The chili in the loaded fries tasted like it came from an expired can found in a dollar store. The plain fries were fine and the blt was fine. But they certainly didn't make up for the other food. I love how it has kept the roots of its style; old time diner and cozy atmosphere. But they need to take a hard look at the food quality.

Bonnie Doon Drive-In is THE quintessential old fashioned drive-in in South Bend, Indiana. Think…read moreSonic but legit. My boyfriend and I were feeling silly in June 2026 and wanted ice cream for brunch so decided to go here after a quick search on Yelp. Inside felt like a mix of Grease, Pleasantville, and the Fallout TV show with tin lunchboxes, pictures of classic cars, and cheeky signs decorating every square inch of the inside. While waiting for our food, we hummed along to the music of the 1950s and 1960s playing on the speakers from the same Sirius XM station my parents listen to. Some artists we heard during our lunch there included The Ronettes, Elvis, The Bobettes, The Crests, and The Temptations! Since we both ordered "baskets," we got our sandwiches with fries and a soda. My boyfriend got the green river phosphate soda and I got a diet root beer. His phosphate was so bright neon green that it definitely stood out! We only waited about 5 minutes for our food but that was still enough time to look around the place and listen to some of the orders being placed by cars over the speakers as well as flip through an early 2000s book on some of the must visit hamburger restaurants in the USA. See attached picture for a screenshot of that list. Now, my grilled pb and banana sandwich was a decent size. Not too big and actually reflecting the portion sized people in the 1950s used to eat! The prices reflected the "small-ish" portions as well as we only paid $7.99 for my basket and his was $10.99. The white toast was heavily buttered and the pb was creamy. I would have preferred crunchy pb for texture reasons. The crinkle fries needed salt but they hit the spot! The food itself wasn't anything special but the vibes were perfect! After eating our real food, we then got our heavily anticipated bowls of sugar upon sugar. My bf's medium tin roof sundae was quite large and indulgent ($4.99). But I definitely went hard in indulging. I treated myself to the classic cars sundae ($5.99) with a scoop of birthday cake and caramel moose tracks with strawberry syrup topping. I laugh cried when it came out, I was so happy! It was sooooo much sugar. The total with cash was about $32 and with credit card, it was $33.34 as there is a 4% fee for using a card. I left 40 bucks in cash for the meal and the tip. Then we left and I immediately died of a sugar rush. The end!

All our entrees were delicious (Cobb salad with chicken, Brisket sandwich, and the Hot Mess), each with a distinct wood flavor from the smoker in the kitchen. Can we leave our phone number so you can call us when a non-reserved table opens up? We waited about 30 minutes, and my friend eventually had to call the restaurant back. They said they had called her, but the number was disconnected. So either she gave them the wrong number, they typed it in wrong, or they wrote it down wrong. We arrived ASAP since her house was right next to the restaurant, and we were seated right away. The male host brought out bread. The couple next to us was actually upset because they had been there longer than us and still hadn't gotten any bread. They did get their cheese and butter before we did, though. We asked our waitress for butter and cheese. She nodded but never brought it. Eventually, one of the runners stopped by our table and asked if we wanted some, and that's when we finally got it. I feel like Lucrezia wants to be fancy, but the team doesn't really have their jobs in order. Maybe bringing out the cheese wasn't our server's job, and that's fine, but she didn't communicate with anyone or make sure we got it. There was just no communication. Our server also just wasn't very attentive. I feel like being a waitress is more than just bringing food out. You should be checking on your table and making sure things are taken care of, especially when you're already aware that something hasn't been brought out. The food was really good, but the service was just so bad. She eventually brought us a dessert menu, and I was actually interested because everything looked really good. But we'd already waited so long for our food, and then she dropped off the dessert menu and didn't come back for another ten minutes. At that point, I didn't want to wait even longer for dessert, so we just left. Overall, the food was good, but the service and communication really took away from the experience. Also when we were paying, I paid with cash. I feel like servers should know to give back tippable change. I got a $20 bill back. I was not about to tip $20, which was way over 20%, on below par service.
