I've taken my Australian shepherd here twice for a bath and full cut; the first experience great, the second was with a different "groomer" and was extremely upsetting and disappointing. We are contacting them today to ask to speak the owner. The first groomer did a great job, trimmed and cut her perfectly. My boyfriend took her in yesterday, 5/30/25, asked for the same cut as the first time but to trim the pants a little shorter and the sani area shorter. My dog came back fully clipped/shaved extremely short which is unacceptable for a double coat dog; I would be astounded if this "groomer" actually completed any grooming courses. I am now concerned with the health of my dog as the weather heats up due to losing the natural protective factors of her previous coat to prevent overheating. The "groomer" also wasn't able to trim her nails and cited that my dog couldn't handle it; I've never had a groomer fail to trim her nails. Lastly, she came back with a razor burn-like mark on her under belly, the "groomer" said this was there before which I do not believe. This "groomer" should not be allowed to groom again until completing additional courses and training. I don't recommend this place for grooming. read more

Our small dog was killed by a Husky while staying at this pet lodge. No supervision while the dogs are in the play yard. Only one person managing 15 dogs. Neglectfully ran business. Very rude owner. We took advantage of the self bathe service. Jennifer was so nice and helpful. There are two bathtubs with steps and one blow dryer between them. Plenty of towels every shampoo available and ready. Prices are very reasonable. Our large dog shakes off a lot and the tub is slippery for her so I'll bring a bath mat for her next time. Our dog is 15 years old and we have taken him her for years without major issues. We always pay extra for him to get a bath before he is picked up. However this time we did not pay for a bath because it was a shorter trip (only 2 nights). When I picked him up the entire underside of his body, including his feet, legs, tail, and and chest, we're covered in dried pee. It was caked on him and he smelled. The lady working and nothing to say about it. It took me 2 long washes to get it all out. Makes me wonder if this has happened before but we never knew because he got a bath before he came home. read more

This was our first time (and our dogs first time) at a boarder. We have a 1 year old, 90 lbs Golden Retriever who has a ton of energy and loves other dogs! My fiancé dropped him off with his dog bed and a bag of food on a Saturday and I picked him up the next day on Sunday. My pup was pooped! he slept in the car all the way home, and proceeded to sleep the rest of the day. He had a healthy appetite the next morning (they always warn that your pup probably won't eat much in the first few days due to the change in environment) and he was back to his normal self. We also had him bathed before he came home, he looked great and smelled amazing too. When I picked him up, the receptionist remembered who I was, what pup I brought in, and why we had him stay (it was my bachelorette weekend and he honey had to work all day Sunday) anyways, she told me he did great and that this morning he was in the backyard having a blast with a lab and golden doodle. I have nothing bad to say about the treatment of my pup. He sure seemed to have a great time! read more

If Sam is not working for that day, or week, I will not be dropping off my dog at this daycare. Period. They have lost me as a customer. But when I picked him up yesterday. I was appalled to see that his stay came out to 92 dollars? For 2 nights. For 2 nights it should be 50 dollars and some tax. Nope, I got over charged. When I asked about it, the manager, Katie, didn't try to make the situation better. She told me because I picked him up past a certain time it was an extra day but I charged you for only a half day. Uhm, what? I was 30 mins late, I was coming from Oregon and told someone at the front desk I was going to be a little late. But 30 mins, and a charge of a half day? Seriously, that's not right. And the bath? I was charged 26 dollars and my dog didn't even smell washed. His paws were still dirty and he was still wet. Also when I asked for his blanket, it was still in the wash. And she handed it to me wet, along with his toy. Both wet and didn't even smell clean. I had to re wash it when I got home. If Sam is not working, I will no longer be going there. I will only go there for Sam because she is awesome. But other than that, you have lost another client. I cross the bridge to drop off my dog, but not anymore. read more

