When our beloved baby breathed her last inside one of the clinic's private rooms, the pain was so sharp and heavy -- it was heartbreaking. We wondered what to do next with her lifeless remains on the table. We stayed in the room and tried contacting pet afterlife services. Fortunately, we were able to find one. As we exited the room on our way to the parking lot, carrying our beloved pet's body, we passed by the reception area where the VIP's frontline personnel were seated. They just looked blankly at us. No condolences or any word of sympathy -- no nothing, as if they were completely oblivious to our profound sadness and despair. We wondered why they could be so unsympathetic and so indifferent. Shouldn't the clinic's staff have at least said: Sir/Ma'am, condolences po?" This was at least we expected of them. But they just stared blankly without saying anything. We were so disappointed. We were recommended to go here by a friend when our dogs had major problems. The first time we went there our Dachshund, Bugoy, was vomiting and in pain. They were the only hospital that was open for 24hours. So, we immediately went there. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant the whole time. You could feel how concerned they were with the well-being of my dog. To make a long story short, Bugoy was diagnosed with kidney failure, stage 4 :'( It was a very tough time for us. But, our doctor and the staff were there, 24/7. When the day came for Bugoy to go, they were with us too. The second time, which was a more critical situation, was when Snowball had to have gall bladder taken out. She was operated on last year and it was scary because we thought we were going to lose her :( Once her condition got worse, Dr. Nielsen Donato, their Chief Surgeon, attended to her. He was honest with me and said that her surgery would not be easy but that I had nothing to worry about. After a successful surgery, Snowball is now super healthy and "youthful" again! :) It is not easy to find an Animal Hospital/Clinic in Manila who you can give your full trust to in terms of caring for your pets. Seriously, they have my FULL trust! For professional service and the best animal care, please bring your furbabies here!

They were informed that he had lost a lot of weight already. They took a stool sample and gave him antibiotics that didn't help. Brought him in again after he finished the prescribed meds. Took another stool sample and prescribed stronger medication. 7 days later, with 1 remaining dose left, we found our Bluie dead!! I tried reaching the vet since Jan. 29, the day he died, but she was always out. Never even replied to my messages. I don't know why Blue was not given the right diagnostic tests to find out what was really going on inside him. A blood test would have given us more information to be able to treat properly. Even a physical check on the stomach or perhaps a temperature check. None!! I relied on the expertise of the vet! That's why we brought our sick dog to them in the first place. Just a stool check. Worse is that when I needed to talk to the vet, Dr Siday is her name, for questions as to what could have caused his death and to give closure, she never returned my calls. I'm so heartbroken!! It's been 4 days of calling Vets in Practice in Katipunan everyday but to no avail. They didn't want to give me her direct contact number and she could not be reached in all the numbers they gave me. I wish they could be a little more empathetic. Very bad practice, to say the least. I hope and pray that I find justice for Blue and that they get what they deserve! I still have a lot of questions unanswered.

The first animal encounter / restaurant concept that I've tried is Barkin' Blends - country's first dog café. The place was great. Though small, it is well-maintained with a separate area for diners who just want to enjoy their selection of coffee and frappes. They also have some rice meals, pastas and sandwiches. Then there's the dog zone. With an entrance fee of P180, it already comes with a drink. The dog zone is a nicely decorated area with some witty dog-related pictures like The Beagles (a pun on the Beatles), A Pug's Life and more. It has several tables and benches inside so you can keep your things and your drinks away from the doggies. But inside, you'll see that most people get really comfortable and are on the floor so they can pet the many wonderful breeds inside. You can interact with their dog residents: Psyche the Beagle, Finn, Marley and Robin the playful Golden Retrievers, Martha the Irish Setter, Smile the Pug, Fiona the Chinese Sharpei, Ella the Chiweenie, Piolo the Labrador Retriever, Skye the Siberian Husky, Bonnie and Clyde the Toy Poodles, Booster, Yoda and Vader the Lhasa Apsos. All the dogs are vaccinated and are well-behaved, so if you follow their rules about handling, you're relatively safe. Most of them are still very young puppies, so it is important to handle them with care. Since they have been in the café for a few months now, they're pretty much used to human interaction and are really very sweet and friendly. I love how clean this place is and how responsible the owners are for the well-being of the dogs. There are quiet caged areas so the dogs can rest when they get a little too excited or too playful (like the doggie version of a time out). This is a great place for dog-lovers and even for kids (my two-year-old really appreciated the visit and had a lovely time petting the different dogs that she would otherwise only see on TV). Worth a second, even a third visit for that relaxing, therapeutic experience.

You have to pay 180 pesos to enter the dog zone. It's inclusive of one free drink, but you can't drink it while inside the dog zone. A single person is only allowed to stay in the dog zone for two hours. If you don't want to play with the puppies, you can always enjoy Barkin' Blends's refreshing beverages, rice meals, and sandwiches. Barkin' Blends makes sure that all puppies are well-taken care of. They have a shifting schedule to avoid any of them to get too exhausted.

