I had used Team Automotive on a few occasions previously, so I called to see if they could get my car in and write me up an estimate to turn into my warranty company due to the A/C leaking out coolant, and for an inside air vent that was "clogged." I explained over the phone that I didn't want it repaired yet because I had to turn it in first. I didn't have the money to pay for it myself. I dropped it off while they were closed, and wrote a note explaining AGAIN that I only wanted an estimate, no work done, and dropped key and note in dropbox. The next day, they called and said they looked at it and even fixed the vent. That confused me since I made clear I couldn't pay for anything. He rambled on about they did this and that and to repair the A/C would be around $120. He said they had about $40 into fixing the vent and that my warranty probably had a $100 deductible anyway. I was getting more confused. All I wanted was a written estimate and nothing done to the car. He said nothing over the phone about any costs associated with doing the estimate. He also received my note with my info explaining what I needed. He still never called me beforehand to say it's going to cost to run diagnostic tests or whatever. He kept beating around the bush on the phone and I finally said, "Do I owe you money for this?!" He said, "Yes, $100." I was beyond upset!! I only had $120 to my name, for bills and groceries. Everyone in my household is out of a job due to the stay at home order. And there's a newborn in the home. That was the last money I had. I would have never taken the car in if he had told me upfront that it would cost for an estimate. I went and got the car, put $100 on the counter. He knew I was furious. He handed me back $20 and said he was only charging me $80 and that if I brought the car back for them to fix, he'd take $40 off. I took my $20 and the "estimate" and left without saying g a word! I got home and looked at the paper he handed me. It wasn't even an estimate. It did not even show how much it would cost to fix the A/C!! Omg! I can't even turn it in to my warranty company if I wanted to. He tried to scam a woman by doing "work" on the vehicle so he could hold my car hostage. He never indicated there would be a charge for the estimate, and was given two opportunities to do so before even touching the car. I will let everyone I know, know what a scam you just pulled! read more
