Forgot to update! So, the $500 work was done with a faulty part. While taking the truck back to get fixed, the engine overheated, causing damage to the engine. Now I am losing pressure in cylinder 7 and need to replace long block. Unfortunate for me, I didn't know they were connected and replaced coils, spark plugs, and fuel injectors before figuring it out. Good fun. sent wife for oil change, nothing major so easy as stopping by on way to her friends house right? recieved text telling me they want to replace back motor air filter so I figure they are taking care of her and her car. next came THE call - very loud banging from hood and she has no idea, I asked her to ask them what happened and they told her it was nothing they did, the noise is in the differential drive shaft. so I have her bring car home and not to friends house. I look under the hood and find they had totally snapped the air cleaner box housing and when I pulled it out I found the rubber spacer made to soften the vibration under the housing, the snap to the housing was broke off and now - after ordering the part they broke, the oil change cost her almost $200.00 even with her $20 coupon. no her car will never see them again. read more

Put a new front end on my 2012 Ford Transit having finished I went to pep boys for tires and a front end alignment. Pep boy put the tires on but then told they couldn't do the alignment because the tie rod were rusted on. If I wanted the alignment I would to pay another 1000 dollars to replace the tie rod. I told the woman behind the counter they were lier's having put new tie rods on . She got angry with me and band me from the store. I called there corporate office and complained.they to a report and was supposed to get back with me in 2 or 3 days. You have to call an 800 number which then refers you to their website for quicker service. I click that I wanted to talk to customer service. The phone rang. Then no noise or anything and then a minute or two later it disconnected. When you have a flat tire and you're standing under the sun you don't want to have to mess around with clicking on a website to order a tow truck. As far as I'm concerned this service is worthless. So twice now I have been into this pep boys store in Evansville. First time I had an appointment for getting a new battery and I stood at the counter and was the only one in store. There was 3-4 employees behind the counter and nobody even ever acknowledged I was there. So after about 15 mins, I walked out. The second time, and there will not be a third, was today. I placed an order online to pick something up. Luckily I had chosen to pay in store. I walk in an told a girl what I wanted and she didn't say let me find it, give me a few minutes, or anything. After another 15 mins or so, I said, "do I need to come back or what?". She said well Greg pulled out and I don't know where he put it and I cannot find him. I'm sorry. Just had one of the shadiest experiences that I've ever had at an oil change place. They advertise a $20 oil change but don't really offer one. They get +1 star for "fixing" their switch. -5 for the shadiness and not really fixing their switch. Bait and switch scheme. I talked Scott on the phone who quoted me the price for an oil change. I asked if they ever had any specials, and he said that they did. A manager's special of $19.99. I asked if that required me to come by at any certain time. He asked how soon I could be there. I arrived 10 minutes later, said that I had talked to Scott who told me about the Manager's Special for a $19.99 oil change. I was told by JT that the Manager's Special included their One Step fuel treatment. A little over 30 minutes later, they were done. My total came up to over $30. I said that I had come in for the manager's special of $20. The gentleman checking me out said that the Manager's Special is $20 for the oil change, plus the cost of the One Step treatment of $10, making the total the same as their regular priced oil change. That the One Step Treatment is "free" with the special. I retorted that I came in for the Managers Special of $20, why would I want to pay more? JT was there as well, telling me that he had told me about the One Step treatment. I asked why I would ask for a $20 oil change if that isn't what I wanted and why he hadn't told me that it would be more? He quickly told the gentleman checking me out to take care of it. They still ended up charging me $3 for the One Step. As I drove away, I noticed they have a sign outside that says: Manager's Special $19.99 No asterisk or anything on the sign. Definitely won't be going back to any Pep Boys, even for parts. read more

I don't blame the management for being mean because they probably deal with a ton of mad customers. Whoever is setting their prices is really to blame for all of the negative reviews here. I got quoted $800 and had the car towed somewhere else. At the other shop I paid $200 for replacement of a new thermostat and a hose, saving me $600 minus the tow. These guys are crooks and the management is mean. Anybody that gives a positive review of this place has either been asked to do so, or they are oblivious to the fair value of the services they are receiving. read more

We have a rental, that had a side wall hole in it, and the gentlemen here at this location were amazing! Got us in and out in a timely manner and assured us in every aspect. They tried to bill the rental agency, but to no fault of their own the VIN numbers wouldn't match (even though they did), so we had to pay out of pocket. Absolutely terrible. My car broke down and was towed there. I called repeatedly to get updates only to be given excuses as to why they hadn't looked at it yet. 2 weeks and many calls to them later, a family member stopped in to ask if they had information about my car and they said I was dodging their calls. (not once had they called me) Then asked my family member to pay over 100 for diagnosis and handed over my keys. (The diagnosis btw was that it was not fixable.) They car never moved from the spot the tow truck left it. I only found out they had handed my keys over to someone else after several more calls. When I got angry that I was not informed the man on the phone said he would call it in stolen and report me for making a false stolen car report. What does that even mean?!?! read more

