I visited this Pep Boys location to address a front-end rattling noise that began immediately after prior brake pad/rotor and alignment work (over $1,000) completed at a now-closed Pacific Coast Highway location. I was advised at the time to return within a year if any issues arose. On Sunday, 4/26/26, I dropped off my vehicle at 9:00 AM for inspection. I did not receive any updates throughout the day and had to call at 3:04 PM, at which point I was told the car had been test-driven but no issue was found. When I arrived near closing to check in person, I was informed that my car key and paperwork had been misplaced--possibly left in another customer's vehicle. As a result, no work was completed, and I was without my car all day. I had to return home to retrieve a spare key. I was asked to come back the next morning (4/27/26) so they could "make things right." My wife and I adjusted our work schedule to drop off the car. This time, I accompanied the mechanic on a test drive and clearly demonstrated the rattling noise on rough roads. The mechanic acknowledged the issue and later diagnosed it as worn sway bar links, quoting $250 for the repair and assuring us it would resolve the problem. After the test drive, I had to leave for work, so I took my wife's car while she stayed behind to wait for the repair. After the repair, we were told the vehicle had been test-driven and was "good." However, upon driving the car later that evening, the same rattling noise was still present with no noticeable improvement. This experience was extremely frustrating. Not only was there a lack of communication and mishandling of my vehicle and personal items, but I was also charged for a repair that did not resolve the issue. Additionally, my wife lost work time based on assurances that the problem would be properly addressed. How can the mechanic claim he test-drove my car after the "repair," return to the shop, and state that it was completely fixed--then still proceed to charge us? On Tuesday, 4/28/26, I returned to pick up my keys, which had been mistakenly placed in another customer's vehicle. I then went on another test drive with the same mechanic, Miguel. During the drive, he claimed the noise I was hearing was different from the one he supposedly fixed the previous day and refused to take accountability, and under his breath said that I should take my car to another mechanic shop. The manager, Abraham Vega, was also unbothered. They reinstalled my original parts and will be issuing a refund. read more

Excellent service! The right tail light of my mom's Honda civic went out earlier this week. I decided to take it to this Pep Boys on Sepulveda. I wasn't sure what to expect as sometimes I worry about inflated prices for simple car fixes. I am happy to say that is not the case at this Pep Boys. The folks working here were so helpful and they didn't charge me an arm and a leg. I was in and out there quickly too and I didn't have to wait long. Do not change the tire in the store. They are so unprofessional and bad attitute. I changed my Toyota 4 tires over there on May 5. The tire pressure function could not work well. On the report it says coolant is low and of course I received the electronic one after I paid. And now my car is completely locked. Told me I need to tow it to another Pepboys. Torrance pep boys installed new fan belts. two days later they started to squeak. I took my truck to another shop they discovered all three belts were not tight. five minutes to tighten them the squeak was gone. the sad thing is each belt is tightened by turning a screw. would not trust pep boys again. read more

They tried to tell me my battery needed to be replaced when it didnt. Ive never had any trouble like this here before, I came in for a brake inspection and they tacked on the normal recommendations like rotors, brake fluid, and tire replacement. after dropoff they called me on the phone and said they needed to jump start my car and that the battery was bad and should be replaced for $330. I told them to hold off on that and when I came in they backtracked and said it just failed their battery test and should still be changed because it "could die at any moment". sure enough I took it for a free check and my battery was in excellent health at 91% State of Charge. Be cautious with them trying to add on unnecessary repairs. read more

