There's something fishy about the 2011 reviewer's 1-star rating, saying they paid for new brakes…read moreand didn't receive them - and said an "auto body shop" verified it. And "suspect" tires that wore out in 6,000 miles, doesn't make a lot of sense either. I went there after hearing positive things said about them from local folk, as well as reading very positive reviews on Google. Alray's business is primarily tires. I'd purchased a full set of Kumho's from Discount Tire, and two of them wore out in less than 12,000 miles. I was very well treated by Eddie, who runs the shop along with one of his brothers. He had a pair delivered the next day, and even though they were really busy I wasn't there a half an hour and my tires were changed and balanced, at a price much better than I'd have gotten at Discount Tire in Hickory. Alray's isn't a fancy place, and I'm sure prices are better there because you're not paying for all the "fluff" that comes with a national chain, like TV's everywhere, high pressure warranty sales and employees in super nice uniforms. I'd recommend Alray's to any friend, and they'll always be my go-to tire place, or alignments if needed. While I was there, several people came in for lawnmower and trailer tire repairs, and were only charged about $5. So it's obvious they're not gougers at all. For inspections I go to American Auto on Blowing Rock Blvd, run by Dale Triplett, because all he does are inspections; he's a one man operation, and is as personable and friendly as can be. I'd happily give Alray's 5-stars if they'd do what a lot of car places do, where they throw in a paper mat and thin plastic cover on the seat. If I drove a nice new car, I'd have insisted on that being provided by Alray's. I mean, even Grease Monkey does those things for an oil change! Since those simple things are readily available and might cost a retail place all of 10¢, I don't know why every auto place doesn't use them.