We've taken our dog here several times to board her during the day while we work. Every single time she's gotten home she CHUGS water like it's going out of style. We boarded her for one night during this last weekend for the first time; when we picked her up she was frantically looking for water...got her a cup down the street, she didn't stop drinking for about 3 mins straight, and probably ingested about 480 ml's...she's only 10 pounds!!! We even dropped off a plastic water dish with her thinking maybe they'd get the hint and put water in the cage with her. They clearly didn't. When we picked up dog we asked the girl working how many dogs were there, she answered "Not too many, only 23." Seriously? The place is tiny! Do they really take every dog out for a walk when there's one solitary employee working? It doesn't seem likely. In addition, like another reviewer noted, their website states "$25/night," but they charged us for 2 nights when we picked her up. They had her for less than 24 hours. There is not a single place on their website that states they will charge for two nights! And to top it all off, this morning I found a tick on her. Take your dog elsewhere, seriously, it'll be worth the extra few bucks. This is the last we've seen of this place. read more

Do. not. bring. your. pet. here. The customer service is horrible and the employees are broken, exhausted, overworked and undervalued. The animals are treated HORRIBLY. When they say they take your pets out for 15 minutes standard, or you can pay more if you want them to get outside for longer, that's a lie. It's actually 5, sometimes less if there's too much work to be done. Sometimes dogs don't even get out. When some employees clean the kennels, they get the dogs wet because they have no where to go. The animals are neglected, ignored, and left in a cement kennel oftentimes without a bed and clean water. Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT groom your dog there. They groom very rushed, make mistakes, blow-dry the dogs in the face with the high powered blowers, handle the dogs roughly and use the metal long-tooth comb viciously. Some elderly dogs are groomed very roughly. Some dogs being groomed with the metal long-tooth comb are COVERED with scratches from it. If you're dog got bathed there, check them. You bet those dogs screamed and howled as they were being combed, and they don't stop. It is like a production line instead of an animal kennel. read more

We drove back to Peninsula pet lodge our dog did not wish to leave our car. i started looking for a alternate boarding kennel. i can not leave our dogs there in good consciousness. read more

What they do not tell you is that your dogs are likely to be taken to their Olalla facility. It's true. Ask them next time you drop your dog off if your pet will be staying at the Gig Harbor facility or will it be taken to their Olalla facility. I personally did not like this - as they did not have my permission to take my animals anywhere. Nor did it say anywhere in the paperwork that my animals would be taken to another facility. For a while there, 7-8 years ago, the place was ran by two young ladies and they were the best. They were really great to our dogs. They took good care of the place too. Unfortunately I don't think the owner wanted to invest in his building, his business, or his employees. The two gals left, which was unfortunate. Since then, the place has really gone down hill. Their prices however went up, which in my opinion, didn't seem right. They need to do some work on that building to charge what they do. read more

I would never leave any animal in their care. I went in to ask about how much a stay for my two Dachshunds and Pitbull would cost and what it would be like. The place looks like it had been left unattended for 3 years and then turned into a makeshift dog hotel. The place was dirty and the dogs were kept in small pens on a concrete floor. It smelt bad as well. Aside from how gross it was right off the bat, the customer service was not good, the girl at the front desk seemed disinterested and rude. When I asked about my pitbull, she called pit bulls "an aggressive breed" and that they would not take them. Yes, my big baby of a dog is totally super aggressive. That was sarcasm. My dachshunds are more likely to bite you or be mean or aggressive than my pitbull is. Please do not take your pets here. Aside from them being ignorant, they clearly neglect the animals here and I found myself feeling extremely sad for the poor little dogs. This place made me feel sick. I don't recommend their sister building either. Please don't take your pets to either Peninsula pet lodge. read more

