I stopped in yesterday to get my oil changed in my '07 Saturn. This is the first time I took it to this Pep Boys. I was very pleased with the service. I was told upfront that I would have to wait an hour (which I did not mind at the time). But what really pleased me was that when I asked the difference between a high mileage oil change and a conventional the employee was able to answer my question. Don't laugh but I did not know the difference. The reason why I asked was because I went to a different place to get my oil changed the time before and the person told me that I needed a high mileage oil change because I was at 100,000 miles. I didn't think anything of it and spent a lot more money. The employee at Pep Boys informed me that I did not need to do that. He did not pressure me into getting anything extra done to the car. And told me when I was going to start needing a high mileage oil change. I wish I could remember his name but everyone I spoke to yesterday was fantastic. I agree with the guy who said 1 star is too generous. On 8/19 my car broke down in the Bustleton Ave shopping center in front of Pep Boys service center. Jeffrey was at the front desk and decided that since trying to jump to my battery wouldn't work, it "must be the starter." Andrew M was the technician, and when I received his inspection report, none of the codes that showed up indicated anything about a starter issue. Unfortunately, it was not the starter, as my car shut off on me while I was driving just 5 days later. When I finally got the vehicle back to my house, I called Pep Boys and explained the situation. The woman on the phone told me she'd get Jeffrey; after 15 minutes on hold, I hung up and tried again - this time no greeting, they just picked up and put my call on hold again. I tried a 3rd time, and same thing. The next day I was leaving for vacation and had to rent a vehicle, on top of the $600+ I spent with PepBoys for a part I didn't even need, to safely get to my destination. I took my car to my Ford dealership when I returned from vacation, and they discovered the issue was actually a blown #9 fuse and bad purge valve. My car has not broken down since Ford serviced it. For the past month I've called Pep Boys regarding this issue and have been told a manager reviewed my case (#154026) and will call me - I've still have never heard back from anyone. I've also emailed them at least 2 times and those have gone unanswered as well. The same day, there was an older woman who came in just minutes after me with the same issue, her car wouldn't start. Jeffrey said that was a starter issue as well; also before her car was even inspected/put to a code reader. Coincidence, or were starters a sales push during that time? Considering no one has had the decency to return my calls or emails, I suspect either a guilty conscience or willful ignorance. Listen to reviews! I went there for rear tires a while ago and after checking my car the guy said I had picked the wrong size and my tires would cost more ok my mistake needed tires and was already there! Today I went in for an appointment and asked the guy to check if the tires I ordered were right and he said they were ok told me it would be 1-2 hours despite appointment. Again I'm there ok I'll wait. 2 hours later they call me and tell me the tires I ordered were not correct and when I said this was why I asked you this when I came in? He insulted me by saying I never asked him that and instead of trying to resolve my concern he just wanted to belittle me! I felt uneasy dealing with him again, he had not been very pleasant initially either. I asked him to just put my tires back on I'd figure it out later, he said fine I'll cancel your appointment. I don't think he ever did because I waited another hour to get my car and I guess he had left as another guy finally got my keys when I asked about my car! 41/2 hours later and no tires! On Saturday, September 30 at 6:15 pm I went into the service department area of the Bustleton Ave. Pep Boys store with a flat tire repair problem and purchase attempt. The shop assistant (female) stated they were booked already and since they were slated for a 7:00 pm closure of the service bays she said I could not even get a tire placed on a rim or purchase a new tire with 45 minutes to go to close! My attempt at an Emergency purchase need failed, I had to put on my 50 mph doughnut tire and drive it home for 13 miles away and was refused to purchase a tire and wheel balance for service! Took car in for inspection. Told them upfront I thought it would fail (check engine lights). Quoted an inspection price. Got a "Courtesy inspection report" later that said it no pass with check engine light. Yeah, I know. When I called, I asked what was needed for the car to pass. Well, then comes the bait and switch, they wanted another $120 to do a diagnostic. That's BS, it should be part of the inspection to tell you whats wrong with the car, so you can get the stickers. So they should have said $200 for the inspection, which is a ripoff to begin with, not $89 for a PARTIAL inspection. I'm reporting this station to Pendot for investigation, and BBB, google, and yelp for a warning to others. read more

