I immediately when to my Vet and ask them what was said, and found. The lady at peewees never ask: "HOW MANY I BOUGHT THE LAST TIME" (I buy 6 month at a time). I would give 0 stars if I could. First off, this place is insufferable. The old lady managing this place is laughable. She's on here responding to every low review saying "idk you or I have cancer". Just cause you're old and sick, doesn't mean you can treat people like garbage. Give the place to new management if you're incompetent and can't handle it anymore. Peewee's at first can sometimes seem a like a difficult place to adopt an animal, but it is because they people sincerely care about the correct placement of their animals. I don't know if he was still adopting out to people here in Corpus Christi or if they are sending out of state but either way peewee's adoption has done SO MUCH to save and help animals. I found the love of my life at Peewee's about five years ago. Words cannot describe my love for my chihuahua. I have also taken several animals I have found off the streets to Peewee's (I contribute $100-$200 donation of course since it's the right thing to do when I do). Peewees has never declined to take an animal that I have found off of the streets, and I love them for this. read more

I was very shocked at the behavior of this place. I went to this establishment because my mom found a dog on the side of the road on a highway next to a dead dog, she didn't want it to get hit so she took it home. I get a text message late at night before I got off of work telling me about the dog and my mom asking me to take it to peewees to see if they could take her in. I took her to peewees the next day before I was supposed to go into work. Before I took her there, I called and told her the situation and she said that the dog cannot be more than 15 pounds, I was completely fine with that because we were not sure how much the dog weighed anyways. I took the dog to this place of business and I knock on the door per the instructions on the paper taped to the door. A woman comes out, which I later find out is a very unprofessional and a very crude woman. She comes out of the door and I greet her and tell her that I was the one that just called about the dog that was found. She immediately tells me "that dog is not 15 pounds" with an attitude. I tell her "oh.. I wasn't sure how much she weighed that just how much my mom estimated and told me she was around" (15 pounds) she tells me that we can take her inside and weigh her. I said okay and I try to get the dog inside but she didn't want to because she was afraid of the other 4 little dogs on the ground. In my hands I had an umbrella and a blanket. She tells me to "put my stuff on the ground and pick her up" with an attitude again. I was a bit shocked at that point but I did not say anything, I come inside with the dog and pick her up. She then comments and asks why do I have such a loose collar on her and that she's gonna get away from me (with a rude tone) I tell her it's all I had because this was such short notice so I just used the collar from my pug. We weigh her and she comes out to 17.5 pounds, she didn't tell me anything for a minute and just had me look at the weight. I told her that it was fine, I didn't know how much she weighed. She told me we can go to the gulf coast humane society, I tell her okay. She asks if we scanned her for a microchip yet and I tell her no, she said I should've done that first. She asks this man at the desk for the microchip machine and they don't have one so she tells him they need to order another one. She then asks me where specifically she was found and I tell her I'm not sure, my mom just texted me saying she found her on the side of the highway. She gets upset AGAIN and says "well I need to know exactly where she was found and any place that you take her is going to want to know that" I'm like "my bad... I didn't know" I take her outside and she tells me she can help me take my stuff to the car, I tell her that I came in a Lyft and I was just going to order another one back. Immediately disgust spreads across her face and she says "you took a Lyft..?" I'm like "yes..? The judgement was obvious. I am a young adult and the impression this woman left is despicable. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and quite honestly I can say it is the worst shelter I've ever been to. Received deaf and deafblind dogs as a rescue to "rescue" transfer to save them from Hurricane Harvey from these people. I use the word rescue loosely here. Given I received no heartworm test record and a home print job for "proof of rabies" that no government official or veterinarian would take IF I asked them to. The dogs were so flea ridden they had stains from the flea blood on their rumps, nails unacceptably long and one needed eye surgery which should have been done during the prior year this place had custody of them. They had no training at all and on your paper work it says the male is blind in his right eye when in reality he can see out of that one but not the left. The worst part is I specialize in training dogs like these and this place first offered these dogs as pups then rescinded the offer citing they would find them the "best homes". You utterly failed those dogs, please don't do this to other special needs animals, it is cruel and unfair. You obviously do not have the resources or the time to care for them properly. read more

This place really truly loves these animals. It sure was a hard pill to swallow when I found out that they can no longer allow local adoptions. I mean, i get it. Think about it: Anyone can adopt a pet, but not everyone should. These folks are simply guaranteeing that these babies will go on to get adopted by a warm family and placed in a wonderful home. Today I went to Peewee's to give up one of our sweet babies. Charlie is a puppy and needs lots of attention with training and using the restroom appropriately. Unfortunately, we just don't have enough time to give Charlie the attention he needs. As sad as it was, making me cry, My whole demeanor changed when I was made aware that Charlie is going to have a wonderful life from here on out. I took in a stray after he almost got hit by a carand was having problems finding a home for him, thankfully I was referred to peewees by another full shelter. I was excited when they told me that they could take the dog and would do what they could to find a great home for him! He's in good hands and while a lot of reviews say that they are too strict with who they let adopt, I think it just means they care about the dogs they have over having a high turnover rate. read more