So yesterday I called around to see who has the best price on a brake fluid flush, and this Pep Boys was it. I spoke to Abraham. He was very kind. He said that it was pretty slow that if I wanted to come in, I didn't need an appointment so I did. I was greeted and taken care of by Christina. She was very sweet. They didn't try to upsell me on anything else I didn't feel taken advantage of. It was $70 for the brake fluid flush, which was a lot cheaper than any of the other competitors in the area. I asked if they do cash they do but it has to be exact change so Abraham did was allowed me to pay half cash and then half on the card. My usual mechanic was busy and I needed to get an oil change fast since I had time to kill. Saw Pep Boys had a time slot when I clicked "Make An Appointment" on the Pep Boys military discount site, booked it and went in. Greeted by a very disgruntled person. Wasn't overly rude but wasn't very friendly or welcoming. I booked it through the military discount portal but I guess it doesn't mention it on the system because she wrote an invoice with the regular price. I showed her my military ID and asked about it, and she says only Wednesdays for a $50 oil change. When I mentioned about the 10% daily discount, she just shrugs and says "it's only 10%" and followed up that they don't do it there. I don't like taking advantage of military discounts but hey it's on the site, and saving a few bucks helps a lot when I'm a busy father. Took my business elsewhere, who were much friendlier and professional. I'm never going to a Pep Boys again. No wonder the rest of the regular shop closed down. If I could give no stars, I would. I paid hundreds of dollars to have my brakes done. For 7 MONTHS, I kept feeling grinding, seeing tons of break dust and hearing high pitched squealing. I took my car back 3 separate times and was told every time that nothing was wrong. I finally took my car to the dealer who said that the instillation was done incorrectly. There were pins that were bent. I had to replace everything on both sides (pads, calipers, rotors) which cost an additional $3000. I will NEVER go to Pep Boys for any service work again. read more

Went in for an inspection for my appointment at 12. 2 hours later and they are BARELY checking my car. They came back and told me they didn't see anything, so they were going to take it for a test drive. After taking it for a test drive the mechanic said he felt something and wanted to check it out. Also while going for the drive, another mechanic took a car and parked it where my car was being checked so now i ended up waiting another hour. Waited 3 hours for them to not even know what was wrong. This was highly frustrating to say the least, such a waste of time. 3 hours of my day wasted at this place when I could have went somewhere else to get it checked and been out. That's honestly ridiculous. Poor communication between the mechanics, horrible customer satisfaction.. what's the point of an appointment when it's not being done at the right time? I hate writing bad reviews quite honestly but this is the second time I've had quite rude service at the front desk of the shop. I needed a back up light replaced so made an appointment. I received a call the day before stating that not all bulbs are kept in stock so it may need to be ordered. I said OK that's fine and they said I'll see you tomorrow. I got to my appointment today and the person at the front (I won't use a name but it was Saturday 2/22 at 12pm if anyone actually looks at this) asked if I had the bulb with me to install. I was confused and said no. They said I told you to order it over the phone. I said that is not what you said. They were very insistent that that is what they said. I know it is not what was told to me. I am more than happy to accept when I am wrong or hear wrong, especially when it comes to cars since I know I have limited knowledge, but that was not the case here. There was such an attitude behind it and laughing like I was stupid. Not once did they suggest a solution. Finally, I had to ask if it could be ordered on their end. They said yes, not a problem, but it could take a very long time. They asked if I wanted to wait so I asked how long it would take and they didn't really seem to want to give an answer to that. Eventually, they said it would take about an hour to get the part in and then extra time to install. They had made it seem like it would take hours and hours to get here. It left me feeling like they just wanted to make the whole process difficult for me. When really it seemed to me like a pretty standard job? I was done and out of there in less than an hour. There was no need for any of the attitude at all when it's something that I assume is part of their job to order parts needed. Quite honestly, I'm writing this more so for others than for myself so they don't have the same experience. Go somewhere else where they actually want to help you! read more

SCAMMERS. PepBoys tries to take advantage of female customers, assuming we don't know anything about cars. This morning they tried to convince me I needed to replace my air filter for an outrageous $47.98 and cabin filter for $52.98! I had replaced both in August for $23.83 total. It took a total of three minutes to do myself. You only have to replace these once a year or every 12k miles. I've only driven 3k miles since swapping them out. When I got back to where I'm staying, I opened the hood and unclipped the cover to the engine air filter to examine it. The thing still looks almost new! On top of that, I asked them to examine the rear suspension coil springs because they look very old and my car sounds like a haunted house door when I go over speed bumps. They claimed that the mechanic "Russell" allegedly took the car for a test drive and didn't hear anything. That's a 100% lie. I kept my eye on the car the whole time. He never took it on a test drive. When I confronted them with that, they modified the response to say he drove it over speed bumps in the parking lot and didn't hear anything. That's also a lie. The only time he drove my car was pulling it out of the bay and to the front door. The minute I left and drove down the street and went over a speed bump, guess what? The creak was there. So they're liars and scammers. Shame on PepBoys. This is now the third bad experience at a Pep Boys. I am done with that chain for good. Integrity matters. They may be $10 cheaper but they're dishonest. read more

