I called Marshall who examined the car visually and confirmed that the manifolds needed replacing. He then gave me a price that was less than a third of the most expensive quote and less than a half of the cheapest quote. Apparently, it was a pig of a job but he just laughed when I got the car back. The work was excellent. Marshall is a true mechanic and knows exactly what he's doing and so I was extremely happy with his work. However, it was not just the quality of his work that impressed me. He had a real easy opportunity to make a few hundred pounds extra by quoting me more for the manifolds than i had been quoted by my previous searches. He knew what the cheapest price was that I could get them for and yet, after managing to get them much cheaper, he told me what he got them for... £1,100 cheaper !! Not only is he a really great mechanic and a trophy winning drifter (racing cars) but he is a real honest tradesman. I would highly recommend his work, his knowledge but also his honesty. Booked a full service and MOT at Halfords Strood. My car failed its MOT test (which I knew it would…read moreas it needed a new front tyre which I told them about when I dropped my car off). Was given an expensive quote for a tyre, told them I don't usually pay that much. Was informed if I order one online it would be much cheaper but would not be able to fitted until the next day. As I needed my car for work the next day I went ahead with the double the price tyre and was assured my car would have the repairs and service done by the end of the day, only to be told because of a lack of technicians my car wouldn't be ready until the following morning. So my experience with Halfords Strood was a rather unpleasant one. Not only was I waiting around for 5 hours in an area I'm not local to with the promise my car would be finished that afternoon, I had to pay a more expensive price for a tyre which I needn't had to if I new it wasn't going to be fitted on the day and would have bought a cheaper one to be fitted the next day (the day my car was ready to collect) and I was left out of pocket because I was unable to get to work the next day as I was left without a car. All in all the loss in wages, the extra money on the more expensive tyre and the price of public transport getting home and back the next day amounted to the same price of the service itself. A fellow work colleague had the exact same problem with this test centre at the beginning of the year. When asked if any discount or compensation would be given the answer was no. Rude and unhelpful staff. Avoid if possible.
