The aforementioned duplicate of my equity line that was supposedly fixed 3 years ago delayed the closing of my house sale by 5 days and almost caused the buyers to back out. They refused to make any concessions or even admit they had made a mistake. I have sent messages to their Board of Directors and audit committee and have still received no response two months later. They also accidentally sent another members account information to my title company which they refuse to own up to. They are incompetent and liars. On April 19th, 2023, I applied for a credit card with PenFed and I was approved. I completed the additional paper work needed along with making a deposit to meet all the requirements. Today is May 22nd, 2023 and I have NOT received my credit card. After numerous calls on: April 28th May 3rd May 10th May 19th May 22nd PenFed can't seem to get me a credit card. This has been the WORST 1st time experience with a credit union. At this point, I can NOT recommend doing business with this credit union. This is not a good way to start a banking relationship. I think I will need to take my business elsewhere at this point. Again, I can NOT recommend doing business with PenFed. read more

Penfed is an archaic, out of date, bank. First, if you use a debit card attached to your account, you can't call up your account and easily find out how much of your balance is available to spend. That's because the IT wizards put "pending" charges in another bucket that you must subtract from your available balance to find out what your "real" available balance is. This will cause you to have your card declined if you don't figure the math out first. Pending charges sit in pending for days at a time. If you have say over 10 pending charges, it's a customer pain point to determine how much balance is available. I bank at BOFA, PNC, SoFi, Relay, Wells, Robin Hood, and all of them report the actual available balance inclusive of pending charges. Wake up PenFed! Second, the bank does not auto update accounts to quickens simplifi or quicken products. You've got to download and import the transactions. All the other mentioned banks, auto update quicken products and you don't even have to go to their site, login or do anything once it's set-up. For a bank with almost no branch presence, to make digital banking so 1980's is counter intuitive and a reason to stay away. There's not one positive difference vs. the competition and a lot of negatives. Worst banking experience of all time. read more

Astonishing that Penfed is still in business after looking at so many 1 and 2 star reviews. I have a mortgage with them and can't wait to finally pay it off this year. Their customer service is abysmal. After faithfully paying on time for 20 years, I mailed one check late --- which was forgiven, as far as a late charge --- and then a few months later, a check didn't get there for over ten days. This time, I got hit with the late charge. I called and asked if they'd remove the late charge, since I had a near-perfect record of paying. They refused, saying that I was entitled to one and only one, late payment a year. I asked if they had checked with the Postal Service, to see if there were delivery problems at that post office, ten days being way too long for my payment to reach them. I was snippily told that how the post office operates was not their concern. About a year later, mailing early to avoid their draconian late policy, my payment took 15 days to get there, just squeaking in on the last day. A couple of months after that, Penfed apologized about late deliveries, saying that they had had some sort of "problem"..... with the mail! By the way, that must have been during the time I had also sent a check for $17,000 to reduce the mortgage principal. That check just disappeared, and I had to pay a $35 stop-payment fee to my bank. The most recent nightmare was trying to get information from one of Penfed's doltish autocrat customer "service" people, about my mortgage payoff. That was a horror show of me eventually shouting at her for 20 minutes as she stonewalled the information, only ending in getting her to give in and supply the numbers that I was looking for when I asked to speak to her supervisor instead of getting nowhere with her. Penfed acts like we are there to serve THEM. WE are the customer, Penfed, not YOU! read more

Today is 16 February 2024 and I have called several times and was told it was mailed and now yet again we will mail you another check, but lets verify your address. What kind of nonsense is this? Just awful. Nice enough people, but they have no idea what they're doing. I was trying to open a trust account and they kept asking me if it was an estate. The paperwork was consistently incorrect, with the wrong tax ID. I had to make multiple, lengthy visits trying to work out the problem. This isn't for this location but there wasn't any other way to do a review for online. This whole ordeal anything BUT pleasant! This will be a long post. I opened my savings acct online and was asked (via email) to submit additional documentation, which I did (no problem). I received an email stating that they had received the documents. Then I receive an email stating that they are unable to locate my information. I call and speak with a rep who informs me that there will be a hard pull on my credit report to open my savings acct and asked if I would like to apply for any other services. I ask if it will require any additional hard pull on my credit and was told no. I then said why not and applied for a credit card as well. After not receiving any information re: my savings acct and the application for the credit card, I again call and speak with a rep because I have received from my credit reporting agency that PenFed had, in fact, pulled my credit 2 times. I explained the situation to the rep who placed me on hold to speak with a supervisor and review my original call. Which in fact the first rep didn't mention that PenFed may pull my credit more than once. I was told that the second inquiry would be removed and it may take a month to reflect on my credit report. I finally receive my bankcard in the mail with my first name spelled wrong!. I again call PenFed and have to answer questions to confirm my identity before they will fix their mistake not only to my name but also my email. So I have now finally received a corrected bank card. Now to add insult to injury I receive a letter stating that they do not have sufficient information to investigate my dispute re: the 2 hard pulls on my credit report. Please explain to me how is that possible??? They can see all of the contact in my acct and all of the conversations that I have had with multiple people?? This isn't and I repeat ISN'T HOW YOU TREAT NEW OR ANY CUSTOMERS!!! read more

The PenFed Credit union is the absolute pits. I have a credit score of 835, 15 points from perfect and they can't decide to offer me a credit card because I am self employed even with my tax returns. I have pristine credit, not a single blemish, and spent a lifetime getting my credit across this high. They would not even acknowledge what my credit score is. They do not respond to questions by email period. I have bought $100,000 cars, $400,000 houses and been approved in less time. These people act like they are doing me a favor, while hundreds of other credit cards companies would approve me in 5 minutes. They sure know how to run off potential great customers. They can keep their card. I m getting a Apple Card today. read more

About mortgages...I paid off $300,000 mortgage about 2 years ago. I just got the mortgage and note that was stamped "paid" no signatures by the bank and no date....almost 2 years later the papers show up....not a smooth operation. Don't use PFCU they don't care if you pay off your loan and stop paying them monthly interest. read more

This is a new branch. The staff seem exceedingly friendly at this branch. They go out of their way to make you feel like you are the most important person. Very disappointed in PedFed. We have had a 1% cash back credit card with PenFed since 2009. Just found out today that they changed the "terms of service" back in 2013 instead of being a "1% cash reward" card to being just a "3% back on only gas purchases". They said they sent a letter, but I don't ever recall seeing anything and if they did send it, I'm thinking this "minor fact" was burred in the small print. STAY AWAY FROM PenFed, as they apparently are a deceitful organization who would completely change the cash back program on a card and not clearly notify you and have the nerve to still issue the card with the title on the card being "Cash Reward" when they clearly changed it to being just a "Gas Rewards" card. I am very disappointed in PedFed, thought they were a better organization than this...we will be changing to a more honest financial institution for our credit card.. read more
