Hilary transformed my Upper East Side apartment! She doesn't just decorate--she listens, is patient with my own ideas and she makes sure I am comfortable with the design. She custom-designed a beautiful console and area rug for my entry foyer that gave character to the space after all these years. She reimagined my coffee table with a new finish, and created a stunning, custom-colored rug for my bedroom. She even found the most creative way to use two African textiles and a vintage mink stole--turning them into truly special pieces in my living room. I have been meaning to write this for some time now. This review is very much about the service we received, and not Hilary herself, who is a very lovely person. Unfortunately, we chose the less expensive "Buy My Eye" design service, and we felt as though we wasted quite a bit of money on it. This was during 2021 and Hilary had no insight into what retailers we could shop from to avoid supply chain nightmares. She would bill us for our time, including the time she spent waiting for her iPad to charge before she could begin using it. Then we had to wait for various websites to load, as she never arrived with a bunch of links and images ready. We received almost no useful advice from her. The only rug that we bought due to Hilary's advice has been shedding for a year and we are finally replacing it because we're scared that our 1 year old is inhaling the fibers from it. Truly a nightmare. My sense is that Hilary's full services are likely terrific - especially when she is local - but for the version we paid for, we truly regretted the experience. Hilary was a tremendous help when we moved into our new condo. We had very little time to make a lot of design choices - and her help was invaluable. I had a truly wonderful experience using Perianth's Hilary Unger as my designer. I started knowing I wanted my living room to be furnished and designed around a beautiful silk carpet I bought in India, and Hilary helped me to create a magnificent room, mixing and matching patterns and colors to the pallette of the carpet. Walls were painted different colors , with an accent wall framing my garden window, and built in cabinets, two couches and two chairs were created to complete the room. I still get gasps when people see it. Also working with Hilary was extremely easy and she accomodated herself to my very busy schedule. I can't recommend her enough. read more

Hilary came to our appointment with lots of resources, including catalogs, swatches, paint chips. We had a great experience With Buy My Eye. We asked Hilary to come in just to look at two rooms that weren't really working for us, and by the time she left we'd already rearranged one and knew what we wanted to do with the other. Hilary actually listens. How rare is that? She remembers what we like and don't like, and she's not shy about saying, "I think it'll work better this way, but if you want to do it the other way, that's Ok." She's now helped us paint or re-furnish four rooms, and there isn't a thing that I've sent back or wanted to un-do. read more

We just bought a new house and needed to figure out paint colors for the rooms, furniture, and decor. But with three small children and two busy careers, we just didn't have the time to shop around and figure what we need. So I called Hilary and she spent a day with me looking at our new house in New Jersey. Hilary instantly understood what kind of an atmosphere I wanted for our house and made really great recommendations about paint colors and furniture. I feel like I got so much out of our meeting and from the summary she sent me by email. The paint colors she recommended totally worked for our home and we received so many compliments from friends, neighbors, and even the painters! The furniture recommendations were also right on target. However, my husband, who did not attend the session with Hilary did not like the sofa she recommended. So we went shopping around for a different sofa in various stores and looked at tons of catalogs. After a month of looking around, we ended up buying the exact sofa Hilary recommended because we came to the conclusion that it was the best fit for our living room space in terms of style and dimension! read more

I am a big fan and hope to work with Hilary again in the future. She came to our home in NJ and helped me redesign my home office space. After getting a sense for the "feel" and functionality I wanted, she sketched out the space, suggested paint colors, provided websites for furniture options, and remained mindful of our budget.
