My friend's daughter had her 7th birthday party here and it was great!! The place was very easy to find, with ample parking in the pasture. All the horses look healthy and well taken care off, The party package includes a horse ride, walking the miniature horse, a petting zoo and crafting time. Everything was well organized and adults were having as much as the kiddos. The staff were amazing!! I got my car stuck in the wet mud and they helped me pull it out!! Yay!! This facility is beautiful so it is a shame that the people who run and operate out of it are so rude and unknowledgeable when it comes to horses. They are terrible at communication and do not know the first thing about proper horse care. They change hay what seems to be every two weeks (which is already unhealthy for the horses) but on top of that the hay quality is horrible a majority of the time. The arenas are not dragged nearly as often as they need to be, the footing in the large outdoor arena gets very packed and there are tons of rocks in it, and the indoor arena footing is deep in some areas however if it was actually dragged it would be fine. I have known multiple horses that have taken a slight misstep in the deep indoor arena footing and injured themselves. The pastures are beautiful but they are mowed down to nothing so the horses don't have much to eat and if a horse plays in the pasture it is taken back to its stall immediately since the guy in charge does not want the pastures to be damaged what so ever... A majority of the workers that are hired have ZERO experience handling horses. It is very hard to trust that they are doing what is asked of them when it comes to a horse. There have been many times when my horse did not receive her supplements. There were also many times where they forgot to feed a horse it's morning or nighttime hay. The owners who are there daily, Bob and Julie, are probably the most unprofessional and just downright shady people I have met. They talk about people behind their backs and whenever we saw each other in passing would blatantly ignore me most of the time. The few times I attempted to discuss my horse's care with them they either did nothing about it or told me they were doing it when clearly they were not. They also sell stalls out from under people they don't like or who are to "demanding" when it comes to their horse. They cut costs EVERYWHERE even if it effects horses. Anyone who tries to point out something they are doing wrong is immediately blacklisted by the owners and workers. During the last few weeks I was at the facility my trainer was told she was not allowed to water the outdoor arena so we rode in the hot dust for the beginning of the summer, this combined with the horrible footing made my horse's rehab very difficult. I would never trust anyone here to care for my horse again. The only thing that is great about this place is that the tack lockers are huge! These photos are from when there was confusion about the departure date of my lease horse. She was put in this stall for the last month of winter. The mud quickly became very deep and there was no drainage whatsoever so the water collected everywhere. When I spoke to the owner about doing something about this he said he would look into it but it was not until 2 weeks later that two mats were stacked up inside. Although a trainer suggested they use the tractor to scape the mud out and lay down bark, the suggestion was ignored. The mats helped for only a few days but just sunk right to the bottom of the mud. Nothing else was offered and I ended up having to shovel out what I could every night and pile it outside the fencing myself. read more

We hosted our daughter's birthday party here and were so happy with it! Julie and Bob were so kind and great with the kids. They made sure everyone had a fun time and learned about horses, ponies and miniatures. So fun! We did pony rides, fed the petting zoo and walked the miniatures (we paid to have the unicorn experience which was a HUGE hit with the kids). They also offer a train ride. The planned activities lasted an hour then they turned the party to us for the last 1.5 hours. It was great having the play area for the kids and also being able to watch the horses in the pastures. There is a fridge available for you to keep food chilled. Plenty of party space and seating. A place to wash hands. And a portapotty. I highly recommend hosting your child's birthday here. My grandbaby, Liberty, had the most amazing third birthday here on Saturday! The stable owners, Julie & Bob, could not have been more accommodating. Be sure to check out the photos and video if I'm able to upload them. The stables are located in Penryn just off Sierra College near King Road on the Rock Hill Winery exit. The grounds are gorgeous and one could even have a wedding here. I believe Julie said there were 20 acres. You're allowed to bring in your own food/decorations and they have a several covered areas with tables and plenty of seating. My daughter Ashley worked so hard that the birthday party resembled a wedding. When the kids got there they rode a full sized horse - Julie took Liberty and let her pick the horse she wanted to ride, do a craft - painted a picture frame, petting zoo, all the kids got to walk a Shetland pony around in a pen, food, cake, presents, ride the train and then we finished off with a piñata (we brought). Julie keeps the party moving because it's so packed full of awesomeness. I could not recommend this more highly I would give it 12 stars if I could. Tips: If you want your guests to be able to ride a horse you, need to be there promptly or they will miss it as this is the first activity and understandably this is a well planned event packed full of fun so if you snooze, you lose. If you are squeamish about wearing someone else's riding helmet, you can bring your own bike helmet or you can use theirs. I think Liberty used theirs with no issues. They have a refrigerator and freezer if you need one. Final note: I read some negative reviews on here where someone said they animals were not taken care of or something like that. We saw no signs of this. Julie & Bob are great people and we are so happy to call them our new friends. read more

