Our puppy broke off a nail while on the lake and I'm happy that the doc and staff at the emergency center were able to patch him up. It is a small office but they got us in pretty quick and Scout was in their operating room shortly after. I called ahead of time so was able to answer their admittance questions so when we got there sped up the check in process. The doctor saw us and explained the process of what they were going to do. The nurse brought in the estimate before they started any work which is nice so you don't have to wonder. They are reasonably priced. We were able to just wait for our pup and the whole procedure took about an hour. I really hope we never have to go back for anything but if we need to, we will be back here. Highly recommend them! Oh and for a personal touch they made a custom sail boat bandage for our little guy - how thoughtful was that?! read more

The staff is untrained to explain the situation to you. They wrote a report on us nothing but lies. I have asked for a second copy of the x rays and scans but the owner has refused. Legally he must give us the report. The first copy I didn't read and it explired in 30 days. If my wife had not been in shock and myself our dog titan would still be alive. I used one f word and the owner refused to ever see us again. No calls do not walk in. The owner has no business owning a business as such if he cannot be professional and train his doctors to relate to the owners of animals. We originally made a mistake by going there. I took my dog to Pet Emergency Center in Missoula on a Sunday afternoon. She was admitted to the clinic by Earl Ellingson because of her breathing and her blood glucose level was high. Unfortunately, she was monitored by Jeremy Kalisch Sunday and Monday. He sent her home Monday evening without a BG monitor or anything else. Kalisch informed me when I went to pick her up that she was not eating other than some chicken but that "she threw that up a couple of hours later with some black stuff." He also stated, "I don't know what the "black stuff" was. I brought Sophie home at 6:00 PM. She immediately threw up her water and phlegm. I called the clinic to let them know that she threw up and there was blood in her water and in her vomit...they informed me to give her 1/2 dose of insulin. She continued to not eat and continued to struggle breathing. I called the clinic again and they said to watch her for the night. I called the clinic first thing the next morning to let them know that Sophie was not eating and struggling to get enough air again they said to keep an eye on her. I called the Pet Emergency clinic at approximately 1:30 PM and let the Clinic know that I was bringing Sophie back in. I arrived at the clinic and the receptionist (Stacy) told me that Kalisch didn't need to see her because there wasn't anything he could do to diagnosis her further and that I needed to go to Bozeman to get a CT scan of her head. I pushed back and stated I did not need a new diagnosis and what Sophie needed was to breathe easier and to check her blood glucose levels. She finally showed me to a room. Kalisch came into the room with a pamphlet about ending her life and stated, "There is nothing I can do without a CT scan." He never came over by Sophie, he didn't explain anything, and he never once said that there was a place one block north that I could take her to for this CT scan, that I guess was a cure for not getting enough oxygen and curing diabetes!? I kept asking him to listen to her or look at her that she was struggling, and he continued to tell me that it was "All in her head" and without a Ct scan from Bridger Clinic in Bozeman, or one in Great Falls he wasn't going to do anything. I became angry and emotional, and it was at that point he told me that I would have to get on the floor next to him and put his stethoscope in my ears and listen to Sophie (I guess this was to prove she needed a CT scan). He never took her temperature, he didn't provide oxygen, he didn't test her blood glucose levels. It wasn't until I left and called a veterinarian clinic that there was another Emergency Clinic just 1 block North of Pet Emergency with a CT scan I immediately went there, and they brought Sophie and I back into an exam room. The Vet Tech immediately took Sophie back to see the doctor and immediately started her on Oxygen and checked her blood glucose and it was over 569. The doctor spent a significant amount of time with her thoroughly checking her and what I didn't know until the moment the doctor walked into the waiting room was that the clinic (1 block North of PEC has a Cat Scan). Not once was I referred to Sentinel Emergency to get a CT scan? The doctor let me know that Sophie wasn't even a candidate for a CT scan because she was not stable enough to go under anesthesia and survive. He informed me that it would be at least 2 days to stabilize her breathing and blood glucose levels along with making sure she would be able to eat without vomiting. I went back to see her in the exam room with her little oxygen mask on, her IV for fluids, 3 Technicians holding and loving on her. She saw me come in and wiggled her little nub tail and wanted to come home. I knew she needed to stay and stabilized, what I didn't know was that it. would be the last time we saw each other. The veterinarian was very knowledgeable and explained everything she felt would help my very sick cat, patiently and in detail. When I was able to see my vet on Monday she agreed with my assessment and suggested I go back to them again if need be which I definitely will do. read more