We made a reservation for our dog to board at Peninsula Pet Lodge in 2018 without checking it out first. Another kennel referred us to them. We were having trouble finding a boarding reservation for our dog so we were blindsided when Peninsula said we could get a reservation. Probably should have known that there were issues with Peninsula when they demanded that we pay a $60 "non-refundable" deposit just to make a reservation about 1 month away... DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO PENINSULA GIG HARBOR. We stopped by to take a look about 3 days after we made the boarding reservation. We walked into the 'office'. It smelled bad. Really bad. It was dirty. There was nobody there. We looked around and nobody showed up. We opened a door and there was a dirty room with a number of dogs just ranging around with nobody in sight. It was awful. We would never let our dog stay or be there, not even for one hour, not even 1 minute. It was that bad. It made us wonder if there is any regulation or any health inspections for dog kennels in Washington. It was the worst we have ever seen. Ever. We theoretically lost our "$60.00" 'non-refundable' deposit for making a boarding reservation a month in advance, but one thing is absolute - - we would never let our dog - a member of our family - stay one minute at the Peninsula Pet Lodge in Gig Harbor. The owner is so unbelievably rude. She argued that they did not have my leash, the helper went and brought me my leash to me. I told them to give my dog a treat which was $4.99, they gave my dog a treat everyday. My fault I didn't say only one treat in her three day stay. I told the owner not to give my dog a bath before leaving. The owner replied, good it's best if you bathe her. When it came time to pick her up the owner charged me for a bath. I had a bottle of shampoo from her inventory to purchase on the counter and questioned the high price of her visit. She backed the bath charge off when I told her I had the shampoo to purchase. She asked me if I wanted to donate to the "first pet" $3.00 , I told her no. She charged me anyway. She told me I didn't need puppy pads, she kept all I had brought. I had to ask for an itemized invoice because she only emailed me the total charged to my bank card. The invoice showed total was $121.03, my card was charged $129.03. I asked for a credit back on my card. She gas not replied or credited my account. I will give her until Friday to do so and if she doesn't I will file a dispute. I won't be taking my dog back because of her curt, rude attitude towards me and how she treated her helper. I can only imagine how my dog was treated, or not treated during her stay there in Ollala. read more

11/4/2017 Our two dogs are really spoiled by us and only twice have been away from our home when we had to leave and had no one to care for them. My 15 year old Italian greyhound spends the entire day with me from sleeping with us at night , sitting by my feet when I am on the computer and the rest of the time in my Studio with me - usually guarding the heater when it is cold. My wife has a "princess" dog that believes the world revolves around her! She is so cute she rules the house and pretty much spends the day at someones feet, sleeping in bed with us or on a lap. They are both pretty much intimidated by other dogs and chose to stay in their "room" at the lodge all day every day we were gone. The staff must have spent a lot of time with them as the bag of "US grown chicken treats" was well over half gone when I went to pick up the pampered duo. I was taking out their "stuff" and when i came back the young lady responsible for the "Lodge" was holding both them waiting for me. Now, they were really excited to see me but did not appear to be at all upset. They did wine a bit out of joy on the ride home and were excited to get back into the house for sure. After 4 days without us, it took less than 3 hours for both to get "back" to their normal routines and you would never know they had been away from how they are acting. We were really concerned about leaving these two in a kennel but from what we have observed they got wonderful care and were unstressed by their time away from us! We give Peninsula Pet Lodge 5 stars! read more

I encourage the owner to go tour a few ACTUAL doggie daycares and boarding facilities. There is very little about this place that meets either definition. Do not take your dog to this place expecting them to play with other dogs or be cared for by attentive employees. I would not board here either, since it is clear the dogs sit in pens the entire time and don't get much, if any, stimulation or playtime. My husband and I have lived in several states over the past years and have taken our older Jack Russell and Rottweiler rescue to a half-dozen different doggie daycares. Some are better than others, but I have never seen a facility as run-down, poorly staffed, and poorly run as this one. There is nothing "daycare" about this. Nothing. The woman working at the front desk was the ONLY person in the entire building on a Saturday. She was was very friendly on the phone as well as when we arrived. However, when I told her that our pup has separation anxiety and usually "follows around whatever human is in the room with the dogs," she looked at my puzzled and said, "the dogs just play by themselves for the most part." When she took us on a tour, we saw that the first room off the lobby had two dogs in it. The room was bare and dismal - the dogs looked a little crazed and were barking like mad at the door. Then as we walked down the hallway, I saw several separate rooms - some with dogs in them, some empty. The dogs were mostly separated in their own kennels. There was one room with smaller dogs in it together, but each dog was separated by plastic gates into makeshift kennels. No dogs were playing or doing anything other than going stir-crazy. The outside area looks nice enough but it wasn't being used. The facility itself does not seem to be well taken care of - it is old, run down, and dismal. There was not nearly enough staff (only one person!?!) to care for all of those dogs. Every doggy daycare I've gone to has several large rooms (one for small dogs, one for large dogs, and sometimes an outside space). There are usually several employees playing with the dogs, walking around with the dogs, cleaning up after the dogs, etc... This place sticks your dog in a room and calls it good. It's not good nor is it acceptable care for your furry family member. I knew it was not the place for us long-term, but we had traveled a ways to get to Gig Harbor and it was too warm of a day to leave him in the car. I knew he may not have "fun," but at least he would be safe for the few hours. When we picked him up after our appointment, he was crazed and panting like he was having an anxiety attack. She said "He barks a lot." Well... yep. If he's locked in a kennel or room with other dogs that are separated by gates, he's going to bark. He has never barked at any other doggie daycare because there are humans in the room. Humans = no separation anxiety. Gah. He had diarrhea all night, which happens when he is severely stressed. Not a good experience whatsoever. If you love your pets, I warn against taking them here. read more

