I came in here looking for allergy relief for my dog but also for my family. The gentleman who helped me from the wellness center was very knowledgeable and kind. He gave me tips for my dog and now I know why he suffers from allergies all year round....the allergens never go away in central Texas! Oh the battles we fight. People's is the place to go if you need any prescription, but specifically medications that are somewhat specialty, obscure, or custom compounds, like creams. It's also a great place to find homeopathic remedies with the help of a healthcare professional who cares. They were one of the first places to have a wide variety of CBD products. Their selection is pretty pricey, but CBD products are a little expensive everywhere. The coolest things about People's are the health and wellness classes they offer and the People's Wellness Center. They have a calendar with a variety of seminars and events that provide education on traditional and holistic health and wellness topics. The Wellness Center also brings together traditional and holistic practitioners to help you 9am to 6pm M-F. Seems to be a nice little pharmacy it's almost like walking into a Walgreens minus the non-pharmaceutical products. The people were very nice the pharmacist was nice. This is a compounding pharmacy so you can get things here that you can't get at other pharmacies. There are not many compounding pharmacies around so this is a great place to get specialty creams, i.e. happy Hiney for your kid in diapers. They also offer other compounds that if your doctor prescribes this is about the only place you can get it filled. read more

Two thousand miles from home, I run out of supplements and my compounded meds were missing! I'm in a panic, and I ring Peoples Rx and ask is it possible they could help me! They tell me come on over and we will help you. I get there and the sweetest lady asked if she could help us. I explain the situation and she gets me sorted. I was so grateful. But there is more, you see, we were leaving our son and his family to head back home to WA state, and it was a sad day for me! She noticed and I can't even remember what she asked me, but it was enough to cause tears to come! She was so kind and relayed how when she has to leave her grand babies her husband pulls over and let's her cry for half an hour then they get back on the road! she understood and was vulnerable with a total stranger to comfort me in my sadness! I find it hard to believe no one has yet reviewed this Peoples Rx location. I haven't actually been in the store, but I have worked with them over the phone to get a vitamin supplement that all the other Peoples locations were out of transferred to the Peoples nearest me. I had no name recognition and no prior business dealings with this location, yet they treated me with the utmost respect, as if I were a valued lifetime customer. These guys are really the best at what they do. They are really friendly and have several locations throughout Austin. They offer to call you back when your prescription is ready or has been called/faxed in by the doctor's office. They are always more than willing to consult with you about prescriptions that you are picking up. They are really professional and timely. Now I will have to say that their pricing is a bit higher than their competitors but they do also offer a lot more than the other guys, too. I definitely like stopping by at this location and asking questions that would not normally be answered anywhere else. Updating my review. After working out I went here to grab some of my usual vitamins. I was circling the tiny store for around five minutes before a gentleman reluctantly came up to me and asked "need some help sir?" I obviously corrected him and said "ma'am" which apparently was funny because it sent him into hysterical laughter. Uncomfortable experience for me and I will avoid going here at all costs in the future. I used to love people's pharmacy. I will always hold a special place in my heart for the woman who worked here and helped me discover some health issues I had going on but it is obvious that times have changed and so has the quality of customer service here. I accompanied my wife into this location, to pick up a prescription. There had to be around 12 people working and only probably 8 or 9 customers. We waited at the pick up counter for an unbelievable amount of time. Several individuals were working behind the pharmacy counter and 2 or 3 employees looked at us and kept on working. Always makes my day when I am completely ignored! A sales rep (sounded like he said he was from DSL) came in and started working with a sales person on the retail floor, stating "I don't have any certificates, but I have some coupons" or something to that effect. Sounded like the employee was receiving something prior to the sales effort being made. This employee walked by us 3 times without acknowledging our presence. After approximately 3 to 4 minutes a "management person" came out and instructed the pharmacy staff to wait on us. Reluctantly a pharmacy individual finally walked up to get our prescription. She had a difficult time at first locating my wife's meds and seemed offended when my wife told her it was probably in the refrigerator. My wife received a tart response IMHO. The lack of customer service astonished me. Given the ratio of employees to customers one would surmise there would be absolutely no waiting period. Not the case! Regardless of work load or personal problems customers should be the primary focus in any retail situation. After all, the customers sign your paycheck in effect. This pharmacy is one of the few pharmacies in the area that mixes compounds, so my wife has no choice, but to deal with these individuals. If it was my choice I would drive 30 minutes out of my way, rather than dealing with these arrogant people again. Hopefully someone in authority reads this review and helps the staff understand customer service and how bad customers feel when the staff completely ignores you. On March 8th, 2023, I visited the Peoples Rx by Lakeline Mall. Did not know that Peoples is a compounding pharmacy until after my visit. My mission was to obtained information from their wellness side. The store is very boutique. When I walked in, the phamarcy is right there to