I replaced my BMW E90 at Pep Boys in 2020, I experienced multiple car hole dead in this year. I checked my battery voltage and it was around 12.4v, so thought it was caused loosened terminal bolt. Since I could revive my car by tightening negative terminal bolt. But it kept happening multiple times, I decided to clean up terminals using sand paper and baking powder. Today I disassembled my car battery and found that Positive terminal T-bolt was being broken and broken part was just placed at same place with covered plastic cover. It has absolutely been broken when I replaced it on Pep boys since I have never touch positive terminal before. I am sure Pep boys's battery was working well even though I used 3 years and it keeps 12.4v battery power. But I cannot believe their battery replacement service is good. Worker noticed this issue but he let me go without any treatment. If I met this problem while I was on long travel, it was serious situation. FYI, BMW 328i doesn't have unlock trunk(battery is inside of trunk) from outside if there is no power, I luckily had jumpstart and could easily open trunk. Worker had to inform me this issue that Positive terminal could be loosened. It might cause serious situation during the driving. read more

I came in with my work vehicle displaying a check engine light and battery issue on a Friday. I expected a call from them at some point letting me know what the diagnostic said. I had to call on Monday to hear they think it's my battery (I told them it was) and they said they couldn't start my car because the battery was dead. Duh. I had to jump my car to get it there! It took a weekend for these people to sort that out. Then, the person says they are trying to get approval to replace the battery but they're calling the wrong place. So they get approval and my battery is done, they call and tell me it's done. She said they ran a diagnostic and itvwas just the battery. I get in the car and start it-the check engine light is on. Icall and she said the technician said it was not on when they started it! Any tech knows the light may go out, but I had reported the check engine AND wrench. The minimal they had to do was run a diagnostic by sticking a reader into the car and let it do its thing. Needless to say, I drove home with a check engine light and I'll never go here for my car or my work cars ever again. So disappointing. I didn't even leave the driveway. Went home and started it again, check engine light still on. I expected them to be the experts. Not me telling them the light may go out when you change a battery, they should know that. This review only has two stars because in the past this location was actually okay on service. I purchased three tires from them and had them put on my car this week. It was not a great experience. This most recent time the following happened: they never called to let me know the tires were delayed after promising to have them on the car on a particular day. So, I prepaid for something that didn't happen until days later. Most importantly, there was vague communication about what brand of tire would be on the car. We asked for Michelins but Continentals were on the car. On the receipt the brand did not appear (what a coincidence!) so we're stuck. Go over every detail and expect delays. The staff that works at this Pep Boys goes above and beyond. I had a brake job done at a crappy facility that shall not be named and these incredible people at this particular Pep Boys diagnosed the issue and fixed it in short order. I will always swear by them, and if you want quality service, you should too! Excellent option when you need cleaning supplies to wash and wax your ride. They carry a much large selection than you might find elsewhere. Another good option is windshield wiper blades; if your car's blades have seen better days, stop in and see if they carry the replacements you need. Much better than going to a dealer. They carry a wide range of car related products and the shelves are always well stocked and neat. They also offer most of the traditional auto services (oil change, tire rotation or replacement, brake service, tune ups). You know the deal. I haven't used any of these services but they are available. I was surprised to see those pine tree shaped air fresheners are still around. read more

I made an appointment online and dropped off my vehicle to have 4 tires and alignment. When I walked in, I was greeted by Darnell, who treated me like we have been friends for a long time. He was very welcoming. He directed his team member on what I wanted done and provided my an estimated time to comeback to pick up my vehicle. His team member did exactly what needed to done by the time stated by Darnell. Sadly, Darnell informed me about the changes going on with Pep Boys. The parts department was sold to another company, and some of his friends will have to reapply for their positions. Some of his friends have been with the company for a long time, and now they'll have to start off from at the bottom if their hired back. I bought a whole set of tires here because I had an emergency and needed tires on a holiday. Only place open. I came back after several weeks because my low tire pressure light was coming on. Lady at counter was so rude. Took her 10 min to acknowledge me standing right in front of the desk. Then said she'd help me in a few. She proceeded to type in stuff on the computer for another 10 minutes and the asked if I had an appt. So rude. Horrible customer service. read more
