Help For Homeless Pets

What a difference a year makes…read more I first stopped in to Help for Homeless Pets during one of their "open" events. While the people working here were fine, the facility itself was an "oh my gawd get me out of here so I can breathe" place. I understand space limitations, and volunteer staffing, but the place smelled horrible. Pet shelters are bad enough, leaving me with a strong urge to take the animals home or set them free; but dealing with that smell . . .uh .... no. just no. Heartbreak all around. Fast forward to a little over a year later. Again, the volunteers were absolutely incredible. They deserve all the kudos they can be given. After taking a deep breath before I walked in, I first noticed the normal (e.g. not gag-reflex inducing) odor of a pet shelter. It was like they installed a new air filtration system and along with it, improved the lighting. I had a hard time believing it was the same place. HHP is not a large facility. It has fairly large cages, wire on all sides, except for the ones along the wall. The dogs appear to be in individual cages, mostly, unless they're small dogs and then might be in twos; and the cats, about 4 or 5 or so are in the larger cages as you first walk in, but some, depending on temperament, are solo. There are also cages out in front of the building and in a back room. I still hated to leave all those animals behind, but wow -- I'm impressed with how well HHP has improved. I've not adopted any animals, so I cannot speak to potential health issues of any of them as noted by other reviewers, but the staff does an incredible job keeping up with the resources they have.

I walked in this place today and it was bad the smell was awful the cages are dirty the days have…read morepoop all over this place is gross it should be shut down I feel bad for the animals.

Still love Rae, however not a fan of the business practices of Groomingdales. My hubby was going…read moreto be passing by them on the way home and called me to find out if my dog is ready to go. Told him yes but how do I pay them and he said just do it over the phone. Well folks, NEVER AGAIN!!!! They charged me an extra fee for paying over the phone because the card isn't in the business. I used a debit card and they charged 3%, we all know that charge is for credit cards and then another fee for the card not being there. I suppose if they had it on file they'd still charge you for the card not being there.

Groomingdales and its owner are the absolute worst grooming business I've ever dealt with. I told…read morethem on the phone, very clearly, that my cat has hip issues and matting. They said that if he couldn't handle the service, they would stop and adjust the price. They quoted me $110 for a full-service groom and said there could potentially be an extra $25 charge for the matting. That's it. No mention of a "starting price." No sliding scale. No hidden clauses. Just a straightforward quote and a potential upcharge. When they called me after I dropped him off, they said he "couldn't handle the service." Funny how they still managed to shave him into an absolute butcher job--bad enough that they admitted over the phone, when I called to see if he was ready, that they "don't normally like to send them out the door looking like that." According to their own website, a full-service groom includes nail clipping, ear cleaning and hair pulling (if needed), and a bath. My cat didn't get a full service. He didn't even get a bath. Yet somehow, they claim they trimmed his back nails--while his pads are still covered in fur and his legs weren't even touched. The rude, smug owner then had the audacity to lie and claim the $110 was a starting price. Absolute bullshit. When I told her to take off the bath fee, she threatened to call the cops if I didn't pay. That's right--she threatened me instead of fixing her mistake. This company stole from me, period. They overcharged me for a service they didn't complete, and the total for the abuse came out to $130. I would strongly advise anyone reading this: take your pet anywhere else. These people are thieves, scammers, and arrogant. And since you asked me to include it--yes, I did "use foul language" while there. Fuck yes, I am pissed that I was stolen from by this shitty business and the self-righteous fraud. (You mean like that, Stacey?) Every time someone treats you with the same contempt you showed me, remember this interaction and know it's karma--because you earned every bit of it. No wonder the building reeks. And it's not the animals. It's the stench of the rotting soul that runs the place.
