This stuff you can see for yourself if you visit but I wanted to comment on the staff. All the staff at Cogir have been geniunely fantastic but I wanted to give a mention to Priscila Sellers. My mom was just starting the process of moving in and we hadn't even signed the paperwork, when she ended up falling and going to the hospital. Due to the situation, she was released directly to Cogir. Priscila was really a rockstar, everything was taken care of. She busted her butt to get movers the next day, elevated care taking that night, and even arranged for my mom to stay in a guest suite while we worked on moving her stuff. I'm sure she was doing other stuff I'm not even aware of. She is really hard working and very good at her job. Thank you to everyone at Cogir! I feel my mom is in good hands.

The agreement, scope, and pricing were clearly discussed and approved in advance. Unfortunately, before final payment was completed, the Director who hired me was let go. Since then, new management has refused to honor the original agreement in full. Despite providing documentation, proof of approval, and fulfillment of the work exactly as requested, I was only partially paid and am still owed $1,400. It's disappointing to complete a high-level, time-intensive project in good faith--especially for a major event--and then have a company refuse to take responsibility for the commitments made by their own leadership. This isn't just about payment--it's about integrity. Vendors should be able to trust that businesses will honor their agreements, regardless of internal staffing changes. I would strongly caution other artists and vendors to ensure full payment upfront before working with this organization.

Due to declining health of a relative, I have had more interaction with the staff and found them to be responsive, caring, empathetic, friendly. Sometimes the cleaning staff does unwittingly throw away esoteric, specialty food given by friends & relatives to my resident relative since the staff is not sure of its shelf lIfe, but the complaint by my relative's earlier claims of missing personal items possibly by staff members now seem to be unsubstantiated. Overall, Spring presently is a desirable assisted living home. The residents are from middle class backgrounds so there is an air of civility and dignity. The facilities are clean with a comfortable "living room" for residents to gather for directed activities & occasional entertainment. My past review and others' reviews were not as complimentary, but under Linda Hiles and the amenable staff, I feel Spring would be good to look into for an assisted living situation. We also were concerned that just taking tours with a sales person was misleading. We were aware that people were leaving one failed facility and going to another with the hope of better treatment. We felt uncertain about leaving our beautiful home and moving into this unknown world. We have been at Cogir of South Bay for just over a month. We are going no further. We are here to stay! We are both overjoyed with our decision. Each day brings us a dining room with our new friends. We all have learned to expect a tasty and attractive looking meal will be presented to us. In our past we only dined so well on special occasions at our favorite expensive restaurants. At dinner time I get my wine. Instead of sleeping in late and watching lots of TV, we attend the 9:30 AM exercise classes in the gym or outside alongside the pool. In addition, we now do our weekly exercises at 1:30 PM inside the heated pool when the sun is strongest. Today the pool water temperature was over 90oF and the air was 73oF. The pool exercises included music and aquatic hardware to enhance our experience. I love my daily swim. Thursdays, before dinner, there is always going to be a singer who performs alongside the bar and also comes up to each of us seated at our table. It already started. We enjoyed our drink from the bar, snacks from the side table, and a bouquet of flowers on our table. A resident took the microphone from the performer and did a few songs that he mastered during his singing lessons. Two couples got up and danced. One of the assistants working for Cogir took the microphone and sang Edith Piaf's famous song and sang it French. My hands were sore with all the applause. There is an exercise room loaded with weights and other typical hardware that I use, a game room where we learned how to play adult dominoes, and an arts and crafts room where my wife just painted a silk scarf under the supervision of a guest artist. And all that was in the past few days. We enjoy the trees, shrubbery and plants that surround every area. They were each planted at their full size. It is a pretty scene when we look down at the grounds from our balcony, day or night. When there is a breeze, it is even more enjoyable. We have a pantry, refrigerator, freezer, stove and microwave that we have not yet used. Why shop, cook and clean-up when your meals are prepared for you? I store my socks and underthings in the empty food pantry. We no longer have monthly TV, electricity, gas, and garbage pickup expenses. Since this place is brand new and all expenses are included, we don't worry about scheduled maintenance and surprise repair bills typical of our 50-year old home. Since I was an engineer I focused on the material parts of Cogir. What make this place run smoothly are the executive director and her staff. The Matre D' in the dining room makes each meal personal. My wife lives in the second-floor Haven - advanced Alzheimer's - community. We have yet to meet a staff member who is not competent and courteous and caring. My wife has reached the point where she has become wheelchair bound. The staff quickly assembled the chair I bought for her. There were difficulties in doing so, but they persisted instead of letting responsibility fall back on me. I greatly appreciate what they did. I am not the least bit mechanically inclined; I have trouble setting my watch. More importantly, they trained her in wheelchair use and safety, always patient, encouraging, and friendly. In my own case, I was recently informed that a room will become available in early April that will be substantially less expensive than the one I now occupy, and I will move into it then. My point is that the Kensington realizes how expensive memory care and assisted living can be and strives to ease the financial burden on its residents whenever the opportunity presents itself. I am also compelled to mention the first-class medical monitoring and care that followed my return to the Kensington after two weeks in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery. The Kensington's quality is self-evident. I regularly meet new residents whose families had originally placed them in a different local facility and then later decided to move them here. If you have a loved one who needs residential care, I cannot strongly enough recommend the Kensington. Gary Hartzell