My husband went to this place at 9 o'clock in the morning for a tire plug. He waited three hours. They kept on telling him 40 minutes 45 minutes. 15 minutes. . If this place is not staffed enough they should be honest and not keep people waiting for all these hours, afterwords they were going to charge him over 200 and something dollars for a little low grade tire. Luckily my husband decided to go somewhere else and that's when he learned that Pep Boys was just a rip off overcharging him for a low grade tire and keeping him waiting three hours, etc. for it to get a plug on the tire or even change the tire. So I made an appointment for 4pm yesterday July 20th, 2019, for a rear brake pad change and an oil change. Guess what? It is now July 21st,2019 and it's 10:15AM and my truck is still not out with no call or update to when it's going to be finished. I took it here because you'd figure with the advance set of tools and equipment they could do it faster than me, I know for a fact it doesn't take 8 hours to change oil and brake pads. Even giving this place a one star is too generous! I had an appointment about an engine light issue on 2015 Hyundai Sonata on Wednesday 7/31/2024. When I called later that day, I was told they knew what the problem was and were searching for the part. Three days went by with no calls or updates on their progress. Frustrated with their lack of communication on the progress, Saturday I went to get my car. My car was sitting in the same spot where I parked it. I was charged $118.00 for a engine diagnostic When they handed me so-called results, it only read P200A Code, "I don't know what needs to done"...THAT IT NO DETAILS!!! I thought diagnostics were supposed to give you a read out of the problem, how to resolve that problem down to what part(s) are needed... SOMETHING!!!. I had to pay $118 for results I could have gotten off a simple ODB2 code reader. Do yourself a favor, find some place else for quality service. Do not take your car here. This is the second time I take my car in for an oil change and the "free tire rotation" thats offered with the service. Both times the tires were not rotated as stated. The first time I was able to identify the tires because I marked them. They were still on the same side as I left them. I asked them if they had rotated them and they claimed they did when clearly they did not. Had to wait another 45mins until they rotated them since I complained. The 2nd time I did not notice until I got home that they also were not rotated. I did ask when I picked my car up and again they claimed they did. Not a good look! Beware!! They are saying they performed certain services on your car and are not. I will not be returning to this or any Pepboys again for service. If I can leave 0 stars I would!!!! read more

I caught a flat tire on Cottman Ave. trying to pull into a shopping center. I was in tears and tried putting tape on my tire when this nice man told me to go to Pepboys and that they could replace my tire, which was right around the corner. I pulled in and went straight to the service desk. I was a bit distraught and had tears in my eyes. The service manager was busy talking to a coworker and he had his mask down. A mask down? In a pandemic? Strike one. I say "Hi, I was trying to pull into the shopping center, but caught a flat. I have a spare tire in my trunk. Do you think you could fix it?" He says with an attitude, "Listen honey, we're very packed today. You're gonna have to wait." I was taken back by his tone. Like duh, I expected to wait. I didn't have an appointment and this happened randomly. Waiting is inevitable. Strike two. Despite his condescending attitude, I was able to able to calmly say "How long do you think that would take?" I sounded so desperate. He said in a bothered tone "About two hours. But we're really busy honey." Strike 3. I ended up going outside and calling my stepdad to figure out what to do. He reminded me we have AAA. Thank god for that!! I would've had to fork over money to people who didn't deserve it! I didn't mind having to wait two hours to be seen. But the attitude, the not wearing a mask, and the overall rudeness was so gross. Where to even start. My brake line broke right around the corner on castor Ave. I was an auto mechanic before becoming an industrial mechanic, so when I heard the line sucking air and pedal getting soft I knew what happened. I knew if I babied it I'd get to Pepboys. I get my truck to the parking lot and crawl under. There's a coupling under the driver door and follows the frame rail all the way back