At first we were sure what to expect (the place is ginormous) but when we walked in their friendly staff greeted us and sat us quickly at a comfortable table for four biker men, haha. The menu was varied and super choices. I was eating light (delicious cheese burger and salad) because of being on the road but my buddies (Jeff and Alan) did not. They ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich which featured prime rib, bread slices, mashed potatoes and gravy and carrots on the side. It was out of this world. They both raved about it. I would definitely recommend The Peppermill. 4.5 Prime Rib Sandwiches

This is one of the few places to eat in Valentine, NE, but WOW am I glad we chose this one! I was a little underwhelmed when we pulled up, and the hostess was as-pleasant-as-required to begin the experience, but when we sat down and started looking at the menu, I almost started laughing. The person who wrote the menu needs a raise, stat - it's hilarious. I ordered a chicken-fried steak and onion rings, and my colleagues ordered a chicken-fried chicken entree, and a steak respectively. When our food came out, it was AWESOME! One of the best chicken-fried steaks I have EVER had, and I am a self-described CFS connoisseur! My colleagues meals were excellent as well, as were some of the local beers. DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY stop by the Peppermill if you are in Valentine - you will NOT regret it.

    Swiss mushroom burger

This place nails it! I didn't know what I was in for when some friends invited us to go here for lunch but it surpassed all my expectations. They had a wide selection of specials that all sounded amazing but I had a craving from a Swiss mushroom burger so I ordered that. Believe me when I tell you they do not skimp on their ingredients. The pile of mushrooms was as thick as the burger they sat on. And they did something I have never seen before, the cooked the button mushrooms whole! Not sliced, not from a can, whole button mushrooms! And they were cooked down perfectly with tremendous flavor. Add to that that you are in cattle country and they use fantastic beef and you are in for a fantastic burger. And then the fries, I don't know what to call them, they are spiral cut but not like curly fries, they are sort of like ribbon cut like at a fair but not thin like that so they aren't like glorifies chips, they still have that fluffy French fry center. I have honestly never had fries like them before. Add to that the waitstaff was friendly and attentive and it was a great meal. Everyone at my table got something different and it was unanimous satisfaction all around.

    Butter mushrooms so good!

Oh my goodness. I am truly speechless with how incredible my meal was at Peppermill but I will do my best to explain via this review so you can all taste the amazing food I had tonight! I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It came out PERFECTLY. Literally melted in my mouth. It was seasoned with only salt and pepper and had some butter but needed nothing else. It came with a side salad and a side. I opted for the rice side option which was okay but chose to add on the buttery mushrooms and those were incredible as well. If you like mushroom, get these! My colleague also had this dish and he said this is probably the best filet mignon he has ever had (I would agree). We also tried the carrot cake for dessert (sounds like dessert options change often so ask the server what is available) and it was great! Not too sweet, a little gingery and a great way to end the meal. I am STUFFED! But it was 100% worth it. Also, the filet is charged by market price (which can be kind of scary) but it was about 35 tonight. Great food, great price.

We stopped at the Peppermill for dinner on a Friday night. The place was hopping and there was a 30 minute wait. The staff was friendly and greeted us promptly. After our wait, we sat down at our table and within a couple minutes, our friendly server was asking for our drink orders. LOVE that! We aren't from the area so had no idea about the beer selections. Our server made some recommendations based on our typical taste in beer. Our drinks arrived in a timely manner and were great. Just what we needed after a long day on the road. We placed our food order for Steakhouse Hot Beef, Chicken Fried Chicken (I know, I was in beef country), and a Chicken Bacon Ranch Sándwich. All of the portions were HUGE and everything was absolutely delicious. My husband's Hot Beef was as big as his head (which is quite large) and my Chicken Fried Chicken with white gravy was super crispy and flavorful. My daughter really enjoyed her Chicken Bacon Ranch Sándwich and cleaned her plate. To be completely transparent, there were a couple of small things that didn't go great. First, our server didn't enter our appetizer order so we never got it. Not terrible though since we had so much food with our entrées. Second, it took quite a while for our server to run our credit card. Neither of these things was significant enough to lower my rating from 5 stars. If you are looking for some great down home cooking, this is your place. No fuss, no muss, just darn good food, drinks and service. I would definitely return if I am ever passing through Valentine again.

    Heart City Strip*

I was in Valentine for work and was recommended Peppermill by many locals. The prices, the staff and food are all top notch. I had the "Heart City Strip" with loaded mashed potatoes for dinner. The food and service was so amazing I went back the next day for lunch, I got the "This is Cheeseburger". If you are in the Valentine area....Peppermill is the move!

    Cobb and Kabob.

If you happen to be in Valentine and you are looking for a good steak you can't beat this place! Family came here for dinner after a long day of driving on our way back from our first trip to Yellowstone and were thankful for a place close to our hotel where we could unwind. The service was prompt and friendly. I started with a grapefruit cider which was really refreshing. Ordered a steak with a salad and the meat was done medium rare with just the right amount of seasoning added. The salad was a generous amount. I really appreciated having options that didn't involve a lot of potato. The other family members tried the prime rib, Jim Harrison pork belly sandwich, Cobb and kabob. I had a taste of the pork belly and prime rib and came away impressed with both! The only thing I tried that I wasn't excited by was the mule which was decent but a little weak in flavor (I was charged the stronger dose price so not sure if that changed the flavor profile). Overall - this place has a lot to offer!

    12oz. 20/83 Ribeye
    Mike N.

The Peppermill is a longstanding Valentine establishment. They excel at providing one of the best steak dinners in the state of Nebraska. I had the 20/83 ribeye, medium rare. The steak was tender, cooked with skill, and exhibiting what I consider optimal beef flavor. This outfit understands how to bring great steaks to the dining public.

Seating was fast! Ordering was a little slow but they were pretty busy. Wait time on food was super fast. Only thing is I would want at least 10-15mins in between apps and main courses. It's a very rich person place. The food was amazing tho. Great flavor on the crust of the chicken and the mash was on point. The pretzel bites were a bit over cooked but still very good. Staff was great!! Although the food was spot on. It will be awhile before we can afford to go back!!

Great service! Great food! Great selection of bourbons. Best part was the glass and the quote " Yelp Sucks!" My interest was piqued after reading it and I turned to reading reviews. My night has been made. Thank you! We WILL be back!

We were on the road from Minnesota going to see Mount Rushmore and wasn't sure if there was any place had good quality food along the way as we didn't wanna stop at you, typical fast food chains such as McDonald's or Burger King so we figured we would give this place a try. Overall, the food was phenomenal. Great portions on everything that they have to offer there from the burgers, shakes ,fries ,onion rings ice cream, and even slushy. We got a chance to try all of these items in one after one each item we tried was a home run. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we were so glad that we made the decision to stop in. The great news is it's not far off of the main highway. Just a few minutes up the road. They have an easy to access drive through and even room to sit inside and outside, but seeing how we were in a rush we just went through the drive-through and got our food and headed off after a few few minutes. The only thing that caught us a little bit off guard was the style in which you order. It's all à la carte so each item is individual and unfortunately that can add up pretty fast so we ended up spinning about $90 three people to eat so that's just something to keep in mind if you are stopping here just be aware. It is a little bit more pricey, but I will say that the food is great and the portion sizes are excellent.
