Think of Penn Park as the City of York's "Central Park". It's a fairly large (by York standards) open space, anchored by the high school for the School District of the City of York. The area surrounding the park has had its ups and downs over the years.
According to an article from the York Daily Record newspaper, Penn Park was York's first public park. In 1816, the then- Borough of York received the land from William Penn heirs.
There are basketball and tennis courts, a playground, a splash pad, and various historical statues/plaques. In the spring/summer, all kinds of events are held here. Parking is free street parking on the streets around the park. read more