Ernie is big-hearted and makes sure her sweet creatures will be safe and sound in their new homes before permitting adoption. Before the animals in her care leave Peewee's they are lovingly cared for by attentive & capable staff. The cleanliness is impressive as well. Most of all, Ernie and her staff really know their innocent occupants, speak to them by name and can tell you about each animal's personality. My two cats were handed over to me healthy and thriving. I just wanted to see the dog's to potentially get my dog a friend that he can bond with and have fun when I'm at work. The owner was very disrespectful. I couldn't even look at the dogs without filling out the application. The Application had a question about the average life span of a dog. Me and my Girlfriend were denied from looking at the dogs, simply because we weren't interested in filling out an application at the time cause we were just looking . I'm sorry i don't know the average life span of a dog off the top my Head, I didn't know that was a big deal until now. I do not recommend Driving all the way out there to just get denied by a rude owner. Best of luck to the animals. This was made for anyone thinking of going to just look. This isn't for the owner to reply, this is just to inform the public before they go. I wish i would of read the previous reviews on this place before showing up, she told a lady that she couldn't get a dog because she had a cane and it could be a choking hazard. My husband and I adopted a poodle mix last month. My husband has terrible allergies so we looked into finding a hypoallergenic dog. Pee Wees was able to help us find a poodle who is smart, friendly and healthy. My husband responded well to our new furry friend and we couldn't be more happy. Screening process was easy for us since we have good qualifications. I enjoyed talking to the staff. Ps. My husband and I did visit the original location which is understandably exhausted due to the amount of dogs and short staff. But they do the best they can and I applaud them for being a NO-KILL shelter. Understandably, they have many animals and limited resources. I went to Petsmart today ( like I do every Sunday.) They finally had the dog ive been wanting. He was the cutest yorkie . I filled out paperwork and to my surprise I turned down. I own my own home and I live out in the country. I have no neighbors close to my home the only issue is I do not have a full fence. I have a cat that I have had for 5 yrs and he is very well taken care of . The fence issue was the deciding vote of no they said . He was going to be a inside dog and only out side under our supervision. I am so upset that instead of letting us adopt him and giving him a great home . I adopted my dog from PeeWee's in '08 and a family member adopted a dog in 2010. The shelter director is very strict when deciding if an animal should go home with a visitor, as it should be. Someone was bringing a dog back while I had been there because they didn't bother to check with their landlord to see if their dog would even be allowed at their apartment. Stupid. I believe they require spaying/neutering to be done within a certain time of adopting a dog. You have to know about Heartworm prevention and be prepared to answer questions about where the dog will be staying and how to care for it. I think there's also a ranch or other type of animal sanctuary on the property. It's not the most "glamorous" looking place in the world but I think the staff genuinely care for the animals and the outdoor dog area looked like it was kept clean. Pee Wee's does seem to care more about the animals than stupid, overly sensitive people's dumb feelings. As long as they take good care of the animals, who gives a rat's ass about your feelings. They didn't give me any trouble when I called up there just now and told them about the stray cat and her four babies that I found, but cannot keep. I will be donating my time and money to these people from now on and encourage everyone else to do the same. There is a serious problem in this area and they are working to fix it! Kudos to the Pee Wee's staff/volunteers!!! :) Just got back from dropping off the stray cats, and am happier now than before! This place is truly an animal haven! The lady who runs it allowed us to tour the property and it is amazing! I have a pretty good idea of what makes animals happy and they all seemed happy and content. They have an awesome cat house/enclosure and a safe, indoor area for the kittens. Those cats looked very happy and well cared for, someone who doesn't know cats might not think it's the prettiest but anyone who does can see that it is awesome! They have lots of beds and cat towers and things to climb on and scratch. These folks really get animals! They do NOT want you to adopt dogs. Not sure what type of adoption group this is, but they could care less about matching excellent owners with dogs. My best friend, who has owned a dog before and is a complete dog lover , who also accompanied me to adopt my sisters's dog at Houston BARCS - she spent TWO WHOLE hours getting to know this one particular dog at peewees!!! She fell in love with this dog, however because she LOOKED like a college student and she said she would ALLOW the dog outside (to stretch his legs in the morning and touch grass - because what dog wouldn't love to roll around in grass?) , they rejected her! They somehow claimed she was a student and wouldn't have time for the dog - so somehow the dog was going to be left outside all day ?!? They also banned her entire family and friends from ever adopting from them. What type of agency does this ? And how in the world did they come up with this type of assumption and conclusion ? My friend NEVER said she was a student , she's a functioning independent woman in her mid twenties, works , and lives with her family in a house with a backyard. She would have provided ALL that she COULD to this dog. She would have made sure this dog had : belly rubs , food , treats , medicine/ up to date vaccinations, a comfy bed , play time , socialization, baths, and most importantly LOVE . My best friend would have provided this dog love and this agency took one look at her, and rejected and banned her for life , just because she was being herself . They didn't even want to listen to her explain herself, or how she was going to care for this dog. And they just simply threw her application out the window. This is disappointing that an agency would not do what's best for THEIR dogs/fosters. It's disappointing that this dog will have to pass up a more than willing potential owner. I hope this group reconsiders what they consider a "good " dog owner because they obviously don't know one when they see one. Shame. read more