I took my dog there after speaking with the groomer on the phone and making it sound like she really understood how I wanted my dog to be groomed. I also inquired as to the ability to drop my dog off in the morning and pick her up after work. She said that was fine and that they routinely take the dogs outside and give them walks. When I dropped off my dog in the morning, the groomer I spoke with had no clue how to do a trim on a lab. She kept on saying "so you want her shaved?" No! I told her that many times. All I wanted was a trim, and I pointed out a couple places as examples. When I went back there to pick her up, I noticed that the only place where any hair was cut was on the back of her legs. That was it! I refused to pay and left. Then when I got home, my dog immediately started whining to go outside and she barely made it to the grass before she went. Then instead of sniffing around and finding a place to go #2, she took a step past where she peed and went. Very uncharacteristic. Then after that she went and drank a TON of water. That all leads me to believe that she wasn't let out at all, and wasn't given any water. Avoid this place at all costs!! read more

I didn't have an account before I looked at these comments but after seeing some of the comments people were making I thought it was necessary. My dog is a 110 lb Rottweiler who needs lots of attention and exercise - he's crazy. Peninsula pet lodge has done an absolutely fabulous job watching over him, exercising him, making him comfortable and grooming him. I drop him off at 6:30 am and pick him up at 6:30 pm and let me tell you - on the way there he runs around the car because he is so excited and when we come home he is tired and happy and doesn't need 20 gallons of water. The girls there are wonderful and the place itself is wonderful and a great price. If they can wear out a huge dog like mine and make him happy I'm sure most other dog breeds will be just fine. I'm so shocked at some of the previous comments. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE -- Do not give these people your money!!! I was ecstatic to find this place -- even though it was a half hour drive from my house across the narrows bridge. They seemed to have lots of land and a decent setup for leaving your pooch overnight. After setting up a weekend stay and spending 20 minutes on a very detailed phone call with Katie the receptionist, I went in to drop off my dog. There was an old man (owner) sitting in a recliner who told me he had no knowledge of my dog and said right in front of me to one of the workers that I had a vicious pit bull (wagging his tail and showing no aggression). I left feeling completely uncomfortable and traveling somewhere without service, having to make sure my mom checked in the next day with them. Second time I show up and there's an older woman (also owner) who doesn't even look up from her computer for a couple minutes. Feeling again like I've done something to offend them I left irritated-- after picking my dog up from that weekend the woman was again so rude to me For no reason I left cursing her name and swearing I would start a yelp account to review them. Not only are the owners absolutely awful, but their weekend boarding policy is to charge you for an extra day on Sunday. They only allow you to pick up your pet from 4-6 for their convenience but checkout is 12 so you get charged anyway. COMPLETE BULLSHIT. I only wish I would've read the other reviews before ever supporting this business. It seems like his couple has been in the business too long and is over it. I use the Gig Harbor location for daycare and the Olalla location for overnight stays for 17 years. Our dogs (labradors) always come back happy, healthy and tired from playing. I am not happy with the higher prices but honestly have not found another place I could trust in the local area. I understand they need to pay a good wage so we have good care for our pets but it is getting very expensive. I looked at the Prison Pet Partnership but they are really inconvenient and two friends were stuck while the prison was on lockdown twice. So I'll keep taking my dog here and try to negotiate a better price for longer stays. Overall, they care about your pet and give them good attention. read more

