She then told the person on the phone that she had to go because she had a customer. She said that was the owner and it is hard to get in touch with her. I said that I am sure that the owner would not like you to miss a sale. As she was answering my questions a delivery person walked in and again she dismisses me to speak and hug the delivery man who was delivering honey. I felt totally dismissed and not valued. I end by saying that I am a 70 y/o, African American female. I did not look homeless or dirty. So, African Americans beware when shopping at the Edgewater location.

I had visited the store several times before and always felt comfortable. I had never encountered any issues with the employees or other customers until today. When I walked into the store, I saw three white people: the employee and two customers. The employee asked me, "What is it that you need? What can I get you"?, in such a nasty tone. I replied, "Please finish helping these people while I look around". The next thing I hear is: "I am going to call the police on you". I was shocked. Wait, what just happened? I am upset but calm. I will wait for them and I did. The next thing I hear is: "I am calling Cindy on you". I am confused and upset but calm. Who in the world is Cindy, lol... I turn around and she is trying to hand me the phone stating that Cindy wanted to speak with me. I am going to upload the video if the sites allow me to. I do not take the call. I am not running; I am still waiting for the police. I look up and there is the couple and they have me surrounded. The woman tells me to leave the store because Black people are usually the problem. I am calm, but I inform her to walk away from me or we are going to have a problem, she did but, not without making a racist statement as she was walking away - these niggers..... Black people will ask, why didn't you just leave, NO? Instead, I calmed the situation made my purchase, and then left. I sat outside for about 20 minutes waiting for the police, but they never showed. The employee has an issue with Black people and should not be working in a customer service role because she is a racist who is afraid of ALL Black people. I could have been murdered. During my drive, I decided to speak with Cindy about the situation. However, she dismissed my concerns, laughed it off, and made excuses for the employee's behavior. I hung up feeling that I could have been murdered--not because I was causing a scene or acting irrationally, but because the employee is uncomfortable serving Black customers. Is this still happening in 2024? This is not a safe place to shop for Black and Brown women.

The place had a very good variety of not just spices and aromatics, but also carried halal food as well as Hindu ceremonial items. Some items of note are fresh chilis, a very good assortment of spice blends, ghee as well as oils, and some decent packaged cakes and decent frozen food. I got myself my curry powder, some spice blends for murghi and korma, and am now happily set for my days I feel like curry, or just plain baked chicken with good spice blends. The man running the register is very nice, talkative, and quite helpful as well. Has some fun stories too. It's honestly criminal that this place isn't on the map, especially given it's in a pretty convenient location further south than the nightmare that is the I-95/Rt 13 Traffic Nightmare. It's right near Pizza di Napoli if you need a bit more guidance, since most maps seem to not have them in their database. All in all, it's a great place if you need ingredients or specifically need halal items or just want to dine on decent frozen dinners. Will go again as needed.
