my girls were safe on the road. Highly recommend.

Also, a few of her co-workers highly regarded him. $2100 and 1 1/2 months later the vehicle was finally fixed. One of the weeks he was gone for vacation and hasn't taken one in a long time so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Well, after the vehicle was fixed, I noticed 4 important bolts missing from the intake and one that was stripped out. I also noticed the water pump was still leaking and not sealed properly. When I brought it back and refused to pay anything to fix it, the owner admitted to me that "the boy didn't know what he was doing and told him not to strip it out" If that's the case, then he shouldn't have been touching the vehicle period and shouldn't be working there. After spending this much money, I would expect a better quality job and that the owner himself would look over everything before sending it out. He apologized, and almost didn't want to fix it at first and told me "those bolts really don't do do anything." If that's the case, then they shouldn't have been there in the first place. He did fix the mistake, but I'll never take another vehicle there ever again and would suggest for anyone else not to either.

He told me he would install a genuine Kia catalytic converter and explained that my O2 sensors most likely did not need to be replaced. He said they would be cleaned and inspected because, in his experience, they usually were not the cause of the problem. I even verified with the Kia dealership that Petal Muffler purchased parts from them, which gave me confidence in moving forward. I paid half of the cost in cash up front and the remaining balance when the work was completed. Less than 300 miles later, my check engine light came back on with the exact same code that had prompted the repair. When the Kia dealership inspected my vehicle, they found that one of the O2 sensors had been cross-threaded during installation and was not seated properly, preventing it from sealing correctly. They also informed me that the catalytic converter installed on my vehicle was an aftermarket converter rather than a genuine Kia converter, despite my understanding and agreement that a Kia converter would be installed. The Kia service manager contacted Richard to ask what type of catalytic converter had been used. Richard said he would have to research it and call him back, but he never did. When I called Richard myself and explained what Kia had found, he acknowledged that the cross-threading "can happen" and told me to bring the vehicle back so they could fix it. Because I work 12-hour shifts and live in Hattiesburg, scheduling wasn't easy. I was first told they couldn't fit me in because of championship baseball games involving his son. We eventually agreed on a Monday morning appointment at 9:00 a.m. I arrived early and waited. At 9:00 the shop was still closed. I called the business twice with no answer. During one call, the ringing stopped, I said hello several times, and the call disconnected. A few minutes later, Richard called and apologized, saying they had been at baseball championships all weekend and that he would be there in five minutes. He didn't arrive until approximately 9:24 a.m. When he arrived, he walked past me without acknowledging me and went directly to speak with a technician, which arrived at 9:15 and opened up the lobby. The signage beside the front door states business hours 8a-4:30p, M-F. I understand that mistakes can happen in any repair shop. What I cannot overlook is what I experienced as poor communication, lack of follow-through, and not receiving the part I had agreed to pay for. I agreed to pay for a genuine Kia catalytic converter, but according to Kia's inspection and running the serial number on the converter, an aftermarket converter was installed instead. Combined with the improper installation of the O2 sensor, the return of the check engine light within 300 miles, the missed follow-up, and the unprofessional handling of my appointment, this was a very disappointing experience. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision before choosing Petal Muffler.