the left. The employees behind the counter watched me as I entered and crossed in front of them. No one greeted/acknowledged me. There were about 4-5 people working in the Wellness Area. There was a short, round, and dark-haired lady scanning some shelves with a Telxon in the corner area near the restrooms; I went around her twice, no acknowledgement, she watched me though. The other workers behind the register counter spoke among themselves, no acknowledgement, just watched me. I observed them greeting other customers that walked in after me. Finally, I heard, "Can I help you?," so I turned around and it was KEN who spoke. I told him yes but it felt like it was an obligation. His body was facing towards the other customer that came in after me; he helped me for a little bit (maybe 10 mins?) but excused himself to go help that other customer. KEN never came back to help me thoroughly even though he said he will; he came by to answer a question and lectured me about a mediterranean diet (2 mins?). I watched him help two other customers before and after that and wondered around the small store. So, I was walking around googling things on my phone to educate myself on what to buy (for almost an hour). Finally, SHERRY? (thin, short, curly-haired lady) came to my rescued. She answered all of my questions and gave me new information (probably 30 mins interaction time). I think she just came back from lunch because she was in the register area when I arrived and then disappeared from the floor. In conclusion, if only KEN completed his assistance with me, instead of profiling me, then I would not have spent such a long time in Peoples Rx. Everyone at that location needs improvement in the customer service department!!! It is a small store that every employee can see customers enter and exit. The check-out area is aligned with the front door and the square footage is probably the size (or maybe a little bit smaller) of the Pink side of Victoria's Secret at Lakeline Mall. Well, after countless visits (over a year battling the same issue!!) to several different MD's, numerous (WRONG) diagnosis' and a small fortune spent in prescriptions/office visits that just did NOT work, I finally decided to go and talk to a Dr. of Naturopathy. Dr. Ken took one look at my problem, and told me what to do. You can imagine how thrilled and amazed I was when, within 24 hours the problem was 85% eradicated. WOW! I had a minor cosmetic procedure on my legs (spider veins lasered) and the post treatment recommendation was for Arnica gel or cream (to reduce redness and bruising). A nice lady at Ulta told me to try this Peoples. I went in and was immediately overwhelmed by natural rememdies, vitamins and supplements. I searched for a bit before a nice gentleman, a pharmacist, asked to help. Didn't catch his name, maybe Ned. He looked like a Ned. I explained what I was having done and what I needed and he showed me the Arnica cream. Then he asked if I'd ever taken Nucleotides and went on to explain that they help repair the body, whether after surgery or for colds or whatever. Then he happily started educating me on vein health, saying, "If you come thru the other side of this thing [I'm thinking, uh, do I need to make a will??], come back and see me. We've got horse wort, conundrum root, and spartacus extract. All great for vein health!" Okokokok, those might not have been his EXACT terms, but he spewed out several crazy sounding supplements and talked to me for about 15 minutes on VEINS. I just looked at Ned and said, "Wow, you are a WEALTH of information!" The gist of this review is that, not only did I get what I came for, but I left with a healthy respect for this friendly pharmacist and a greater curiosity for what other natural remedies I might need in the future. I almost can't wait for my next ailment so I can go consult with him again. Maybe I should woo some mosquitos and see how he'd treat some West Nile Virus. Or go lick the pole at Rick's Cabaret. At any rate, I'm sure he'd listen to my complaints with patience and empathy and set me up with somethin good and good for me. I mean, we all want to go au naturel sometimes! read more

Well, they refill prescriptions well! I can say that much! As a pharmacy, they do a great job. They count pills and put them in bottles. I know there's a whole lot more to being a pharmacist. Fact is, I moved all of my prescriptions to People's because it's a good idea to do so, and the conversations I've had with their pharmacists have been educational and positive. They do compounding too, which is a step up in terms of the need for absolute rigor, precision, quality control, and oversight. So: trust. Their front of the house are super patient too. I'll tell you a story from just yesterday. A woman was talking to one of the staff, complaining that a tincture she bought a couple of days before did not work the very first time she tried it. I got the impression she felt deceived by the sales person. Myself, I had very little experience with tinctures but somehow it was obvious to me that it isn't a two drops under your tongue and you're done situation. The employee was really great in responding to this customer's low key but sort of frantic distress, and did her best to educate the customer about how CBD and tinctures in general work to begin with. It's ALMOST as if she had a whole lot of experience handling complaints about super trendy expensive naturopathic products tweeted and vblogged about by twitty Internet influencers, or, worse yet, covered by Dr. (b)Oz(o) or some other daytime TV show, purchased by people who don't even do research or figure out how to use the product properly or even what it supposed to do or how it works. I will tell you, before I went down the CBD route, I did a lot of research. I learn how it works, what makes a quality product, the different methods for making it, how dosing varies from person to person, and what to expect when I started using it. Then I bought the expensive product, I knew what to expect, had some patience, and found it helped to a degree with the challenge I have. Whatever, not everyone does that, and I'm sure People's deals with this all the time. That day, they dealt with it well. So yes. Oh and good lord, I beg you... choose this place over Walgreens or CVS. For real. read more