to a rubber hose above the rear. The line doesn't go above the tank, like some trucks, it's a straight shot down the frame. Now it's about 4-4:30 pm as I'm dropping my truck off. I walk in and talk to the service writer and he writes me up. Now during this time he reads off my address and I tell him, no that's wrong I've moved but that is me. He replies I'll change it later but never asked me for my address and never brought it up again. I tell him if the mechanic that's going to look at it is free I can go outside with him and show him exactly where it burst and how easy it is to try and expedite things. He tells me he'll call me later tonight once he has his "A" technician look at it and says good night. I ask him if there's a charge and he tells me if I do the work there isn't but if don't there's a 40$ charge. So was he ever going to tell me about this charge if I decided to take it else where? I go home and never hear from him that night. I have to take off the next day waiting for his call because I have no other form of transportation to get to work. I eventually call at 10am the next morning asking about my truck. They tell me it's been looked at but an estimate was never put together so he'd call me back in a half hour. He eventually calls me back telling me the fuel tank has to be lowered and it's going to be 525$, no break down just a flat price. I tell him no the tank doesn't have to be lowered, it doesn't go over the tank it follows the frame all the way back. We go back and forth and eventually I tell him fine just do it. By the time I pay his 40$ and a towing fee+whatever an honest shop wants it'll be similar. While paying for my truck 2 service writers keeping going back and forth about a customer that is supposed to come in that night. "If that woman gives me any shit I'll give it right back." To be saying this right in front of other customers, so unprofessional. While paying I ask about a 35$ shop fee and all I got was "all corporate company's do that." At this point all I want to do is take my truck and leave. I pay for it and before I even leave the parking lot I crawl under, I instantly become infuriated. My 4 year old son can draw a straighter line than this line was bent. I pull out my phone and start taking pictures. The line has 4 spots its pressed into and clamped onto the rail, mine was only pressed into one. The way the line was bent it wasn't even close to where else it was supposed to be pushed into. The fuel tank was never dropped like I said, so I was charged for a service I never received. For those that don't know if you put a tool on a rusted bolt it will leave a tool mark, especially with using the correct size socket. I took pictures of 2 bolts untouched and then what they looked like after turning out by hand with a ratchet and then the other after using an impact gun. The leave marks on the corners and at the bottom of the bolt where the tip of socket is pressed against. I've never received such horrible service all while being charged for services I never even received. Stay far far FAR away from this Pepboys. read more

I dont even know where to start. The first time I picked up my van up ( they told me it was ready) I paid for it and It didn't even start. The manager Alex ( whos nice) was like this shouldn't happen. The 2nd time I picked up my van ( it was ready) My belt was off and in my van seat and the tools was in my van. Ready!!?? I was excited to get my van and go to church. It wasn't even driveable. Pay attention to the reviews. They will tell you they serviced you and they didn't do anything. They made me pay for service that was not done. My van have a lot of noise. I told them what was going on with the noise. They said I needed to clean my oil filter, get new spark plugs, oil change, a new alternator, a new belt, a new battery and a new gasket cover value . I did all that because I trusted the mechanic Eric & Williams at pepboys on bulteson ave near target . They took my 2000 dollars and guess what. It wasn't fixed. I brought my van back and now they say. The noise is from the engine. What!!? Now why would I take my van somewhere else when I already paid for the service that I needed. God help me. The guys says it'll be done by 8, no "sorry it's taking 27 hours or more for a 30 minute job" And the assistant service manager is just aimlessly walking around. Awful. Came in to get new Brakes and rotors for an appointment. Appointments at this place means leave the car and 'maybe it will get done by the end of business'. They do not fulfill their appointment commitments. Brakes were installed incorrectly, causing grinding. The second attempt to get the problem corrected, the vehicle was left in the parking lot, they pretended to do work, before telling me the work was done and no problem was found. Left the shop for the second time with unsafe braking system. Found a local shop