I took my vehicle to Pep Boys at 10 a.m. yesterday, June 3, 2014. There was one person in front of me and I was waiting for my turn. Scott, the employee at the desk, appeared to be a bit hurried and impatient. While the other customer was signing paperwork, Scott curtly said to me, "Do you have an appointment?" I said "No...." He sighed and again snapped, "Are you going to wait??" I said no, I was planning to leave the car, that I had transportation." He didn't do a complete Eye-Roll, but close. He sighed, got a piece of paper and asked what I needed. I started to explain and then, feeling awkward at the other customer not being finished yet, asked if he wanted me to wait until he was finished. He quickly said "We're finished, Sir" and the customer left. I stepped up to the desk and began to tell him that my headlights were dim, and repeated what my husband had told me about possibly having the wrong bulbs. Scott smirked and said "What else?" I said, "My air conditioner is working, but only intermittently, it seems..........." and I was cut off mid sentence by Scott snapping "We can't do anything about your air conditioner!! What else?" The customers in the waiting area had all stopped what they were doing to look and listen. I said, "Well, nothing I guess, thank you anyway." I turned to leave and he held both hands up and said, "Well......we can take CARE of the other things!" I replied, "But I would still have to take my car to someone who can fix the air conditioning, so I'll have them fix the other things too." He moved on to the poor guy behind me. I have to agree with one thing Scott said, Pep Boys can't do anything about my air conditioner. Firstly, because I'll never take a vehicle there again, and secondly, because we had our daughter's car there last year and after keeping it for three days, Pep Boys couldn't fix it. So yes, you are correct Scott, Pep Boys cannot do anything about my air conditioner, but you didn't mind charging us to try last time. What was different about yesterday? If your services offered have changed, I wasn't aware that you no longer do A/C. If the A/C man in your shop was out that day, then say so, but jumping down my throat about it as though I were a brainless ninny (and maybe I am for going to Pep Boys) is not the way to handle this. If you are this worked up by 10 a.m., maybe you need another job. I am grateful for this situation though, because I then remembered another place I used to take my car many years ago, right over the Kentucky border in Henderson, KY. I checked, and they are still there. They are still family-owned. They are still friendly and don't treat customers like crap. We hit a pothole on highway 64 and we needed a tire to get back on the road. The dealership wasn't open and none of the other 5 places had the tire. We called and spoke to Scott who checked and said they did not have the tire. however, Scott went above and beyond when he said he would make a few phone calls for us and see if he could find it and call us back. 10 minutes later we get a call saying he found it and he'll go ahead and pick it up. When we finally got there Jack got the tire on quickly and checked out everything to make sure it was ok. Got us back on the road in less that 30 minutes. Awesome customer service on the middle of our road trip and one of the only people that would help us out when we needed it. read more

DO NOT BUY ANY PARTS FROM HERE!!!! Had an alternator issue yesterday and had to have job done, charged $354 for an alternator that you can get an any auto parts store for $75. Parts pricing is outrageous and customers should be made aware that they can probably buy the part for a third or a quarter of what PEP BOYS SYSTEM is going to charge you. I'm a working stiff getting ready to go on vacation so if the job could have been done for $200 or less and I end up paying $500, it leaves a very nasty taste in your mouth. Not pleased at all with them not explaining that as an option, could have saved $200+ dollars. Loyalty is built by trust, I'd like to think I can trust that a place that I've brought my vehicles several times before, would be looking out for the best interest of the customer as to retain a lasting customer relationship, live and learn, the almighty dollar reigns supreme.......This just burns me up.... read more

I had to take my car in to get the brakes check and the only time I am able to do that is on the weekends. I saw that Pep Boys does service on weekends so I made the appt online. When I arrived I spoke with Scott Pate about the appt. At first he said that they don't service Mini Coopers and they have problems with parts. He said he would get it back and let me know what was wrong with it. After taking a look he returned to tell me that the calipers were sticking to my back brakes and they needed to be replaced. He ran the prices by me and I was close to passing out because I didn't really have the money to spend to replace those parts. He really helped me out though and was able to lower the price and repair what needed to be repaired in order to get my car back on the road. I'm really grateful for that. read more

Don't ever go here. I had my car towed using their service. Had the $200 part I had already purchased in the vehicle when it left. (Hub assembly/locked up wheel) I was quoted $110 plus the cost of an oil change. 4 days go by and I get a call that my car is done. Ask for the total. $460 dollars! They tell me there was no part in the car. The mistake we made was we left the part in the bag we had purchased it in and the receipt was still in the bag. So we don't have much proof. Why did no one call when the part wasn't in the vehicle, which it WAS!!! They said they would look around and call me back. No part. Called the tow driver which he said he knew personally and he backed them up saying no part was in the car. All the tow driver did was drive it onto the lift???? Now they tell me either pay or they'll take the wheel bearing off, charge me labor and oil change and my car would not be driveable. So they have me where they want me and I am now paying double for a part I had already purchase. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never ever do business here. read more

I have been to this Pep Boys for work on my Honda on four separate occasions over the past two years. On my most recent visit, Scott, Justin and the others who helped me were courteous and helpful. They worked me in when my car needed a repair, and Scott had one of the mechanics drive me to work. Scott even gave me a break on the price of the repairs when my car needed something extra. Employees need to be checked for brain activity. That was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had at any kind of business.

After 5 days of having my car they still weren't and to make it run. They told me they would call me everyday to give me an update on where they were with it. I had to call everyday half an hour before they close to get any information. I called this morning to check if it was ready and they said they had it running but once I showed up the problem was still not fixed. On the phone I told them I believe I may need a new fuel pump but once I showed up they said they never looked at it would need a few more days. I payed $50 to have them tow it and waste my time. read more

This place has the worst customer service ever. Let me start by saying that after my oil change 3 months ago, I took it to another service area to get my oil change. Come to find out that the technician has stripped my oil pan bolt. The gasket on the bolt was shriveled, the bolt was stuck, and it was advised to take it back to Pep Boys since they couldn't unthread the bolt and they were the last ones who changed it. Anyway, I told Pep Boys that this needed to be fixed before I go to Memphis. The hours of operation is on the same hours as my job. And I told them that I could not drop off my car and I would have to do it on a day that I'm off and they have refused to do it on a time that I can. I would give a negative star if I could. I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM EVER AGAIN. And if you want to have someone to do great service to your car and have great customer service, this is not the place for you. read more
