So I've been coming to Oak for about 2 years now officially in May I believe. I don't know why it's…read moretaken me this long to write a review but here it is... This is not your typical gym. And I know that may be a cliche but it isn't. This is a community gym. The atmosphere is kind and supportive no matter who you are or your fitness level. For reference I am a 30 year old woman and have friends here that are twice my age. I've never felt pressured, bullied or creeped out once. Now let's talk about the staff... Brent. Brent, is the manager and has been since I joined. He has built a wonderful team and as far as I can tell a pretty positive work environment for everyone. He always remembers my name despite the fact that I've hardly ever worked with him directly. Wendy. Wendy is exceptional with members and our community. She always waves and stops to talk to me when she passes. And I'm pretty sure she knows everyone at this point :) I've made friends with many of the trainers here and so will you. Let's see who we've got... Zoe. Zoe is someone I've known for two years now and have actually become close friends with. She is without a doubt the nicest woman I've ever met. She knows a lot about running and cardio, so if you've got the thrill for a race she is your girl! Dan. Dan is a character and who many people turn to for advice about basic movement mechanics and health. Oh and he is pretty much athletic in everything. Just ask what he does in his free time. Haha Chris. Chris is a rockstar. He does classes in the early mornings along with a few other trainers and is consistently a happy guy. He will always try to make you laugh...don't tell Dan I said that. Stacy. I don't know Stacy very well but I know she works hard and is an early bird that loves to run. She has always been very sweet and kind towards everyone. I can't list all the people that make this place great but these are definitely the people that have influenced me the most. For the first year at Oak I worked out almost every day and every day I was greeted with the same kindness and support. Without that I'm not sure I would have stuck out with my journey. I can now do 5 pull ups in a row, deadlift over 220lbs and hip thrust over 300lbs. These are just a few of the goals I've set and reached for myself and I'm so glad I was able to accomplish them in such a place as Oak. If you have toured the place you already now how clean it is and that there are countless showers and lockers to choose from. Equipment is kept clean and ready to use. I hardly see a broken piece of equipment. And if I have it doesn't stay broken for long. Not all gyms are great so if you thought this place doesn't have enough to offer I think I can gladly state that it does. So if you are thinking about joining please don't hesitate. It's worth it. Courtney

Roxanne and her cleaning crew are the best for this facility. This ensures that everything runs smoothly and that there are no unexpected interruptions. The overall atmosphere is one of a kind and everyone who works here treats everyone with respect, making it a place where you can feel comfortable and motivated to achieve your fitness goals!!

I'm updating my review to add back a star to 4 total. Some improvements I've noticed lately:…read more - More frequent communication on social media and elsewhere digitally to members about happenings at the gym - Equipment repairs and even replacements of things like rope attachments for cables are happening quickly - Cleanliness overall is really good; I almost always see someone cleaning something when I'm there - Staff has been very friendly and helpful I also recently got a second gym membership at Planet Fitness* and have tried out several of their locations in northern Virginia since. And it's very clear what the difference between a ~$20 membership and a ~$60 membership get you. Compared to the 'chain gyms,' TFE is: - Way cleaner and better maintained, especially the locker room - Has a sauna, always a big bonus - Has additional strength training equipment, 1:1 cables, and weights that go up higher for those of us who are more experienced *Three big reasons I sprung for the outside membership: 1) TFE hours are rough sometimes to fit into my schedule especially the weekend hours. 24/7 gym is a necessity for me sometimes, even if I have to settle for a slightly less intense facility. 2) The day passes are so expensive. I imagine I can't be the only person who has a significant other or family member who doesn't live in the area but visits frequently enough to want to come to the gym. My girlfriend lives in Arlington so it'd be crazy for her to pay this gym's membership price to workout on the weekends with me, but it's actually cheaper for me to get a black card at PF than to buy even a couple day passes at TFE. I would recommend to TFE to think up its own version of a black card to allow for unlimited guests, perhaps throw in some massages at the salon inside the facility, etc. 3) It's month-to-month so there's no risk involved to try it. I understand why non-chains can't do this though as they likely rely on the people who sign up and then never come to keep crowds down but stay operational. Overall, TFE is great and you seem to get what you pay for compared to cheaper chain gym options, but I would love better weekend hours and more flexibility in bringing occasional guests as part of the membership.

