This is an abstract mural that sits directly across from the Federal Building. It was painted by Erik Pearson in 2011 as part of the 46 for XLVI mural initiative, sponsored by Arts Council of Indianapolis.
This piece has an interesting story and the artist really did his homework. The mural gets it name from the building it is on, the Pennway Building. There is a man in a wheelchair in the mural that represents former Indiana
Governor Oliver Morton, whose home stood where the Pennway building stands now. There is also a man playing the piano in the mural. In keeping with its theme, the mural gives a nod to companies that had previously establish their headquarters in the building including: American Radiator Company, Gregory & Appel Insurance, The Cable-Nelson Piano Company, Story & Clark Pianos, and Shoemaker Smith Auto.
Well, there is metered street parking available near the mural or you could probably pull up in front of the building, get out and take a look real quick. This is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 3 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the wonderful murals in the area, and the sculpture right in front of it, to maximize your time and trip. read more
