She looked like those abandoned dogs on YouTube who were only skin and bones. She was eating constantly but losing more weight almost daily. She was drinking gallons of water and could never get enough. She was blind the last 6 months. It was heartbreaking. We loved her so much and no matter what we tried, she just kept losing the battles in a war that couldn't be won. In the weeks before, I made 3 different calls to vets but my sweet husband wasn't ready to let her go. They walked every day and knew every neighbor in our area. On Feb. 27, he made an appointment at Lebanon Road Animal Hospital to come in the next day. We had never been there before. It was a rough day. The kindness of the vet and staff meant the world to us. We were welcomed as soon as we opened the door. Such respect and understanding is hard to find lately. Yesterday we received a card signed with notes from each one of them. We miss our Dolly so much, who had been wandering around a farm when she was found 5 years ago. She was the sweetest baby. I keep looking for her until I remember she is gone. If you want a Vet who comes in and shakes your hand and looks you in the eye on the hardest day of your life. A vet tech who was sitting on the floor with her after she was gone. An understanding Woman at the desk. Then you have found your vet. We are still looking for our Dolly in everything we do. She was underfoot all the time. Begging for anything she thought we were going to eat because she knew she would get a bite.
