Over the past 60 years that I've been going to dentists I've had lots of good ones and a couple…read morethat were notably bad. I have been seeing Dr Johnson for about ten years and she is the best so far. It's a two-person office. She does ALL the dental work and that includes cleaning. (for me that was impressive) Her assistant, Saliou, takes care if appointments, insurance issues, and other non-dental activities. The space is clean and friendly. There's always classical music in the background. The appointments are spaced so that (at least for me) there's never a wait. Her manner is calm and conversational and she has always been happy to explain what she's doing and describe any options I might have. Finally, the one or two times I've had to reschedule at the last minute they've always been agreeable and understanding. My sense is their priority is pleasantness over profit. To that end, Dr Johnson focuses on general dentistry. The times I've needed something like a root canal or gum surgery she's referred me out and it's always been to another outstanding practitioner. There's a reason she keeps winning "Best Dentist..." awards an my only hope is that people won't read this and start to flood her appointment book.

We searched the papers for a dentist who offered Saturday office hours. At that time Dr. DeLatour was teaching Dentistry at George Washington University, and offered Saturday hours in Fairfax which's also let him have students present for our care. During those years Dr. DeLatour did all of his dentistry, fillings, crowns, root canals. He had two sons and one daughter. She , I believe graduated in Nursing. He often ask my wife questions, since my wife was oldest to two brothers. We were loaded to head out one Saturday on vacation...a temporary crown Dr. DeLatour had installed the pdevious week, fell out. I called him from a pay phone and our Dr.met us at his office and reset the temporary. In February 2002, my wife became sick and I called Dr. Delatour to reschedule her appointments and he said that a Physical limitation he was going to give Jo his practice. . Dr. Favagehi placed an implant in my tooth in the spring of 2010 and I've had nothing but problems…read morewith the tooth since. The implant was placed in my jaw crooked, so, when my dentist placed the abutment and crown on, the tooth looked very misaligned with wide gaps on either side, sticking out dramatically toward my cheek. I have had chronic problems with my gums around it and shooting pain when I chew that throbs for hours afterward. Unfortunately, we are military and no longer live there and have a different dental plan now, so I have no recourse through insurance. Additionally, I am having to have that implant replaced with a custom abutment and new crown to try to correct all the problems, costing us close to $1000 out of pocket in addition to what I originally paid Dr. Favagehi for the implant work. This was my first implant and crown, so I had no idea what to expect or how it should look. In the interim, I had a different implant on another molar done by a dentist in Texas that is perfect and has caused zero problems. It's been a bit frustrating to say the least. Chronic pain is no fun. I don't even chew on that side anymore and have heat and cold sensitivity around that implant. It must go. I think they should refund me my out-of-pocket expenses for that bad implant at a minimum. And it would be most appropriate to cover my current additional expenses to repair it as well. That would be the ethical thing to do. When you pay thousands of dollars for dental work, it should be right or they should fix it for free. I shouldn't have to suffer AND pay double for their error. So unprofessional they hung up on me while I was waiting to get called in to an appointment at 11:30am. 15 min of waiting and they said 10 min wait. I call and they hang up. Everything in the office is old and outdated in bad need of renovations. My wife got 5 teeth taken out and was not given enough medications. I called the oral surgeon and he recommended me to go to the emergency room which is pretty expensive instead of going to my general practitioner. I went to my general practitioner and had to get more medications from him. I don't know why the oral surgeon told me to go to emergency room? I guess he wants me to spend more money. The first time we went there for consultations. They told me the bill was going to be $7000 with 5 teeth removal and two implants. Out of instinct I told them I could not afford that. They never suggested payment plans or any type of help just said I need to pay $7000. So obviously I did not do it. Then I call back later and they say "oh you don't have to pay the whole thing now. It takes 6 months for bone grafts to heal so you only need to pay $2500. Okay, better. They finally agreed to a payment plan which I don't know why they were so reluctant with pandemic going on. Sorry I lost my job and can't foot out $7000. The thing is they never told me this information from the beginning they just let me walk out the door saying I can not pay for it. Usually you are seen a week after surgery, but this office is so understaffed I could not be seen till the 11th day. I come to the appointment 5 minutes early. They tell me 10 min wait. I wait 15 min, 10 more minutes please. It's been 30 min from my appointment and they still haven't seen me or called me in. Update: they said 10 more minutes and they saw me in 5 minutes. WOW their estimation was somewhat correct. Congratulations, I guess third time is the really the charm at least for this office.