This past summer, my family and I were at the start of our vacation.. a road trip from California to Montana. I had just happened to notice my dog had blood in his urine. He's been getting more anxious when traveling and I thought possibly stress related bladder infection or UTI. Being on the road and the uncertainty of drive time and lack of walk-in appointments available, we had come across Pet Emergency Center. I was able to get him seen as soon as we arrived and while getting the urine sample, the vet noticed something off with his bladder. Turned out that he had 10 bladder stones and one was close to his urethra. It would have been risky waiting 2 weeks until we got back home in California to have him go in for surgery, so he stayed to have surgery that night. I was an absolute mess as I was worried about him being put under as he was recently diagnosed with early congestive heart failure and not to mention, the family we were staying with was about an hour and a half away. Anyways, I requested a call as soon as he was out of surgery, even if it was the middle of the night. Sure enough, around 3am, I got a call that all was well and that we should be able to pick him up later that evening. I was so incredibly thankful. We picked him up along with his new prescription diet and meds. I was worried we were going to run out of his new food before we got home, so I was able to go back and stock up without any issues. The entire time, everyone of the staff members was super kind and helpful. You could tell they really cared. I obviously never wanted any of this to happen, but I am beyond thankful for the care, time and sincerity that Pet Emergency Center showed my family. read more

Yesterday I took my cat in with his bone sticking out of his leg and instead of preparing his leg to be fixed and giving it stitches or anything useful, they decided that we would be coming in for the next week getting bandages each day for $250 each day on top of the cost of everything else that we paid here so we paid well over $1000, so far and all we've received is a couple bandages for his leg. Instead of using the proper equipment inside of their center they decided that they would have us pay an extra $200 a day to get him to anesthesia just put a bandage on his back leg!!!!!! The staff are so very fake and have no consideration for the parent! if you wanna waste your time and not get your pet the care that he needs for way more money than you should be spending then go here read more

I left due to the incompetence I was experiencing. And because vet had given us our anti inflammatory meds and said we were done. Before I left I had to ask vet assistant to see the 500$ ex rays because the vet never showed, or went over them w me... This is by far the best Emergency Pet Hospital that I've been to in this area, maybe anywhere! Right from the gal at the front desk that checked us in, to the gal that helped me get my dog from the car into the clinic, to the Vet Tech, and finally, the amazing Dr. Ellingsworth, they were all top notch. Dr. Ellingsworth has a special way with his patients - my dog had a couple of BAD experiences with other Vet Clinics and was terrified to even go into a clinic. With him, she was just fine (maybe he is a dog "whisperer"?). What impressed me most, he did not try to upsell and pad the bill like the other clinics do. He did not push any Pharmaceuticals, but rather had my dog's best interest at heart. I believe the folks at this clinic truly care about their patients and their customers. We took our dog in for urinary issues and assumed she would be treated for urinary issues. The doctor gave my partner the run around instead and suggested we pay for three different tests, including an xray. He refused to give us any other options except proceeding on to the next test when the prior test showed no results. After our bill was racked up to $600, he said he just didn't catch it in the very first test. I guess he didn't catch our dog's urinary issues because he didn't "see" them. So we ended up having to pay out of pocket for the doctor having poor eyesight. When I called to complain, the receptionist kept interrupting me every time I spoke. Then she would contradict herself. She would explain that she didn't know what the doctor said because she wasn't in the room, but then when it suited her argument she would turn around and say, "the doctor didn't say that." They also said our dog's glucose levels were high because she was stressed. They didn't care about putting her through all that stress for an hour and a half. If they did care, they would have given us the test that they knew would tell us for sure what was with our dog. But instead, they put her through tests that they knew she didn't need all while knowing she was distressed. She cried and whimpered and panted the entire hour and a half so that they could make money. Those medical workers are meant to be there for customers in times of crisis, they are meant to help us and our animals when we need it. Instead, they took advantage of us by requiring a bunch of tests that they knew we didn't need and they were extremely rude and unprofessional. We are never taking our animals there again without doing a lot of our own research first. I am so disappointed and appauled, I don't know how they sleep at night. read more