I am not a big fan of taking lots and lots of medicine. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right? In the spirit of that saying, I like to visit People Pharmacy to get some prevention. They introduced me to Minami PlusEpa fish oils which I now swear by. I also get a B-Complex and some children's vitamins through them and think they are just perfect. I feel good knowing that the quality of the products are the highest possible with as few weird additive as possible. I am super grateful to their educated and helpful staff! I will never come here again. Everytime I come in here I am treated like I'm just bothering everybody. I have come in here every few months to grab supplements, holistic stuff, and some diabetic insulin syringes mostly for my dog medication. It's much cheaper to get them in bulk here then at other apothecary and from the vet itself. Especially when I travel between cities so much this is very convenient. Yet the past few times I've been in here they always are nosy about what I want them for (when I tell them they insist that I need a prescription). Legally you do not need a prescription to buy these and there is nothing in my appearance that would lead them to believe I'm a junkie---but I can feel the judgment every time. Rude! So even though they can't bar me from purchasing these, they denied me being able to get them. This is so freaking rude an inconvenient. I'm not going to get a prescription from out of town from a doctors office that has staff that is notoriously slow that I have to have faxed, when I don't have a fax, and deal with that nightmare. I used to have my prescriptions from my Austin Dr filled here too but will now be going somewhere else. There are too many other pharmacies hear that will be happy to take my business and it's just not worth the convenience of being clowe to home when dealing with these jerks. read more

I've been to Peoples Rx a few times now and while I understand that they may be loved by many because they're pretty good at what they do - but there is just no excuse for the way they treated me today. I was out riding my motorcycle with all my gear on. I have a herniated disc and my back had been hurting all day. I stopped in when I happen to see they were open. I asked a nice young lady what she would suggest for back pain with a herniated disc at C6. She passed me on to an older gentleman who happened to walk by me. I asked him about my back pain and he said he couldn't help me. I was surprised and confused. He then said that his chiropractor was not around. I said "okay - I can come back". He didn't respond. I then asked when I should come back. He said "he won't be back until Monday" and walked away from me to stock the shelves. I followed him and said "I have another question - my dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes and was wondering what you recommend for that." He responded "a physician"...which is really weird to me...But i could see where he's coming from. Then I mentioned that he was in fact seeing a VA doctor. At this point he started mumbling and said something about how pointless it would be to talk to me about some form of salt that I couldn't hear under the mumbling. He was extremely rude about it and in retrospect I wonder if the whole conversation was intended to be cold and rude. I guess he just couldn't handle a leather bound biker walking into his store. The funny thing is that I'm a top software engineer for Yodle, have studied medicine for a few years and even aced my last chemistry final. I'm just not a typical tech guru/nerd. I just happened to look like a biker on this day and this guy treated me like trash because of it. read more

This Peoples location is big on customer service. While they aren't the largest location (that would be Westlake), they are pretty well stocked on vitamins and other supplements, and their compounding pharmacy staff is constantly busy filling orders. If they don't have something you need, they usually can order it, either from another of their Austin locations or from a supplier. I've found their staff to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They offer health consultations and seminars as well. People's has a customer loyalty program that earns you points for purchases and then mails you a coupon for $$ off your next purchase (anything but prescriptions) in increments of $10. They also have an online purchasing option and ship out of town. Besides compounded prescriptions, they also can fill a lot of regular prescriptions, and they now will file on your insurance for you. They are not affiliated with the People's Clinic...which is what I thought the first time I heard their name. Weird name, awesome place. read more

