Since I speak no Spanish, the busy owner took my order, and I received only the best. His…read moregrandmother's chalupas, the namesake of the restaurant, were amazing. I had a Caldo Tlalpeño, which was delicious, especially with a little onion and lime. Instead of guacamole and chips, I had bread with avocado and cheese, perfect for dipping. For my main plate, I had the Mole Poblano con Pato, which is the city's famous mole sauce on a tender, properly cooked duck leg. Wow! Oh, and a Vampiro is now my favorite cocktail.

Great local food! This is right outside the Rosewood Hotel alongside 4-5 other restaurants. I came…read morehere for lunch in a group of 12. There's no air conditioning but the breeze comes through. We got the typical traditional Puebla dishes - * chile en nogada (stuffed poblano pepper in nut sauce and pomegranate) * cecina (thin, marinated salted beef) * green enchiladas * caldo (soup) with chili * mole with pork (cerdo) * chalupas combinadas (chalupas with red salsa, green salsa, mole) The bread with avocado and cheese is not complimentary - I think it was like 60 pesos per order, and they brought out 2 orders without asking. Deducting a star for that and the ambiance, or lack thereof. 75 pesos for 2 Palomas (citrus juice with alcohol and salt rim) or 2 sangrias during happy hour. Yes to the Palomas, even though it was made with lemon and not grapefruit juice. The agua fresca of lemon and chia seeds was refreshing too. Now the food is excellent. I don't think I had a favorite. They're all very different. The only thing I wouldn't get again are the chalupas. Fried dough doesn't appeal too much to me. The cecina was too salty for me, but I still enjoyed the flavor. The sweetness of the Chile en Nogada threw off my friends, but I liked it. Reminded me of Persian dishes like fesenjan. The mole was sweeter than I'm used to but was delicious, and the soup and enchiladas were great, too. The service is slow but the grandpa owner is the third generation owner whose grandma established the restaurant - and his grandchildren currently work at the restaurant, so 5 generations have been pouring into this establishment. Hearing the story makes it a part of the experience. So yeah! Recommended for food - perhaps even more so at dinner time when it's not so hot outside :)

Discovered this place thanks to Yelp reviews, very good reviews by the way, and all are correct…read more This place was great. Service was amazing attentive since we arrived. Cozy home cooking but with great flavors. Had the Chilaquiles Doña Gloria and were tasty but my wife had the green cholaquiles and they were a bit better. I think the mix of the sour cream in the Chilaquiles Doña Gloria was a bit strong but both were good. The breakfast includes your choice of fresh fruit and choice of coffee, we chose the Cafe de Olla and it was very good, not too sweet or strong just right, and the coffee has free refills. I highly recommend the chilaquiles for breakfast. We will be back for lunch after our trip to the Pyramid to try the mole a must at this place I have heard. We came back for lunch, well because the place is really that good. Many choices to eat around the area especially since the Fiestas are happening. The lunch was amazing. Wife had the mole envuelto, enchiladas, the mole is like no other a must try if you are going to eat here. I had the tacos de Cochinita, very good especially with the habanero and onion. We also picked up a local dish Chiles en Nogada, WOW, this is a special dish with a tremendous flavor, sweet and savory a must have at this place. If you are here in Cholula this is a must location to eat breakfast or lunch. You will not be disappointed.
