The sound was good, although the bathrooms are in the lobby behind closed doors so you couldn't hear the performance from there. Staff was nice, the bartenders were great, and I loved that they had bottomless popcorn available. They have some seating in the upper balcony, but I'm not sure if those spots were more expensive. If you're a person who really misses the good old days, when you could listen to mediocre bands and drink while sitting in a cloud of smoke, this is the place for you. When we arrived and paid our cover charge, the crowd was pretty sparse and nobody was smoking. After about a half hour, one guy at the end of the bar lit up. There's usually at least one a$$hole in every crowd, so I didn't think much of it initially. Also, we were far enough away that it didn't affect me. As it turns out, this guy was not the exception -- he was the RULE. As the crowd grew bigger, more folks were smoking. Hell, the employees were smoking. There was really no escaping it at that point. At the point I felt my breathing get tighter, it was time to leave. Yep, I'm one of those with asthma. I appreciate the rebel spirit. I truly do. If that inconvenient anti-smoking LAW chaps your a$$, by all means take a stand against the oppression of "the man." But I would have appreciated a bit of warning BEFORE they took my cover charge, stank up my clothes, and sent me running for fresh air and pharmaceutical assistance.

However, many of the attendees were extremely frustrated because although we arrived to the theater 40 minutes before show time, there was an extremely long line outside of the Fox Theatre with people waiting to get through security. People were filing into the theater and taking their seats for the first 20 minutes of the show due to this delay. A woman who I spoke to while waiting in line stated that she had the same issue with them the week prior. So my advice is to arrive to the theater as early as possible so when they open the doors, you are at the front of the security line and don't miss any of the show you paid good money for!

We sat at high tables on the main floor, they also have seating upstairs and a dance area near the stage. A nice place to spend a couple hours with friends and hear live music.

Perfectly disgusting, just as they should be in a place like this. The walls are covered in layers of graffiti and stickers, some of it actually pretty interesting if you take the time to look. Live bands crank out music that ranges from surprisingly solid to who let them on stage? But that's part of the charm. This is the kind of bar where you go to lose track of time, drink with strangers who might become friends, and soak in the glorious decay of a true dive. It's not for everyone, but if you appreciate a bar with character, history, and just the right amount of grime, Howard's Club H is a must.