My husband and I recently went to try and adopt. I had read the not so great reviews before, but I was not going to allow that to get in the way of potentially adopting. So, I read the hours on their webpage and we went. It said on their page that you would be screened or complete application to see if you qualify, probably what she asked one of the reviewers I read about. But BEFORE we even walked inside the office, she came outside and asked what we needed. We proceeded to ask if they were adopting and she said "not locally". And if they do local adoptions, they are to repeat families. Without asking us ANYTHING. Judging us off of what? Our looks? Age? I have not a clue. All I know is I have had dogs my whole life and love them unconditionally. As a registered nurse during these troubling times, An additional dog for the family including my schnoodle would have been amazing. It would have allowed extra time for both my Husband and I to give even more attention to get to know a new pet and ensure a healthy relationship with our current dog. I can't imagine the things she has to see, the neglect ...the strays. However, it is not fair to decide if I get adopt without a CHANCE. My Dogs are always up to date on their shots/pills, always have been. I am a registered nurse and I have seen many things that I will never forget (good, bad, sad, violent, you name it) , however I do not allow those experiences to impact my future patients and work cause those are different patients and people. I hope this facility will be more Open while still safely screening potential Adopters. I've worked with animal rescue organizations in the past, and I'm cautious when considering adoption from a group I don't know. But we adopted an eight-week-old kitten from Peewee's last year, and from the day we undertook the process to now, it's been the most rewarding experience I've ever had with adopting an animal. First of all, they don't adopt to just anyone--they make sure that you're not a serial animal abuser, or someone who treats animals like the flavor of the week--or someone who doesn't have the wherewithal to feed, house and take care of an animal they way those innocent creatures deserve. Secondly--they only adopt out animals whose health they have monitored. They even give you a head start with neutering and first shots! We adopted the most highly socialized, fuzzy little angel ever, a little boy we call Castiel who turned out to be part Siberian. He can jump over eight feet in a single bound, he is already the biggest cat we have, and he loves to stand under the faucet and let the water run down his face. They're website currently has a flyer that offers 50% to people who are on public assistance. I recently took in a female dog that needs to get fixed because that is the best way to curb the overpopulation of stray animals. I already own 3 dogs that are all fixed, vaccinated, on heartworm prevention and are pampered. I clearly know how to care for dogs. The lady who called me said that I do not qualify because while I do have public assistance, I own my home. That it was only done people that get assistance and pay a buttload in rent. Telling me that it says that on their website (It does not). Aren't they supposed to be helping the overpopulation issue? I have taken a few rescues here but when you want to have your own animal fixed at their clinic they will not do small purebred animals but yet if you were to surrender the animal they would do it or if a rescue brings in the animal they will do it. Such a sad response when you say you are here to help the community but refuse to actually help. I will not suggest this place ever again and I will discontinue my monthly donation and find a rescue and clinic that stands by their statement to help their community no matter what the case may be. This is sad for me because I really believed that they were a great place despite the rude lady that runs the place. I understand that rescue is a very hard job to be in but to carry so much hate with you when your job is to deal with the public is just wrong and she should really let someone else be the face of this place. Sad excuse for temporary homes for fur babies. The woman who runs this so-called professional business has no idea how to. Bringing my vet records to show how my current fur baby is uptodate, even had him at my side to see so you could see him, cause I only listed one preventative med that he's on, mind you, it's a tri med which means all 3 are covered, it wasn't good enough? I guess my well mannered 9 year old rescue up to date baby, isn't good enough enough for your Google search of my address last updated 7 years ago I only listed the name of the med he's on. Sorry I'm not a doctor of veterinary medicine, that's why I have one my baby visits regularly. Maybe you should have called them instead of Google searching my address. Sorry I don't live on the south side or that my more than an acre wooden and concrete fenced yard want good enough for you. They didn't like the photo copy of my mortgage payment (yes, they said I needed to provide this for adootion) and complained that when they looked up my address it didn't show up (we live in the country) - our vet called them and spoke to them and they still wouldn't let us adopt the dog! Went to facility to show proof of residency paperwork and it was gross! I felt so bad for all those dogs! It is seriously a case of animal hoarders... Our vet knows several families that weren't allowed to adopt from peewee's for no good reason. Basically these people are animal hoarders and only try to give off an appearance like they are trying to help. I adopted my baby boy, Kingston (formerly Omni 2) from Pee Wee's on Good Friday 2010 ! He's a 1 1/2 year old poodle mix that I am absolutely in love with ! I've read some terrible things about this adoption agency but didn't find any of it true. The owner is very selective about who adopts her pets which she should be. You must know about vaccines, taking your pet to vet and kenneling. She also doesn't like for you to keep your pet outside much. I would definitely go back for another pooch or kitty ! read more

