Vastly superior to Travelodges though sometimes almost as cheap, or even cheaper when they offer special deals (three nights for the price of two, etc). The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage and a superior standard of furniture and fittings. Our room had a telephone, large flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities with lots of teabags, hot chocolate and fresh biscuits each day. In addition to the large bed was a plush two-seater settee. The en-suite had a large power shower and, again, the tiling and fittings were of a high standard for a budget hotel. There's a modern lift to rooms (very good disabled access), beautiful carpets and curtains, and a foyer with local information and a sweets and chocolate machine. Breakfast came free with the room rate and was served across a short walkway in the Jack Rabbit pub. It consisted of a continental-style buffet with an excellent choice of cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt, breads, toast, preserves and croissants. A machine provided good quality teas or coffees. You can eat as much as you wish and there are helpful staff on hand to assist if need be. A free newspaper (Daily Mail) was also available each day. All in all, a superb value package at only £89 for 3 nights (the special offer this month)! Certainly a chain to watch - there are 200 branches around the country and more planned.

I have now just visited again (July, 2025) It is this recent visit, and the culmination of my previous visits, that I realized above all else, it is the staff, from the front desk personnel, the servers at the restaurant, the bartenders, the house cleaning team and even overnight security that make the Arundell so special. And on this particular visit, one employee in particular (Emma, who often works at reception, went above and beyond to help me out of a significant, unexpected travel bind.  Thank you to Emma and the entire Arundell staff - I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

There are several places to go, from the restaurant itself to the bar area which is very relaxed and has a nice atmosphere, and a lounge area with a roaring fire. I didnt stay at the hotel, and unfortunately, we arrived a bit too early to eat dinner, so cant really provide any reviews relating to either of those things. What I can however talk about is the thrill and sheer exuberance I felt, walking around in the parking lot of the Old School Hotel, seeing the Doc's house, the lovely Harbor bay below, Bert and Al Large's restaurant - it was like visiting an old familiar house! The staff here were super friendly, even when I do think the must get super tired of all the gawking tourists, and cant wait to come back here another time and hopefully this time, experience dinner too! In any case, I came here without a reservation, and I was promptly assigned to the Chemistry room. The room was small (but I did ask for the cheapest they had), but I remember how comfortable it was. I was a big fan of all the pillows on the bed, into which I sank with pleasure. It had an ensuite bathroom, and it was very warm and cozy. I especially liked the view across the harbor. They had a very nice little bar near the reception, and the dinner I had there (fish) was elegant and excellent. A nice couple from Cornwall that I had drank with earlier even invited me to join them. I still remember the conversation. I'd highly recommend staying here while in Port Iaasic.

Their catchphrase seems to be That's not a problem and the food is exquisite. At a recent wedding the whole place was turned over to the families and guests with exclusivity meaning just that. Ok, so it can be expensive but quality and style come at a cost. The decor seems to have been gathered from stately homes, the gardens are well maintained and worth a visit just for themselves. The added joy is the complete lack of mobile coverage which complements the atmosphere. Even the children's meals were special and they loved the idea of four poster beds and hidden treasures to seek out. Glorious, but then again I had one of the best weekends of my life!

Dining at Lewtrenchard Manor cannot be faulted -this has to be the best in Devon surely ???? We had a room that was cold when we arrived, an electric heater did finally top the temperature up to acceptable. Beautiful views from all the windows, and country house period furnishings, but no luxuries in this very high priced room. No fridge, no tea making facilities ( although complimentary tea in the room before breakfast) The Bathroom in dire need of refurbishment, a tiny bath that I could not lie down in, despite being under 5'5, and a general lack of attention to detail. The newest glossy magazine in the room was a year old, the rest being just free magazines from the likes of BMW. The main hall also had nothing new to read, and when asking reception about something to read I was told to go and look in the other reception rooms myself. this also did not turn up anything to read ! They new it was a birthday treat -but no mention ,and not even a welcome card !! The reception rooms all have open fires, but they have such big guards across them, no real heat escapes into the rooms, and of course takes away the atmospere !! We would possibly give it another try, but as it is all so pricey, ~I am not sure I would bother !!