Horrific! Bizarre! Our dog lost a big chunk of his ear while staying here. (Go to google reviews to see picture of injury.) Our dog needed sedation and cauterization and due to their lack of preparedness he was not able to get proper treatment in a timely manner. We learned afterwards that our Vet is disappointed with this business and has recommended they need to do more to have the paperwork in place to handle pet emergencies. Our dog sat in pain, bleeding profusely from an untreated wound, when he could have been treated 24 hours sooner if not for their complete incompetence. We feel the need to warn other people. Even worse, they claim to have no idea how it happened. Approached the incident with complete lack of accountability. Couldn't even identify that part of the ear was missing, claimed originally it was a small cut, then blamed the profuse amount of blood for the reason they didn't realize it was missing... what?! They said he was not with other dogs and unmonitored when it happened... Ok in what conditions are you keeping your facility that a dog hanging out by himself in your yard can slice off his ear, and how do you not notice it is gone??!! When we got back a few days later my husband asked to tour the yard/facility to try to figure out what happened and said it looked like a junky, ram shackle, lots of obstacles that looked unsafe. When we picked him up the lady literally suggested we should go find a different dog's ear (like seriously from where?) and have them attach it to his ear, this is the level of bizarre incompetence we were dealing with here. I don't even want to think what could have happened if he were badly injured and could not be treated in time, as we had very little phone reception. The communication that it was an emergency and our dog needed sedation was NOT handled with proper urgency. I only had a missed call and delayed voicemail from a random Bellevue number (had no idea it was even the boarding facility), no attempt to text or email or even try to contact my husband. At the time, I could have received text messages, a text saying they needed my permission to sedate him would have come through, but I couldn't hear phone calls. Their attitude added insult to literal injury. Condescending, saying sometimes this happens like it's totally acceptable, not apologetic, and were acting upset *with us* that we weren't just cool and understanding of this horrendous, needless scenario our dog had to endure in their care. Awful, uncomfortable, defensive vibe. Breaks my heart to think about my dog hurting and scared when we couldn't be with him. Wish I could give zero stars, but if you want your dog to come home in on piece bring him somewhere else, and ask what they do in the event of an emergency. read more

I will never leave my dog here again. I left my dog there for 28 hours over a weekend. The staff was very nice, and my dog seemed to take to them, which left my feeling good about my choice. That was until I picked her up. She reeked of urine, which we noticed as soon as we go in the car. Later in the week, she came down with a nasty case of kennel cough. I could have overlooked that I was charged for two nights (I do realize she was there longer than a day), I might have even forgiven the immediate need for a bath if someone gave me some kind of reasonable explanation for the smell. But I have never had my dog return from boarding so sick, despite vaccinations. We had to pay $160 for the vet visit and medications. Altogether, one night cost us more than $200 and a week of hacking and gagging for my poor dog followed by 10 days of not being able to go for walks so as not to infect other dogs. read more

