Walking in and leaving with a smile is important, but at age 75 I've had two different dentists…read morecost me $4,000 each, 60 and 45 years later; they are no longer practicing. But I've also had a serious stroke, which brings me to my point. A person who has had a serious stroke must find a restorative dentist who does the right thing, the first time, every time. I found Dr. Gurski. She's married now, but Kathy has been making me smile for 30 years. First at the practice she started with after graduating as a DMD, then at the Kenhorst location she rented when she established her own practice, now at the beautiful building at 601 Lancaster Avenue which has Kathie's special touch. One other thing: If you expect personal treatment from any doctor, surgeon or dentist, you must be considerate of the provider's schedule. I arrive early for all appointments. I don't know how they do it, but I seldom wait more than 5 minutes before being seen... sometimes I don't even get to sit down. Ha, ha. The dental hygienist, or Dr. Kathy, sees me in the waiting room (or sees that I am there on a computer display) and comes out to greet me and invites me to come in.

I did my research and I saw so many good reviews for this place that I felt confident I would be…read morehappy and comfortable going there. My first appointment went pretty good and the hygienist was very nice. At this point I met Dr. D'Agostino who told me I had cavities. He suggested I get the 2 on the one side of my mouth done at the same time and I agreed that it sounded like a good idea. I used to have a fear of dentists because as a teenager I had some very horrible experiences, but over the years I was totally over that fear - or so I thought. The day comes to have my cavities filled and it went horribly wrong. First, I didn't realize I would need 2 Novocain shots since that was never explained to me so I was a bit upset about that and then when the drilling started I felt I needed a little break to catch my breath. At this point I was literally yelled at and told that in all his 30 years of practice he has never had to be on egg shells with anyone like me, I should never have scheduled to have 2 cavities done at the same time, he wasnt going to even finish and he didn't want me coming back. I was literally stunned. If you are like me and do have a fear at all or uncomfortable going to a dentist you really should find another place like I had to.

This office is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. The desk personnel is constantly courteous,…read moreprofessional and organized. Both of my daughters love Dr Blackburn as he has a warm, interactive and fun personality which instantly makes them feel at ease, even with complicated procedures. They have not expressed any apprehension or resistance in to going to the dentist since they have begun with Dr Blackburn which is well worth the cost to me even if his office is not within the network of my dental insurance plan. Dr Blackburn is not only a personable professional; he is also one who has extensive experience implemented into the quality to his services. He and his staff are knowledgeable, capable, and efficient. They provide a quality experience from the moment you enter the spacious home-like atmosphere of a waiting room, the comfort of private exam rooms and the finished friendly checkout process. You feel like a valued patient from beginning to end. COVID precautions are implemented by this office as masks are required unless in the exam/procedure process. Hand sanitizer is available and easily accessible. Social distancing is easy in the waiting area and staggered appointment schedules. Temperatures are taken for patients and screening questions are asked of everyone. Based on our family's overall experience, from start to finish (and ongoing) we all highly recommended Dr Blackburn and his staff! No other dentist will come close to providing the quality work and personal experience as you will find here.

This experience was unfair and I want to share it…read more On Tuesday, I had a dental appointment at 12:00 PM. The day before, my daughter had just returned from an international trip, and we were staying with family in Delaware. Even though she was exhausted from traveling, I drove back that morning so I wouldn't miss my appointment. Before I arrived, the office called to let me know there was maintenance being done in their building that they were not aware of, and asked if I could come later. The receptionist who called me was extremely kind and professional. Later, she called again to apologize because the power had gone out and they had to cancel my appointment. I completely understood that it was out of their control. She rescheduled me for Thursday at 10:00 AM. Unfortunately, on Thursday morning, the power went out in my bedroom because of my air conditioner, which caused my alarm to shut off. At 10:07 AM, I received a call asking if I was on my way. I called back at 10:12 and explained what had happened. I told them I live only a few blocks away and could be there in about 7 minutes. The receptionist told me that if I wasn't there within 5 minutes, I would not be seen. I said I understood and asked if I could simply reschedule. She then told me, in a very rude and dismissive tone, that I would have to pay a $50 no-show fee before they would schedule another appointment. I explained that just two days earlier I had been completely understanding when the office had to cancel my appointment because of the power outage, and I hoped they could show me the same understanding over being only about 17 minutes late due to an unexpected power outage at my home. Her response was simply, "Our power went out." I replied, "Mine did too." I also expressed that I felt it was very unfair to be charged the fee under these circumstances and that, given how the situation was being handled, I would not be returning to the office. Unfortunately, there was no empathy or willingness to work with me. I want to be clear that Dr. Barb and every hygienist my daughter and I have seen have always been wonderful, caring, and highly professional. This review is not about them. It is about how this particular situation was handled by the receptionist I spoke with on Thursday. My daughter and I have always respected this office and have never missed an appointment. In fact, there was even a time when we were both sick, and instead of canceling at the last minute, I called ahead to let the office know so they could take extra precautions to protect everyone. We still kept our appointment because we value their time. I understand that offices have policies, but I believe policies should also allow room for reasonable circumstances and the same understanding that patients are expected to show the office. After everything that happened earlier that week, I was disappointed by the lack of compassion and flexibility.