Modern medicine can be a wonderful thing. ...But have you been to the doctor several times over some irritating complaint? Want to try something new, but don't know where to start? Well, look no further for good, kind, experienced advice. I have had gastrointestinal issues my entire life. Though the main problems were remedied by surgery, I still had issues with fatigue that persisted. One day I pulled in to the People's Pharmacy on a whim, and it changed my life. They suggested a change in diet and found me a guidebook to follow, showed me an iron supplement I could take with no stomach irritation (I didn't think one existed!), and even sent me home with some gluten-free foods from the refrigerated case. I stuck to the changes they suggested and had an increase in my energy level. My daughter has pretty bad seasonal allergy problems. After dragging her to the doctor a few times - and to Walgreens for OTC allergies remedies that didn't work - I brought her here, where the pharmacist recommended a supplement that reduced her symptoms more than anything we'd previously tried. I've never been greeted here by less than a big smile, and more than once my daughter has walked out with some free fresh fruit for a snack. So come here and ask those nagging health questions. Many of the products are found cheaper online, but there is something to be said about face-to-face contact. This review is for the Wellness Center. I had an appointment at 9am to get my A1c checked. I arrived right on time but the nurse was late due to traffic. Understandable in Austin. I explained I needed to be done by 9:25 in order to take my son to the doctor. The nurse said this should be no problem and walked off. I then sat in the waiting room with no feedback from the staff on when I would be able to complete my testing. I heard multiple conversations happening down the hall. I finally left after 15 minutes. As a nurse myself I don't appreciate it when people aren't respectful of my time. I also stopped on the pharmacy next door and was ignored for several minutes at the cash register while waiting to check out. Someone finally came over and rang up my purchase. I definitely prefer the location on Lamar; it's unfortunate that this is the location closest to me now. read more

Peoples pharmacy was once an expensive but well stocked place with very helpful staff. A couple of years ago I accompanied my sister to the North Austin store at Lakeline. She consulted with a staff member about what she might do for her migraine headaches. The person spent atleast fifteen minutes with her and was very helpful, and my sister bought several products, and I've heard no more about the headaches; I guess they helped. However, today, I both visited the store on North Lamar, and phoned the store at Lakeline. At North Lamar, the consultant was rude and brusque. I needed a natural estrogen vaginal product for post-menopausal atrophic vaginitis, which affects something like 30% of all post menopausal women. The woman refused to discuss anything on the shelf, told me I needed to talk to the pharmacist about prescription products, then pretty much took a product out of the refrigerator in her office and threw it at me. She wouldn't tell me how much estrogen it has in it. Eventually she did throw two numbers at me - and at home when I got online I learned that she got the amount of estrogen in the strength I took wrong. It contains 2 mg not 3 mg. What is more, the usual dose of estriol for this problem is 1/2 mg a day, not 3 mg a day. She wouldn't discuss possible alternatives to hormone therapy. When I phoned the North Austin store, the person who answered the phone insisted she was only allowed to spend 7 minutes on the phone with me, but wasted much of it refusing to answer my questions, failing to know the answer to my questions, asking me if I am taking fish oil and vitamin D, telling me to take herbs I'm allergic to, and telling me to go to some sort of alternative medical school because what I really need is acupuncture. Neither she nor the manager I talked with had a clue what was in any product; the one product they recommended to me turned out to contain progesterone instead of estrogen. read more

My father has been experiencing symptoms that closely resemble dementia (forgetfulness, paranoia, confusion, etc.), which has had me absolutely sick with worry. This is not an easy thing to deal with, especially with doctor/patient confidentiality rules being the way they are. Fortunately, however, I was able to discreetly communicate my concerns to his doctor, who ran a series of tests. And sure enough, he had a severe vitamin B12 deficiency. With his lab results in hand, I headed off to Peoples Pharmacy, knowing they would take good care of me, and answer any questions that I may have. I was wrong. I wish I knew the name of the person who helped me, because I would like to call her out as one of the most overbearing, unqualified people I have ever come across. I told her about my concerns, and she proceeded to guide me around the store and load me up with a bunch of products that really had nothing to do with my visit (which were also incredibly expensive). She sneered at my dad's doctor's recommendations, mainly because they were conventional and not holistic. She then looked at his lab work and said "what does Lisinopril do?". After explaining it, she proceeded to load me up with some alternatives. Folks, this isn't just lousy customer service- this is absolutely dangerous. This person was actually undermining a medical doctor's recommendations- and to make matters worse, she seemingly had no educational background that qualified her to make the statements that she did. If I had actually followed her advice, my dad would be off of prescription medication altogether and they would be replaced by parasite cleanses and God knows what else. After gracefully exiting the store, I proceeded to head over to GNC, at Lakeline Mall. Fantastic experience- the person there was knowledgeable and made a concerted effort to complement my dad's regular diet/medicine with supplements that he actually needed. My husband and I visited today to talk to the nutritionist. We started the Paleo diet, and wanted to ask if there are any nutrients we may be missing as a result. She listened to us and guided us, not ever once trying to sell us anything (although we did buy two different items as a result of our conversation, but only because we wanted to). She calls herself a "holistic nutritionist" and a "minimalist". We really liked her approach and her guidance as to what we may and may not need.