I recently moved to the area with a 2 year old rescued Pit Bull mix named Dutch. Dutch has been in day-care since he was old enough to go. He has been trained both on and off leash, and lived with a small cat and older dog for the first two years of his life. I called Peninsula Pet Lodge ahead of my move to see if they have breed restrictions, they said no. I figured I was all set. I showed up on Wednesday September 9th with Dutch and all of his vet records and just in case a written letter from his previous day care and his vet. No one was behind the desk so I had to walk through the facility to find the person on duty. First impressions: this place is absolutely filthy. There was food on the ground in the reception room, poop all over the kennel area and noticeable grime and refuse build up in the corners and on the walls of the dog runs. I finally found the person working, I believe her name was Catherine but I eventually got so angry that I forgot. She looked like she could hardly handle one active dog let alone management of a Kennel. Anyway, without saying a word to me she looked at my dog and said, "That's a pit, we don't want it here." I gave her Dutch's history and explained that I was told over the phone that they did not have breed restrictions. Her response was "I just don't want to deal with him and even if I did we don't have space." Having walked through the facility I said it looked like they had plenty of space and that what appeared to be the day care area was empty(except for the waste on the floor). She responded "Well we have room, but we keep those (pointing at Dutch) in the back and there are two back there, we're full". at this point I was angry enough that i knew i needed to leave. So after some choice words for that woman, we left. This place is an absolute joke at best and a hazard at worst. The fact that they have an area where they specifically keep pits is ridiculous, not safe, and awful. There is not a chance in hell that I'll ever step foot back in the place. I will advise any one who asks to RUN in the opposite direction from this place. I cannot recommend this place any less. If you have a pet who you value at all, please take your business elsewhere. read more

I need to board my two small dogs at Christmas & went to this place to take a tour. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the smell!!! It was a combination of urine and some kind of strong chemical I could not identify. Oh my gosh....in two minutes I had a headache. And the place was dirty. Ugh! I have a 7 pound Shih Tzu/Yorkie rescue and 14 pound min pin and the thought of leaving them in this dirty, smelly place for 6 days at the cost of $65-70 a day no less, was too much. I couldn't get out the door fast enough. It might be fine for large energetic dogs (and I love them too) but I didn't see any water bowls in the cages and that's a worry. read more

We have boarded our animals at this establishment once. They both returned home tired, but totally fine. Recently, I took my lab in to be Furminated and bathed. When we dropped our dog off, the girl at the front desk, Danielle, was both kind and gentle. At pick up, Amber, the groomer, was also kind and well-informed. All in all, this was a nice experience. We have taken our dog here for several years. We have always requested a large luxury suite for her. When I picked her up she was brought from a different section. I asked the girl there why hadnt she been in her suite, where had she been? She told me, she had moved her to a medium kennel because some other dogs came in and they needed her suite. (She is small 15 lbs and can be stuffed in a kennel obviously). I have always requested and paid for a suite, $42 per night. I bet she has never spent one night in the suite. And they couldnt find her food, I had sent at least three times the amount she could have ever eaten. I requested to speak to the owner, but only got a return phone call from some girl, Samantha who seemed to see nothing wrong with what had happened or that they had lost us as customers. I love this place. Im confused with the other reviews because i have been bringing my dogs here for almost a year now and never have a problem. The office staff is so friendly and i have to drag my dogs out just to come home. They love it there!!! Amber and Danielle are two of my favorite staff members who know me by name and my dogs. Amber grooms both my dogs the way i always like them and they are always good about taking them outside before i come. I drop them off about 9 am and come after work at 6pm and they are perfect. I stopped in to drop off some brochures and the smell in the office was overwhelming to say the least. My eyes began to burn and head pound within a minute, the girl finally showed up to the front office area which was disgusting and dirty. I could only hand her the brochures and get out as fast as possible. The mere thought of what the actual kennel must smell like was a horrifying thought... Now I'm not talking about a fresh poop smell, it was a long brewing stench of urine....I got back in my car and could smell it on my clothes! If you Leave your dog here for any length of time I'd have to question how much you care for your pet in the first place. I noticed the Google reviews were all 5 stars, yet the yelp reviews seem to reflect what isreally going on. I'd bet the good yelp review was put on by the owner. The absolutely worst experience I have ever encountered in my 65 years! I made reservations by e-mail and paid my $60.00 to secure the days. I never got a return e-mail to confirm the dates or to answer other questions I had posted to them. To make a long story short, I had to secure another location as I was traveling the next week. They would not refund my deposit - they lied to my credit card company that they had "delivered the product" whatever that means. When talking to other pet owners, I have heard horror stories about their facilities. My friend's neighbors boarded their dog there and it ran away the first day. PPL did not contact them or their emergency contact. A neighbor of PPL took their dog to a vet and they were able to get information from the dog's ID chip.