Neutral, Informational Review…read more I want to share my experience so future members know what to expect. The gym facilities themselves are fine, but I found the membership process and information provided at sign-up to be unclear. I did my best to get all of my questions answered upon signing up and trying to cancel. I'm still working on that right now. There is an annual $88 amenities fee, and memberships here are contract-based. There isn't a month-to-month option. If you want an unlimited guest pass, that comes at an additional cost. The gym also uses a tier system that affects which locations you can access. I wasn't made aware of these details until I tried to cancel right now. When I tried to ask questions or make changes to my account, I often had difficulty getting clear answers. It made handling membership matters more stressful than it needed to be. This is your basic experience of what everyone says "why do gyms make it impossible to cancel" this is one of those gyms. I'm sharing this so others can go in fully informed and ask the right questions before signing. Transparency at the beginning would make the experience much smoother for everyone.

This is the only one life location I have come to that staff refuses to acknowledge you. I pay over $50 a month the least that the employees could do is provide the most basic level of customer service why am I not even getting smiled at? I was reply to by the business owner advising me that they would talk to their staff and yet I've seen zero changes and today I went as far as even asking the front desk, lady, why is she refuses to speak to me and she just stood there looking at me, dumbfounded, looking around for somebody to save her I said to her you know you are the only one life location that I come to that refuses to speak to anybody walking into the gym she looked at me like a deer in headlights. Her name is DIANE. train your staff to speak to people. It is literally the bare minimum that your staff should be doing a good morning. Have a good day goes a long way. This is bare minimum customer service. If I did not have to come to this location I would never step foot into this gym, but I refuse to drive 40 minutes every day to Manassas where they actually have trained staff that actually acknowledges their customers and isn't actually 200 times better gym, but I'm stuck here. It would be fucking nice to be greeted. I hate this location. Still being ignored walking into facility :) 11/19 And it's always the same employee. Very clear management could care less. No better location than Manassas and Fort Totten in DC. I recently moved to Herndon so I've been having to try to go to a gym. That's much closer to my house instead of driving for 35 minutes to Manassas and honestly I don't care how petty this makes me customer service should still be at the forefront of all of your businesses. There should be no reason why I'm walking into your establishment early in the morning where I can't even be told, Good morning I just get ignored because your front desk staff is just sitting on their phone , but let their friends come into the building and then they're all attentive and chatting and friendly but if you're not one of their friends, you're not gonna get spoken to I don't appreciate that whatsoever. Customer service is a huge deal to me if it's not obvious from my reviews. Not to mention that this location is huge, but it is completely laid out incorrectly. I'm not really sure why they need for a whole physical therapy office in this gym. If so much space and all the equipment is so freaking close to each other. You don't have any privacy when working out you don't even have personal space forget privacy because you're at a public gym but there is NO PERSONAL SPACE. You can barely even walk through machines you have to completely go around.