to fix problem that pep boys caused and pretended to correct. I had an oil change scheduled for 8 am yesterday, I was there at exactly 8am, dropped the car off. Roy, the Service Desk associate, told me it will be about 30 to 45 minutes, and he will call me when they are done. I figured I can do a little shopping at Target next door. 5 minutes later I get a call that their technician has recommendations for my car. This and that, and I know that none of it is necessary. So I decline politely, and we hang up. Fast forward to 10am. Still no phone call. I go in, I see my car sitting in the parking lot. I go in, Roy seems to be unaware that the oil change has already been done. This is not how I wanted to spend 2 hours of my birthday. And this is a weekday special and appointment. 2 hours? Even with a 1pm appointment I waited over TWO HOURS to get a tire changed!!! These guys are either understaffed or grossly mismanaged. I understand things come up on other customers cars but when you specialize in tires, tell the customer 45 minutes, they have an appointment, AND your slogan is "TRUST THE BOYS" this is totally unacceptable. Went here for oil change and wheel alignment. I scheduled via their website in which I chose a 59.99 mobil 1 oil change and a 120.00 3 year warranty wheel alignment. So I checked in thinking that they have all these information. Upon check in i mentioned again the services i wanted and mentioned the 59.99 oil change. Fast forward, i picked up my car and checked on my receipt. I was charged $78.00 dollars for a pennzoil oil change which on their website is priced at $54.99 and an $89.99 wheel alignment plus other charges with only 6 month warranty. In short, they did not do the services that I ordered when i scheduled services via their website and overcharged me on the oil change. What's worse is that, when i asked for the print out of the job done on the wheel alignment which is pretty much standard in all repair shops, they could not give one and said that their printer is out. I was disappointed because i had high expectations on this company being one of the biggest car service in the industry. These are simple things and details that even a fly by night repair shops can do. This proves that it's really hard to find an honest and reliable mechanics/repairshop nowadays. Having experienced this in this company is unbelievable. The attendant told me to come back on monday so they can refund me the $20.00 difference on the oil change. I recently had an inspection done and wait time was exactly what they said. Today I brought another vehicle for service and dropped it off. Car was done sooner than the time they told me, which was great. This service department has great customer service. I have to comment on what people do not understand about how repair ESTIMATE's are done.. when you go to get work done for example brakes.. remember all the components involved and some broken/worn parts are not foreseeable until the repair area is disassembled. Also if you can't see through walls how can you expect the service writer to see what else is wrong upfront. Therefore increasing the repair bill. read more

I am currently still in the midst of a bad experience here. There appears to be no urgency with the staff checking customers in for auto service. I have come here a few times and have experienced long wait times with minimal communication, but today is my breaking point. Making an appointment is useless, because I had a 9:00 appointment for an oil change and still saw my car sitting where I parked it over 2 hours later. If I would've known it was going to become an all day affair I would've made arrangements to leave instead of spending my entire morning in the waiting area. I recently visited Pep Boys for the first time to have my oil changed, inspection/emission test, and a set of new tires. My vehicle is about 15 years old. The upfront estimate was about $1000 for all the services. I received a phone call stating that I needed a new part for my car to pass inspection. The end all total was about $1300 for everything. I got the cheaper tires and lower grade oil. The new part took two days to come in so that was not fun. The flip side is that I scheduled my appointment online and they were ready when I got there. If my car didn't need the part my car would have been done in a few hours. Overall not bad. I don't know much about cars so this seems to be a place to go when you don't have a local mechanic. Went in for a simple oil change which is supposed to take 30 minutes according to their website. Dropped it off 15 minutes early and come back over an hour later and ask if it is done yet. Not only was it not done, it wasn't even being worked on. I said I'm just taking my car because I had to get back to work. Why have us make an appointment for a 30 minute oil change if you aren't able to abide by those standards?
