Pension Baronesse…read more The best part about the Pension Baronesse in Vienna, Lange Gasse 61 is the location. The bed and breakfast is within easy walk to the 1. Bezirk where many of the most famous sights are and close to much of Viennna' s excellent public transportation. That said, the bed and breakfast itself has drawbacks: it is somewhat run-down and the lack of thorough cleaning does not help the situation. The cleaning crew does the daily minimum like making the beds and replacing the towels, but that is it. When construction in a building across the courtyard caused much dust during my stay, there were no steps taken to clean more thoroughly. Rooms are non-smoking, but some of the cleaning staff smoke on a small balcony with smoke getting into the building. There is only one room key available for each room with the idea being that guests drop their keys when they leave the hotel and pick them up when they come back. This practice is impractical to say the least, especially for guests in the same room, but with different plans for the day. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day, but there is a lack of communication. For example, there was no effort made to inform us of the upcoming construction and a fire alarm going off remained unexplained. Enjoy Vienna, but try finding somewhere else to stay.

Louis R is back in the building…read more Louis R loves Austrian hotels that only have 24 rooms, has beautiful architecture, has large organized rooftop rooms with large sky lights and a balcony overlooking the garden, large clean bathrooms with a bidet, delicious breakfast options, a clean spa, and prompt, affable service. Louis R loves the proximity of this hotel to the Underground and to the city center (located in District 3). Vienna, Austria is just as lucky to have famous/infamous iconic figures roll through it's city streets, like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaston Glock, Sigmund Freud, Adolf Hitler, Franz Schubert, Christoph Waltz and Louis R. Perfect spot to stay in Vienna!…read more First of all, I want to highlight how wonderful and accommodating Ulla Spiess is! I may have been a bit of a difficult visitor after I wanted to swtich rooms. Ulla was accommodating and wonderful about everything. She's also quite nice and really friendly. I visited this spot recently and it really is a super spot to stay in Vienna. It is approximately 3 stops from the "center" of town (depending on what you consider the center) and it's really easy to navigate the trains. The location that the B&B is in is really quaint and there are local restaurants nearby as well, so you don't have to travel to the more touristy area. Ulla had a great restaurant recommendation for my first night there (delicious and inexpensive!). I stayed four nights and had a great time. I was in two rooms while I was there (my fault that I moved). Both rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. The breakfast area is really charming and there is an area that has glass windows where you can feel like you are eating in the garden. The food is really great and fresh. Cheeses, meats, cereals, juices, pastries...I could go on and on. The made to order scrambled eggs are great, too! Coffee is delicious! Everyone is really helpful and they really make you feel like you are staying in their home. The B&B is expanding - I'm not sure when everything will be open, but there may be more room options soon. Boutique hotel. I felt like it was a room in the palace for the royals. The decor certainly had…read morethat feel with the red carpet and chairs along with the pearl white and chandelier crystal decor. The rooms were big. Beds were 2 in one, full put together for kings. The windows open to let out the stuffiness. No AC and the fan doesn't work... the one thing we hated was they didn't have black out curtains. So when the sun rose, it was nice and bright for you... that's your alarm clock. Breakfast was good. Except I felt like you couldn't talk because it was smaller and everyone didn't talk. You sit and the server ask you if you want eggs and bacon and coffee. The rest of the stuff you can get yourself. Deli meats, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, bread. It was a pretty good breakfast. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating!
