This restaurant is on a residential street, but just one block away from the popular Corso Emmanuel Vittorrio II. But, you won't see tourists here. We found the restaurant online, with rave reviews for its pizza from locals. We went to try them at lunch, but to our disappointment learned that pizza is only served in the evenings (we found the same thing in other places, oddly enough). Alas, just based on reputation alone we would recommend this for Lipari's best pizza. Still, the staff assured us that with the many other items available on the menu, we would be very happy. And, they were so right. We started off with a freshly-made pasta dish, along with a rice salad. To the eyes, these two dishes looked plain and ordinary. But, to our palettes (our taste buds), we melted away in delight. Oh my gosh, how good it was. Great flavors. Fresh ingredients. And smiles on our faces. We then asked for them to make us some panini sandwiches, simply with ham (proscuitto Cotta), cheese and pomodero (tomato). The paninis came on a flat-type, fresh bread...and were among the best we have had. In the end, for lunch or for dinner, this is the place to check out. You will dine with locals, all of whom are friendly and welcoming. The decor is very simple, but nice.

Oscar's is a small, family-run pasticceria, complete with Mama and children in tow. We were handed a cannoli, made at that moment for us, and the love affair with this bakery started. They have a whole array of marzipan treats, many shaped into other food. We had a good laugh examining what appeared to be a ham and cheese sandwich, but which was actually made entirely of marzipan. This bakery is THE place to try. Small. Cute. And, extremely delicious. The cookies are to die for, and to be washed down with a freshly-pressed Italian espresso.

We first came in looking for a panini and the woman who owns Oscar asked her friend to walk us down the street to her favorite sandwich shop which was also fantastic. We then returned to Oscar for dessert and were amazed by how delicious everything was. Do not miss this wonderful place and definitely get the freshly made pistachio cannoli!

Given the romantic…read moreassociations (*) and history (**) of Ristorante da Filipino, I made a beeline for this place as soon as I docked at the harbour and I wasn't disappointed. Think old world charm, an army of waistcoats waiters, starched white table linen and a Bougainvillea- lined pergola on a hilltop overlooking the sea. Now imagine the freshest seafood prepared according to Eolian recipes, but with a modern twist. My first taste of figs rolled in swordfish and garnished with lime sent my palate straight to heaven. The cannelloni of mupa (fish) with pears and ginger sauce kept me there. The octopus meat in the orange salad was silky smooth as it glided past my grateful palate. The Filipino cassata was laced with a generous dose of God-given Malvasia wine - just enough to keep me smiling as I rolled down the hill to all the other diners on via Vittoria Emmanuel. (* Ingrid Bergman and Monet dined here; ** the restaurant was opened by the owner's father in 1910). Just an additional note to say that this restaurant is not for those looking for cheap, cheerful and casual. It's for serious foodies and those wanting to impress. However, the prices here are no different to those of the (very overpriced) restaurants elsewhere on the island. So, if it's quality you are after, pick this place! Finally, please don't be put off by the formality of the service. The staff are all extremely lovely and if you do return, I promise that, as with me, they are likely to remember you and treat you even better second time around!!

I was impressed by the presentation of food and range of traditional Sicilian delicacies and their prices seemed quite reasonable compared to other places. The lady that ran the store was ever so helpful finding several items I had on my shopping list that I had to purchase and even suggesting several items that were a bit more affordable after my initial total was 3 times as much as I planned to spend.

They had amazing bread and luckily enough they had butter... I really struggle to enjoy bread without some butter. I ended up ordering dessert which was a lovely chocolate mousse with ice cream centre. I have to say the staff are super friendly and they are very accommodating for their guests and make sure that everything is perfect.
