When I first met Lauren, I was in front of the Flagler Humane Society, planning to surrender my dog Johnny back to the shelter. When Johnny saw Lauren, he was ecstatic, recognizing her from her working with him in the shelter before he was adopted out the first time. She laughed when he jumped up on her and wanted to know his name. I said, "Johnny," but she said, "No, his other name." Well, it was Boo. It wasn't but an instant until I was in tears again because I had become quite attached to Johnny during the 5 months I had him. He was so strong, had pulled the leash out of my hand and dragged me to the ground multiple times, and showed aggression to my family and their friends and their animals. That morning I had just met with a trainer who told me he could rehabilitate Johnny from his aggressive behavior but it would cost me $3500. This after having spent over $1500 already in training and vet bills. I was at my wits end. Lauren was so glad to see Johnny Boo Boo, and she saw so much potential in him that, on the spot, she asked me not to return him to the shelter. She told me she was a trainer and promised me that she would help me learn to manage him, to work with him and me as long as necessary to allow me to keep him and not charge me one dime. I agreed to try. She came the next day for our first session. In spite of Johnny being so excited to see her, she was able to help me make great strides with him. I was so amazed that she not only was able to get him to perform the commands she gave, but was able to teach me how to get him to perform those commands myself. I had most of the equipment I needed but didn't know how to use it. He had gotten out of a prong collar earlier this week. She told me it was too loose and fitted it to his neck. Then she gave me a safety collar to use with it to make sure he didn't get loose. I had bought a shock collar, but didn't know how to operate it. She familiarized herself with the model then proceeded to teach me how to use it in a humane and effective way to help bring Johnny under my authority. We are set to meet again tomorrow, and I am so excited. I have been practicing 3 commands with Johnny and anxious to make even more progress. It is so obvious in working with Lauren in just one session that she loves the animals and owners she works with and loves her work. Lauren is AMAZING! We rescued our senior pup back in January. She had a few issues--the worst being she wouldn't stop barking at strangers and trying to nip them. Other than that, she was and still is the biggest love. Lauren not only got her to stop that behavior, but also got her to accomplish some basic and not so basic commands: stay, place, come, eyes. I'm so glad we connected with Lauren -- she was able to coach us through some rough patches and give us sound, doable training advice that helped tremendously with our 2 year old loving, but rambunctious Bouvier des Flandres. After evaluating our "baby", she quickly saw areas that needed improvement and showed us, by example, how to get the results we wanted. Specifically -- our dog would pull while on our walks (I was even afraid he would pull me off my feet if we came upon a squirrel!) -- now he's walking perfectly by my side, attention on me. He gets complimented by strangers all the time on "what a good boy he is"! Another example -- we haven't been able to break him of his bad habit of chasing our cat (poor kitty spends most of her day hiding from him!) -- but after just one session with Lauren, we've already seen a marked improvement in his "cattitude"! Best choice we made. We recently acquired a 2.5 year old rescue. After several weeks, his true behavior appeared - excessive barking, aggression, and occasional potty in our bed. Lauren's classes are well run no matter how many dogs are attending. And, the diversity of the group can be daunting, but she is able to address each issue with each dog at all times.
