My prior review and experience is very outdated…read more When do you speak up? When do you ponder the silence? I am Quaker so in the local Quaker community I learn much about current Westtown teacher and student experiences, and I have sent my child to summer camp here (it is not exclusive to matriculating students but it usually is 99.9% matriculating students) and unfortunately it reflected the opinions below. As someone from my Meeting said, "Don't send your child to Westtown; it's turned so snobby and no Quakers go there anymore." As another local Quaker (whose child attended and left) said, "It's been bought out by nouveau riche with no values and major snobbery." Elitism is the antithesis of the Quaker belief that everyone is equal. I was saddened and surprised to hear that about a school I never thought would condone it. I've spoken with staff holding the same opinion in recent years. Does this cherished institution that has stood for so much good suddenly need endowment more than integrity? That's not how I was raised. I know only one parent of an upper school student, who is happy with the school, but she is getting a steep aid package and she is not Quaker so she isn't looking for Quaker values. It's a shame. I practice integrity and the other SPICES, which should be a fit. (No, we did not apply but I'm sad to think we never will given how things have changed.) My family has a long legacy at this school but new money seems to be the priority.

Beautiful campus, especially in the fall!…read more Sports fields are large and spread out, but no netting so balls get lost into the woods and/or roll down the hill - away from the hill.

School diggers If you want to move to WCASD to get away from…read morebullying. DON'T. We moved from DE however, would never have moved here if we knew about the culture of the district. Facts about bullying. (1) Nationally accepted statistics: 1 in 5 or 20% of all children are bullied in school. (2) 20 percent of WCASD 11,500 students equals 2,300 students. (3) On average, 492 (29%) WCASD Parents/Guardians Surveyed in 2014, 15, 16 & 17 said their child(ren) were bullied. (4) In the following years (2014, 15, 16 & 17), WCASD reported to the PA Safe School Act, the following # of bullying incidents: Year. # of incidents 2017: 5 2016: 1 2015: 1 2014: 0 (5) WCASD drastically under reported bullying incidents to the State of PA. Why? (6) Superintendent, Dr. Scanlon, has stated that WCASD definition of bullying differs from the definition which parents, guardians envision as bullying. Does Dr. Scanlon & the WCASD have the right to tell us that our child has not been bullied when by our definition they have been bullied? "About 71 percent of school shooters felt "persecuted, bullied, threatened, attacked or injured" leading up to their rampage, according to Secret Service data." "A few school shooters have even acknowledged bullying as a driving force behind their attack." (a) Newsweek. Before you move to WCASD, do your homework. Just because a district has a reputation for students to getting high grades does not always mean it is a Great School District.