DOG #1: I normally don't write bad reviews, but decided I might as well share our experience. Our experience isn't so much with the owners as the care of the animals at this shelter. We adopted a small dog last year. We took her to the vet because we noticed she had a horrible limp. One of her hind legs was not being used. The muscle in that leg was deteriorated. I didn't notice it when I adopted her because they wouldn't allow me to walk her. Anyway, she is the absolute best dog. However, she needed a $2500 surgery due to her hip bone being severely deformed and in-patient care. We went ahead and paid for that out of pocket. We loved her and didn't want to give her up. The shelter will cover some costs of medical bills after adoption if you use their vet. I wasn't 100% comfortable using their vet. Plus, when I called to ask about the dogs history, the person on the phone was extremely rude to me. I wasn't asking them to cover expenses, but wanted to know if the doctor had noticed her leg when they had her spayed. The woman was rude and snapped at me. I just decided to take her to vet I trusted. Dog #2 : My son has Aspergers. We thought a dog would be therapeutic for him. We allowed him to select his dog. We went to several local shelters and then the pet stores. Peewees was there and he fell in love with a little dog. He named her. We made sure she could walk okay this time. We get her home and all week she had diarrhea. Then, I noticed blood and worms in her stool. I took her to my vet and they confirmed Tapeworms and Giardia. Blood in stool. She was spayed last month. Doctor said she's had it for a while. So, why is their vet missing these major things? We love both animals and they are great pets, but the additional costs of getting them healthy has been expensive. The main reason I didn't want to use their vet was because if both times he missed these illnesses, I was concerned about the care the dogs would receive if I took them in. So, our upfront vet bills combined have been close to $3000. Other than the health of the animals, I will say these dogs are so sweet and well behaved. My only direct experience with them directly was last year when I was searching for a boarding option for my horse. The place is close to home however convenience quickly went out the window. The place was very dirty, I second the comment that said it look like hoarding conditions, and I waited forever for the one person in the whole place to speak to me. Everyone is right when they say the office trailer is full of dingy looking animals in unkempt cages. I would think the volunteers would bathe the animals or at least change their liners and litterpans if they're going to be right there on display for potential families to be looking at. I don't know what their intake policies are in regards to that, but it could use some attention... anyway... The guy behind the counter had no clue about the boarding and said the lady would need to call me. I was told her name was Ernie, and I've heard nothing good about her since. He took my name and number and I never heard back. I told him to please have her call me even if they're full so I had info for future reference. This visit was after multiple unfruitful phone calls to them in the first place. Also, requiring a spay/neuter contract or proof of pet allowance in an apartment complex is one thing. Deciding that all families with children under age six aren't fit to have pets is ridiculous. read more

We adopted Marvin the Guinea Pig last week at Petsmart though I thought it was strange that they had to call for an approval on the little guy and that it took well over 30 min. I understand that they are trying to get good sound houses for them and that is important. Cara is super cool, friendly and really loves the animals, she always goes the extra effort to make that animal leave happy. This is the third animal we have gotten from peewees and they all have been great. I think Cara helped on the last one too :) Lydia was also working and did a great job. I know they get a lot of negative reviews but what they do is overwhelming to say the least and dedication of love to animals. read more

I tried to adopt a dog from their adoption set up at Pet Smart. My paperwork checked out, but the person who gives the final word (Ernie) told me no because I had too many children in my house. I informed her that the dog would be well taken care of, and loved like family, but she started making up more excuses such as: "you're answer to the question on the application about the dog's life span was wrong." She was EXTREMELY rude, and insulting. It seemed like she wanted me to know that she makes the ultimate decision, and there was no changing her mind. There was no reason for me to be denied taking the dog home. read more
