We interviewed a number of chefs and Meal Mate was by far the best. Most creative ideas, most responsive, and best enthusiasm for the project! We signed with them months ahead of the date, and as it drew closer, I started getting reminders from Chef Jamie. Some questions, more ideas. On event day, Chef Jamie and Chef Nathan showed up exactly on time and started getting to work. First, the table was set beautifully with linen napkins and personalized menus/place cards. As guests arrived, we were all treated with a specialty cocktail and delightful appetizers. And then dinner. Wow!! Maybe the best ribeye steak ever. Wonderfully seasoned and incredibly tender. The sides were all great but that steak - oh, my lord. Dessert was a matcha tiramisu and it was the perfect finish! Throughout the night, the service was so smooth and then, before we knew it, the kitchen was cleaner than when they arrived and they were off. Last year when I asked Susan Lacz if she would consider donating a dinner for a group of Wounded Warriors who are convalescing at Walter Reed Medical Center, she answered "Yes, absolutely. Please tell me whatever you need and we'll be happy to do so." Last month on September 22nd, Ridgewells once again stepped up the plate to honor our servicemen and women by providing a meal experience the likes of which they rarely see, only this time for 40 people instead of the group of 30 in 2025. In the capable hands of Susan's assistant, Event Sales Associate KayCee Tucker, a literal feast was devised of 2 different sandwiches (roast beef and caprese) and 2 specialty wraps (grilled buffalo chicken and teriyaki salmon) complemented by 5 different salad dishes in addition to an assortment of chips and cookies. The diners, as well as the volunteer servers, were wowed by the quality of the meal and, most notably , by the generosity of Ridgewells Catering in honoring the Wounded Warriors for their service to our country. I worked with Molly. She was extremely helpful & catered my event to match my needs and budget. On the day of the event, I was very pleased with the food presentation. Variety was great & everything was delicious! No complaints from my event guests. Most of all, the on-site catering attendants handled everything exceptionally well! Eudy, Mohamed, and Gianella were phenomenal!! They went above and beyond. I had a few last-minute needs & they stepped up (helping with my swag/sign-in table set-up, providing an extra linen, & working around our onsite craft-making exhibit). He was very easy to work with--he shared his thoughts for a menu: Appetizers -Red wine poached pear blue cheese salad -caprese basil salad Entrees -chicken Milanese -red onion jam salmon Sides - french ratatouille - grilled sweet potatoes and cranberries Dessert -assorted of cookies, cupcakes and fruits Everything sounded so yummy but I wanted one of the salads to be vegan. Chef Serge told me that he can swap the caprese salad with green beans cherry tomato and grapefruit salad (I wanted the red wine poached pear blue cheese salad!). I approved that change however, there was some confusion. I later asked if rice comes with the entree and he said that it's extra and asked if I wanted it, I said to keep the menu as is without rice but he thought that I meant to keep his original menu. When he came with the food, it was too late to get the vegan salad. I should have ask for a confirmed menu. Chef Serge and his assistant came on time to setup and offered to stay for the entire lunch but we just want buffet style and members serve themselves. My favorites were the red wine poached pear blue cheese salad and the red onion jam salmon. It was the first time that I've ordered salmon from a caterer where they've kept the skin on. I love the skin on my salmon but caterers don't keep it on. The ratatouille was tasty but some people didn't know quite what to make of it. One of my colleagues said that it has some Caribbean spices--I mentioned it to Chef and he said that he's from Guadeloupe, go figure. The desserts were okay, some mistook it for Entenmann's. He told me that he works with local bakery for desserts. Personally, I don't care too much about the desserts, my main focus is the food. I recommend Chef Serge but I think he's best for private parties. I've referred him to someone who was looking for a caterer for a holiday party. He was very flexible, positive and reliable. Luckily the driver hadn't left yet, so we stopped him and my sister called the restaurant. She spoke with who I believe was the manager. The young lady on the phone had a very nasty attitude, both to me and my sister. They told us it wasn't their fault, and if we wanted the correct pizza delivered we would have to pay another $11 delivery fee. So basically nobody took responsibility. It wasn't our fault, and according to them it wasn't their fault either. But somehow we still had to pay extra to fix the mistake. The delivery driver did come back about 15-20 minutes later with the other pizza. By that time my blood sugar had dropped, so I had already eaten a slice or two of the cheese pizza just so I could get something in my system. The pizza itself was just okay. The cheese pizza did have a lot of cheese piled on it, I'll give them that. But honestly, the two pizzas together were not worth $33. The next day we ended up giving the rest of the pizza to a homeless man sitting outside the hotel, so at least someone got something out of it. Overall, the customer service was poor, mostly because of the attitude we received on the phone. The food was just average. I personally would not recommend this restaurant, but like I always say -- that's just me and my taste buds. You might try it yourself and have a better experience. Good luck. We did not make a mistake on our order. We ordered a pizza with toppings and received a plain cheese pizza. That was the issue from the beginning. When we contacted your restaurant, we were told it was not your fault and that we would have to pay an additional $11 to have the correct pizza delivered. That is why we ended up paying a total of $33 for a small pizza order. Yes, the replacement pizza was eventually delivered 15-20 minutes later, but only after we were told we had to pay extra to correct a mistake that was not ours. You also could have taken the original pizza back if that was your policy, but we were told to keep it. I do want to address the statement about "blackmail." At no point did we attempt to blackmail anyone for free food. That accusation is simply not true and is very unprofessional. I would also like to note that the tone and attitude we experienced during the phone conversation were not professional and did not reflect good customer service. Clear and respectful communication could have made this situation much easier to resolve. This was my birthday weekend. We spent a significant amount of money enjoying ourselves and supporting businesses. In fact, earlier that same morning, we were even dealing with a situation where someone attempted to use my sister's credit card fraudulently. With everything we had going on, it makes absolutely no sense that we would try to "blackmail" anyone over a small pizza. We shared our experience based on what actually happened: We received the wrong order We were charged extra to correct it The customer service, including the tone of the interaction, was not pleasant Based on this interaction, I can better understand how communication issues may happen between management and staff. Everyone is entitled to leave an honest review, and that is what this is. If you are going to respond publicly, I believe it is important to present the full situation, not just part of it. As I said before, this was my experience. Others may have a different one.