I tried three places already and there was always something wrong after their grooming. When I heard that The Dog Park offered home services, I decided to try them out and I've been loyal to them ever since. I like how they do the grooming in your own home... in my case, they do it in the garage. But I've also asked how they do it in other areas and they said that if there's no garage or garden, they can also do it in a balcony (for condos). Since it's in your own house, you're assured that there wont be any infestation of fleas or ticks from other dogs. They bring everything with them (table, tools and shampoos) and only use your water. I don't mind this at all since they save me on transportation costs anyway. I have been satisfied with their hair cuts and grooming, especially for my Shelties who always look so pretty after they get groomed. I also love how it's so easy to contact them and schedule with them. The Dog Park is actually more than a home grooming service. They are actually mainly a lodging service and a day care for pets. We first tried them out with our newest puppy to see how he liked it there. Let's just say, he loves it so much that when he is in the car and we're nearing the area, he excitedly scratches the door to get out right away. The place is not so huge but big enough for the dogs to run around in. There are also separated areas for smaller dogs and dogs that need more time to adjust. When we bring our dog there, we just leave his food and they take care of the rest. We're so happy that we have a place where we can leave our dogs if/when we go on travel trips. He loves it there so much and enjoys the company of the resident Golden Retriever and resident Husky :)

He may be in doggy heaven now, but he will always be in my heart. Months after I lost him, I was given the opportunity to adopt another canine, this time, a Shih Tzu puppy. After my landlady agreed that I could keep him in tmy apartment here in Manila (Julio lived in our family home in Cavite), I agreed. Now I'm mommy to Yuan, who has his own hashtag on Facebook and Instagram: #YuanTamad. The search for a veterinary clinic that was easily accessible from our place soon followed. Thankfully, my friend who owns a Dachshund discovered Bloomers Petshop and Clinic at Harrison Plaza. Since then, we have brought Yuan there for his complete vaccinations and deworming. He also gets groomed there. Should you intend to go to the clinic, ask to be dropped off near the Bingo Place at Harrison Plaza as pets are not allowed inside the mall. Look for Doc Lubreen Bueno who is very sweet with our dogs and who patiently explains each procedure and answers questions. You only need to pay a Php 200 one-time consultation fee on your first visit. Succeeding check-ups are already covered. Grooming for our one-year-old Shih Tzu is at Php 450.

For a lot of reasons, I wasn't satisfied and would never go back. It could have been 3 or 2 stars. But, something happened that just made me write this review... When we got home, I noticed that the left eye of my pup was swelling. So I sent a message to (respectfully) ask if something happened. When they asked me to call and talk to the groomer, he asked me if I was sure that it was swelling. I said yes, that's why we were asking. Then here's what annoyed me... He rudely said "wala nangyari. kaya namin pinapacheck kanina mam diba?" (Nothing happened. That's why we made you check earlier, right?) FYI, they did not do that. I just picked up my pup from the cage, paid and left. I noticed on the ride home that he kept scratching his face (which was usual). When I noticed it was swelling, I opted to go to a vet. So, I told him that I just wanted to know if something happened so I know what I would tell the vet. That's it. He didn't have to be rude and he didn't have to lie about me checking my pup before we left. End point: unprofessional and rude. Proceed with caution. Trust your gut. Update: During check-up, the balls were also reddish. According to the vet, either the razor used was too hot or the skin of my pup was irritated with how they trimmed it.

Their dog food selection, both wet and dry, are of variety too. They carry brands such as Holistic, Royal Canin, Go!, Hill's Science Diet and Pedigree. They sell by the sack and per kilo. Occasionally, you can find dogs being groomed in one of their rooms from which you watch from the outside. The big dogs are particularly cute to see 'cause they are rebels and they give the groomers a challenge. Haha! Staff's accommodating too. If the wait is taking too long at the cash register, they apologize. If I need assistance, they make it of their way to help. They carry the heavy items to the car even if I don't ask. Tip: They charge a 25php parking fee when you enter Hobbies of Asia. The establishment is near dampa so it's expected. Just tell them you're just passing by to buy dog food - they'll let you right in.

If you asked me to go to the Pet Village in Tiendesitas a month ago, I would've said no in a heartbeat. But I went recently and I actually enjoyed going there. Apart from the pungent canine odor, the place felt like doggy day spa. Get your pet groomed at the posh pet salons there or buy them costumes and treats available at several stores. There were also some stalls selling puppies and cats, and the look of those poor little fellas waiting to find a new home tugged at my heart strings. Not that I'm going to adopt them or anything. My little girl really enjoyed that part of Tiendesitas. She wanted to stay there longer, but I was afraid it would trigger our allergies so we had to go. I promised her we'd go back there with our puppy, if I can manage the long ride from the south to Pasig with two kids and a dog.