I am always greeted by someone at the front desk, which is so important to feel welcome and part of a community. The music always pumps me up. I love the mix and the volume. I believe the volume is perfect so I don't hear other's conversations; hearing just the banging of plates and the music is bliss. The equipment selection is absolutely incredible. The Shop in Ashburn is always adding and changing equipment. They have equipment that I have never seen or experienced before and now can't imagine training without. The shop is so well maintained! They fix their own equipment, so it is not out of order for very long. This gym is also incredibly clean! I mean really clean. Not only is there pride in maintaining this gym but the members (for the most part) are considerate and clean off the equipment and rack their own weights (I have experienced gyms where people don't rack their weight at all). Staff clean the gym as well. The staff are either cleaning the mirrors, moping the floors, wiping down the equipment or walking around with vacuums on their backs. After you have been a member of the Shop you will find other gyms out right disgusting. The staff are always willing to help. I had several occasions that I needed assistance and they always solved it. Another aspect that I really appreciate is the shop does not price gouge for gear nor the protein drinks etc. I really appreciate that. The community (for the most part) are a great bunch of people that work hard and do their own thing to reach their goals. It is really cool, that others watch my lift and cheer me on or want to chat. It is a fairly friendly gym. I even get help to load and deload my lifts, I never experienced that anywhere else. I travel quite a distance to go to the Shop and for that reason I have separate membership to a closer gym. The difference is night and day. The shop is the far superior choice if you care about lifting. If there was only one mark down to my glowing review is it is unacceptable to have tripods filming when it is busy. Especially set up in the middle of the walkways. It is a concrete floor and what if my gym bag hits it and topples over their camera or phone. Members should't have to worry about damaging other property when they don't walk so straight after leg day.

I thought to myself, "Are personal trainers worth the price?" My exercise history has included many methods either for fun or to lose weight and stay fit, but I had never paid for a one-on-one training session. Most recently, I had been running several times a week, but osteoarthritis in my foot led to surgery and now running is no longer a good option for me. I was reluctant to believe that only one 30 minute workout each week would change my body in a visible and measurable way and I was equally unsure if I could find a way to fit this expense into my monthly budget. I was commuting almost two hours a day and the thought of getting up at some ridiculously early time to do a workout at home or in the gym was not appealing at all. I decided I could exchange some discretionary expenses to cover the cost of a personal trainer and give the program three months to see if it was right for me. In January 2016 I started weekly sessions with Laura. I knew that the first couple months would be a slow start and I had to be patient to see results. By the time March came along, I could tell my clothes were fitting better and my husband even mentioned my muscle tone was more defined. The weekly workout was convenient and easy to manage around the rest of my life. Continuing with the sessions was an easy decision for me to make. Through the rest of 2016, I continued to increase my strength and tone of my muscles and I knew that I was on the right track. However, I still had some extra weight that would not come off without a serious change in my diet. January 2017 I changed my diet, reducing carbs and sugars while increasing vegetables and proteins. I also completed a Metagenics 28 day detox which I obtained through Inform Fitness. I have dropped over 20 pounds in four months. Now the muscle definition that is there from my weekly workouts is even more visible and my body is in the best condition and health it has been in since my early 20's. I'm not just skinny; but toned, strong and healthy. I cannot stress enough that this method works to strengthen and tone your muscles, but you also need to adjust your diet if you are looking to lose weight. The reason why I like working with Laura is her ability to communicate and motivate me and her knowledge of exercise physiology. That may sound simple but it really does make me push through even when I want to give up. She won't give up on you, and that is what a personal trainer should do, that is why it is worth the price.

After my consultation with Nicole, I immediately did a trial session and I loved it right away. At first I was hesitant to make a commitment, but I eventually did and got my husband to sign up as well. The workout: It's 20 min. once a week. There are lots of naysayers out there.. but it does work, my husband was skeptical too but now he is a believer. With that little time commitment, how can you say No. That 20 mins however, is probably the most intense 20 min of your week. My results: Of course.. you cannot have a huge body transformation, if you do not get your diet in check.. but I knew that - We love food - the good and bad kinds too. So without dieting or even eating healthier, my results so far: 1. Strong- each week I get stronger and stronger. Very useful for carrying large laundry bins up and down the stairs 2. Endurance and energy- I'm not out of breath after 3 trips up and down the stairs 3. No more pain- I've had on and off upper and lower back aches, pain in my fore arms and elbows.. All supposedly from sitting and typing away. I can't even remember the last time I had these pains. 4. Despite not hitting that BMI chart ... I'm less jiggly! The best part is that despite not having a drastic body transformation, my results have been so positive without sacrificing so much time, I am encouraged to eat healthier and continue on. My husband on the other hand.. In 3 sessions, you clearly see muscle definition and now after 12 weeks..amazing.