A friend of my mothers suggested that we investigate Silverado Rolling Hills after doing 1 month of in-home care, very expensive, and 1 month at a board & care facility, not enough stimulation, and interaction. I am so glad we did. Why the 5-star rating: 1. Safety: Mom feels safe here. She feels she can express her needs; she is seen and is heard. 2. Mental health: Mom has a smile again and back to her sharp wit. 3. Staff: The staff at Silverado RH are terrific. From the front desk crew to maintenance crew, to care caregivers to the activities team to the administrator, everyone is nice, compassionate, competent, and really do care for the residents. I can reach out anytime of day and get a quick answer and get pictures of mom every few days without even asking. 4. Cleanliness: I have yet to drop in on my mom and find her or the facility dirty or the lingering odor of urine. They clean every day, paint walls when they get scuffed by wheelchairs/walkers and make sure any messes are picked up quickly. 5. Activities: There is always something going on, painting with watercolors, live music, wine tasting, drum circle, flower arranging, outside excursions, chair aerobics, bingo, lecture series, manicures, face masks, the list goes on. 6. Community: when you visit, you get to know other residents and their families. The common theme is that their LO is also happy and thriving at Silverado RH. 7. Food: delicious. Friends and family members can join their LO for a meal at no cost. Just give them a heads up and they will save you a seat. 8. Pricing: one price, every month, not ala carte options like many other residents. Only extra cost is for the incontinence package if you opt in for that. Bottom line, mom is thriving, has a great team around her, she feels safe and enjoys her roommate and other residents, some which are birds and dogs. And our family has peace of mind knowing that she is well taken care of. Thank you Silverado Rolling Hills team for helping her and us through this journey.

Timeline of Events and Observations: September 2024: Mom was admitted to the Cerise facility. At the time of admission, she was ambulatory, verbally communicative, and able to feed herself independently. She was capable of walking to a nearby park, approximately one mile roundtrip, without assistance or incident. Two female caregivers were present at the time of admission. October-November 2024: Mom began experiencing incontinence. By November, the staff had changed, and a male house manager named Jun had assumed a supervisory role. During this time, there were no issues reported with bathing or showering. We were not notified of the staff change until after it was completed. December 2024: Jun requested an in-person meeting to recommend placing our mother on hospice care, citing difficulty with incontinence care. Following this meeting, I consulted our mother's mobile physician, who confirmed that she was not a candidate for hospice care. Based on that assessment, arrangements were made for more regular visits by the mobile doctor. January 2025: During a visit, I observed that our mother had a visible bruise near her eye. No prior notification of this injury was provided by the facility. When questioned, staff reported that the cause was "unknown." A photo of the bruise was reviewed by our mother's physician, who estimated that the injury appeared to be 3-4 days old at the time the photo was taken. This incident was reported to the LA County but the date of the ombudsman visit was scheduled for late March. February 2025: Staff continued to communicate their concerns about mom during her diaper changes. Additional medication was introduced to manage these concerns, reportedly at the recommendation of Jun and a caregiver named Sarita. The weekend caregiver, who had been present since September, stated that she did not have difficulty managing incontinence care and did not observe problematic behavior. Sarita noted that our mother had improved by the end of February. Jun reported that her behavior remained unchanged. March 2025: Following medication adjustments, our mother became bedbound for nearly a week. The prescribing physician reduced the medication dosage after it was observed to cause tremors and impact her mobility. During this period, she sustained a knee bruise, for which I was notified. She had difficulty walking and exhibited full-body tremors, which appeared to be related to the prescribed medication. Additional Observations: The decision to place mom in a board-and-care facility was based on the expectation of a more personalized and home-like care environment, with a higher caregiver-to-resident ratio. During unannounced visits, the house manager, Jun, was often not present and reportedly "running errands." Mom's hair was cut without prior notice or consent. The haircut appeared uneven and unprofessional. Mom was the second resident at the Cerise facility after the renovation. Another resident, the first resident, named Tracy, commented on negative interactions with the house manager. The contract with the facility contains an arbitration clause, limiting legal recourse and precluding civil litigation. Each facility is operated as a separate legal entity. While an activities calendar is provided, the observation is that activities were minimal. Aside from occasional participation in October and November, residents were typically indoors without outdoor access or structured engagement.