We celebrated my daughter's 5th birthday here in July. All our guests were in "AWE" with the activities and the location. Kids had a blast and so did all the adults watching them. A big shout out to Julie and family of Penryn Oaks Stables for organizing such a memorable event. Julie was very interactive with all the kids and kept them engaged all through the event. Kids got to ride a horse, walk miniature horse, feed the animals, do Kraft work and go on a exciting train ride. I boarded my horse here for a year. Facility offers: horse boarding, equestrian center activities, horse back riding for kids & adults, trainers for lessons, for both human and horses. 2 outdoor and one covered arena. Owners get involved with community. Offer holiday activities. Many events geared toward kids. Facilities are rather dusty and worn down in places. This is a big BARN (as horse folks call stables), over 70 horses reside here - so maintenance of this large property is a daunting task. Horse boarding and training prices are competitive. Monthly board for one horse is $450. Nice people work here, the horse owner crowd is down home friendly. This is not a wealthy barn with snooty members. Just a bunch of horse lovers who share time together. read more

Julie and Bob were so great with the kids and really made it a unique, fun birthday experience. We had guests ranging in age from 16 months through 12 years and I can honestly say that each child had something fun and engaging to do. If I could give zero stars I would. There are 3 arenas that are not manicured nearly as often as they need to be. This has caused multiple horses to injure themselves and be out of work for sometimes several months. The owners didn't make any effort to fix the arenas or ever ask about the horses. The round pen fencing is very dangerous as well. It was not until a horse fatally injured itself that more boards were put up so the horses could not step out and get stuck. The stalls are not cleaned well at all and the stall mats are uneven and folded on top of each other which is very dangerous for the horses. It took multiple conversations about this for the mats too be fixed. The horse's waters buckets are not cleaned regularly so they are covered with algae. There were a couple of workers who would smoke on the property and around the horses. Not to mention the owners of this facility are rude and unprofessional. They don't properly fulfill any extra tasks that you ask to be done for your horses and when you ask multiple times they seem annoyed about it. They are only friendly to the clients they like and seem to talk about the ones they do not to the other clients. This facility is great for the first week or so, but once you begin to make any requests they want nothing to do with you or your horse. read more

DO NOT BOARD YOUR HORSE HERE!! If I could give Penryn Oaks Stables 0 stars I would. Nobody who works on the property has sufficient experience taking care of horses as the arena footing is HORRIBLE, the hay is poor quality and the stalls are ATROCIOUS, especially during winter. Not to mention, Bob is racist. Whether he means to be or not, he approached me to discuss my work (in sports) and the first thing out of his mouth was that my boss (a famous athlete who happens to be black) is "an idiot and doesn't give back to society at all." UNTRUE. He then continued to generalize this statement by extending it to black athletes as a whole. This behavior is unacceptable, so I told him how wrong he was... the conversation persisted for at least an hour and extended to his belief that sexism, especially against women in the work place, doesn't exist because "he's never witnessed it." Don't board here or hire his washer/dryer/fence repair businesses either. My mom accidentally called for an estimate and he was gloating to her about how he "doesn't hire Mexicans, so it's quality work." She clearly didn't hire him either. Absolutely repugnant. read more

We had our daughter's 6th birthday party at Penryn Oaks Stables and we were absolutely thrilled and happy! All the guests told us the same. It was a big hit with the kids. They loved all the activities - pony rides, walking the mini horses, craft, petting animals and the carriage ride. The hosts - Julie and Bob - were fantastic. Couldn't have asked for more. They were very kind, accommodating and friendly. The details of the day are pretty much the same as the other reviewers. Julie starts the day and moves the kids from one activity to another - along with Bob's help. Though we ask the guests to come in time and follow all the rules, there will be one who always does different and the great thing about Julie/Bob is - they are happy to go a bit extra way for those drifters. So kind! Needless to say - we were very very happy with the birthday party. If you are thinking of having a party at this place, we definitely recommend them. We hosted our son's second birthday party here a few weeks ago. The coordinator, Janice, was friendly, attentive and interacted with all our guests while keeping the party moving. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere as well as the party extras (petting farm, pony rides, train, horse drawn carriage, and art project). The staff were great with the kids, and seemed to have a real connection with the horses. I can't say how the stables operate in terms of boarding a horse, but I can say that the property seemed fairly well kept up, and the animals looked healthy. Would I go so far as to say that a 2 year old's birthday party was relaxing?!? It was! I could have stayed there for hours. I really enjoyed myself, as did our guests. read more
