I ordered two dozen individual pies from the bakery for Thanksgiving and they were the star of the show. 10 out of 10 would recommend coming here. Homemade stuffed pretzels with everuthing from breakfast items inside them to just cheese. Fresh cup up fruit and veggies. Every kind of prepped salad you CAN think of. Veggies who veggies sliced. Fruit whole fruit sliced. The best place to find goodies for the weekend. Fresh meats to buy and take home and cook. Ready to eat prepped foods to eat there or take home. It was 3pm when I walked in, and 30 minutes later after two beers walked out with a full rack, extra sauce. Best thing about the ribs? They have that light char taste that goes right through the meat down to the bone. The girl tending bar was great, took good care of my order, and that order was ready just as the beer went empty, so great service. The Oaks has been right here for many many years, pretty eclectic crowd, but mainly just a joint to enjoy the food, have a drink or a beer, and talk to folks. The inside is a nice mish mash of old photos, art that is more thoughtful than you'd expect, and a long wall length bar, that hits the far wall and becomes a row of booths coming back up the other wall. Plenty of good parking, and through the warm months they got outdoor bands, so, something for everyone. Oh, and it's a good place to just be. If you're alone, or killing time, perfect spot. I understand many people enjoy that snap of sausage skin, but it can cause the juices to squirt out and it creates an uneven consistency. One aspect of DiRusso's I find particularly clever is the sausage shape. It is a perfect cylinder, unlike the curved, crescent shaped sausages typically found in grocery stores. This may seems trivial but it allows for perfect, evenly browned sausages whether on the grill or in a pan. I'm glad to report that Jerusalem Food Imports (JFI) falls in the latter category. Hungry for Mediterranean food and having tried all the other local destinations, I gave JFI a try. Boy, am I glad I did. JFI is a specialty market with a kitchen on the left side with a full takeout menu. No space for seating, but I'm working from home, so I was just doing a buy and fly anyway. I was in a chicken shwarma mood, so I ordered one. If you can't tell by the picture, it is monstrous. It looked like they used about a pound of chicken when preparing it. Add in a side of fries (which I didn't know came with it and really didn't want) for $5.99, and you have enough for two meals unless you're extremely hungry. Ate half and saving the other for dinner. It's much tastier than comparable sandwiches (specifically Ghossain's), with the requisite picked veggies and tahini sauce. They also had a complete selection of meat pies, chicken pies and spinach pies. I picked up a spinach pie for $1.99 for later. I also picked up a pint sized tabbouleh for $5.99, where competitors charge $4.99 for 8 ounces. I did try some of it and it's very tasty and fresh. I look forward to trying some kibbeh and hummus next time. K'nafa practically next door is good too. But if you're looking for a lot of food at a tremendous value, give JFI a try. The gentlemen working there couldn't have been nicer, and even offered to include some water without asking. I hope to get the word out on this hidden gem. Give them a try if you like Mediterranean food.