Dr. Ellingson and his staff saved our dogs life. We are so lucky to have this service in Missoula . It was in March on a Friday beginning of Covid , and our Labrador started acting sick about 9 pm. We brought him in at 2a.m. Having to drop him off without being able to personally meet Dr. Ellingson because of covid protocol. He maintained contact with us via phone. Hunter was diagnosed within 15 minutes with a splenic tumor. He was operated on immediately . Dr . Ellingson stayed in touch with us and was very comforting . Hunters recovery went very well . Pet emergency Canter has always been there for me and my dogs. A veterinarian at Pruyn's diagnosed my Lab with kidney disease and sent me home with very expensive kibble. A few days later, Daisy was shaking uncontrollably. It was a weekend, of course, so we went to PEC. Turned out to be a bladder infection. My best friend is the dean of the veterinarian at a major university and his students often intern at PEC because of its excellence in treating trauma. I highly recommend PEC when a bobcat takes a bite out of your pet's leg or when your usual veterinarian is closed on weekends or nights and your pet's symptoms are terrifying you. read more

First impressions are not everything. I'm currently writing this review while my guinea pig may die. No other choice hut to wait until his actual vet is available ( currently it is 6:07 am monday november 11 2019) yesterday my guinea ended up getting a surgery the amputate his leg. Everything went great actually I was very very impressed and was thinking about sending a holiday gift for the great efforts in saving my sons guinea pig. HA!!! do not even 24 hours later his intestines our hanging out of his private are! Panicked I called them to see what to do getting ready so I can bring him in and they tell me they are closing? Was told it was a 24 hour pet emergency.. they close at 8 and another company comes in does business there. Ok fine well I asked if I could take him there anyway so he is in a safer place were they can just keep an eye on him until the guinea pig doctor comes in. To that they say oh well she is out of town for 2 weeks. What!? I just left your office and was told to call if I needed anything. Sadly our piggie maxie is still very small and idk if he will make it till 7:30 but I'm heart broken and disgusted that thats what $1529.00 get us. read more

Our dog was hit by a car the other evening. I knew she was hurting, and with my vet being out of town, we were referred up to this clinic. Even with COVID keeping us outside the clinic they were very kind. The vet called every single step of the process and then came out to our car to show us the x-rays and discuss options. There really wasn't any hope for our dog, and they went out of their way to help us have a private goodbye. They were all very kind throughout the entire procedure. X-rays were pretty expensive, but it is an after hours clinic and you should expect that going in. read more

Not even 24 hours after I took my dog in for extreme pain, because the previous vet didn't put in the notes to offer a muscle relaxer if the pain medication didn't work, and receptionist flat out said "tonight's vet can't talk to you until you pay the $105 exam fee again" with zero compassion in her voice. They saved my kitty's life but be prepared to pay way over a thousand dollars. UTI blockage is one of the most costly procedures but other emergencies might not cost as much. I don't know if they turn away services if you don't have the deposit on you (which was six hundred dollars up front for our emergency). On the other hand, Missoula is fortunate to have an after hours pet ER. Not all cities our size has one. I was not expecting the sticker shock but we decided to get the best pet insurance afterwards to cover both our pets if we have another pet emergency. My kitties are getting very old. (Duh, why didn't I know Progressive and ASPCA had affiliated pet insurance programs?!! I thought my kitties were too old to get insurance but the one I chose has no age discrimination.) Beyond the finances, the hardworking vet was so professional, compassionate and educational. She didn't mince words or give us false hope. I thought to myself, my cat is getting better ER care than I ever did!! She showed us lab work and explained everything in detail more so then any doctor ever gave me in any human ER!! She explained how our pet might die but they will work hard to give him a chance. Their intensive care worked miracles and he lived because of them and God. read more

I've waited a few months to make sure I was calm enough to write this review. I woke up on a Saturday morning to my cat throwing up blood. I immediately took him in to what I assumed was the only vet open on a Saturday, since my own vet was closed. The room was covered in animal hair when we were taken back. My daughter and I had to clean up what we could before letting my cat out of his kennel. Now I realize this is an emergency place, they are available when others are not. I won't argue that point. What bothered me was the cost for said services. The vet we saw said she believed he had a blockage and wanted keep my cat over the weekend, with a starting cost of $1000 with the possibility of it reaching $3000 by weekends end. Yes, $1000 just to look at my cat. I told the assistant when she came in with the paperwork that they were insane to charge that amount to monitor an animal. She looked at me and said "well, you are paying for emergency services at an emergency clinic." As if that makes the high cost acceptable. This was around 9 am. Not a midnight call, not a late afternoon call, but a morning call. I didn't have $900 so I asked for an optional shot that would help him pass whatever might be the problem. $185 for the visit and shot. While waiting I called every other vet until I found one open. I explained the problem and she said it would be pretty pricey to watch him overnight and I asked how much. She said around $350. $350 for the exact same thing this place wanted $1000 or more to charge. So I immediately left. Three days later and he was released from the new place and how much does it cost me... $245 with a bag of food because it was discovered he has a mega colon and requires special food from now on. Several enemas, 2 nights, several x-rays and food, they charge 1/4 what this emergency place wants upfront. What. The. Hell. Fast forward a few days and my cats hair starts falling out. I take him back and it turns out he has ringworm. The vet congratulates me on being the first one in a few weeks to come in with it. I suspect this emergency clinic is where my cat got it. Three months later, two visits, ointment, and two rounds of pills and I'm STILL dealing with ringworm. My new vet has clean rooms, the emergency place was COVERED in pet hair. I'm furious at this place. I tell anyone and everyone to avoid this place if they can. It's disgusting, and the charges are insane. Go anywhere, ANYWHERE but here. If I could sue for my money and for them to cover the cost of my pets ringworm cost I would. I hate this place. A vet shouldn't go into the business to make money, but this place clearly puts monetary value on an animals life. They should be ashamed. read more

Sincere thanks to the vets (Drs. Ann and Becky), and staff at the Pet Emergency Center for the expert medical and compassionate care they extended to my very sick kitty, and me, over the weekend. My cat developed acute renal failure very early Saturday morning and we were able to very quickly check in and get the necessary care. I appreciated how gentle and kind everyone was to my cat throughout her extremely difficult illness. I also appreciated being kept up to date by the vets. I absolutely loved this place! The facility was very clean and sterile. The staff is professional, kind, supportive, and patient. Our dog was vomiting and refusing to eat during our cross country trip. We found this place by chance, while passing through Missoula. They got me in right away, with hardly any wait time at all. They found that she had a large intestinal blockage and needed emergency surgery. They got it done promptly, and helped me pick another veterinary practice for her to recover, as they close at 8 a.m. I fully believe that we would have lost her if we hadn't brought her into this place! I would not recommend this place! Took dog in at 9 pm to have a cheat grass removed from ear and was quoted 95.00 dollars over phone plus any complications could be more. I had been there before with same issue and it was a little over a hundred dollars. This time they checked her and came in with a quote for close to 400.00 dollars. I refused and left there after driving 45 minutes to get there and paying 95.00 for them to listen to heart rate and check her temperature only! Be very careful it is a major rip off as far as I am concerned! They said I was paying for emergency services but this was over the top!! I have had this procedure done many times with our dog and it has ranged from 75.00 to 200.00 depending on where we have takin her. read more
