As a physician, it is uncomfortable to write a less than stellar review. However, for the sake of…read morecancer patients seeking treatment, be prepared for a doctor who is less than complete when it comes to a physical exam. I will not speak to his technical abilities as he did not operate upon me. Indifferent is his overall approach. Perhaps it was a bad day. For me, the visit was a waste of time. I always called my patients with critical laboratory results. I had to call his office several times to get the results which also arrived by mail but not until two weeks later. The current Georgetown system is run as a clinic without physician guidance. There are too many impediments to direct physician-patient telephone contact. Perhaps this generation of physicians prefers it this way?

I had tests done; it took 3 weeks for them to respond to phone messages left 3 times within 2 weeks. They promised to mail test results Nov. 23 and a month and 1 week later, I haven't received anything. I would never return to this office. The ironic thing is, they have a health care referal counselor who provided references to doctors there, prior to the appointment I am reporting about. This was helpful, but the doctor's and the office staff's' responsiveness to me as a patient is medically detrimental and negligent. I am getting a very bad flavor from Georgetown University Hospital Center, which represents this specialist.

However, now that Dr McNamara is part of Bethesda Physician Associates, an MDVIP practice, there is no comparison to the past. Now, if there is an issue, I usually get a callback from Dr McNamara within an hour or so. If I am sick, I can usually get a same day or next day appointment. The physical exam is comprehensive and is not rushed. I am highly satisfied with the change. The downside is that there is now an additional fee of $2,000 per year. However, I realize that in this age of managed care and insurance-driven health care, it has become necessary in order to get the care that I desire and expect.

In…read moreJune of 2015 she had a routine blood test and, after many months of reaching out to try to get the results, Dr. McNamara finally called her back and told her that "he didn't get paid to make phone calls." He then proceeded to tell her that her test results were fine; however, he was sure she needed to get back to her family as he needed to get back to his. I understand people have lives outside of their work; however, it should have never taken until October to hear back about something regarding her health, good or bad. He now works for MDVIP where patients pay extra money to have a doctor on call whenever they need them. I don't know about anyone else but, if I'm going to pay over $1000 extra to have a doctor there whenever I need him/her, I would want someone who really cares about the hospitality aspect of the medical field. I don't seem to be the only person who feels this way either.

I arrived on time for my 9:15am (first appointment of the morning) to find the waiting room full! I did not have to wait long, but I would definitely recommend arriving early, especially if you are a new patient or have to fill out paperwork. I can only imagine that their schedules get backed up later in the day. Dr. Horwitz was great - he covered all of the basics, asked follow-up questions, patiently answered my questions, but kept me there no longer than needed. It was a perfect balance of not feeling rushed, but not having an appointment take any longer than needed. The facility is nice too. It is sometimes hard to find native English speaking doctors with clean offices in this area (my personal preference). I'm sure he accepts many types of insurance, but mine is Aetna HMO.

I have never felt that my medical well being was more of a concern then I did with Dr Yerg and his assistant Lisa. Physical: They spent well over an hour and a half with me; constantly running tests or asking me about my medical (and my family's medical) history. Both Dr. Yerg and Lisa were taking notes the entire time. It was impressive. Consultation prior to physical: Dr Yerg met me to ask some general background questions. Later, he remembered every detail. The staff at the front desk was efficient and pleasant. I don't think a guy with his professionalism needs any endorsement, but I feel obliged to give it anyway.

Obviously he is very good and has many years of experience. He did an Ultrasound and two biopsies to decide for the best procedure. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything with patience the entire time. It is hard to understand all these medical terms but he had patience and made me feel as comfortable as I could feel. The first biopsy was pretty painless and over fast. The second one needed more specimen for a special DNA test and was a bit more uncomfortable but still totally fine. After results came back 60% probability for cancer he suggested to get only half of the thyroid removed. He also gave me the option to remove the whole thing because a lot of people choose that for peace of mind. I chose to remove half. My procedure was done at the Massachusetts Ave Surgery Center On surgery day he came to talk to me before the procedure. Explaining what's going to happen. He is so calm and professional it makes you feel better. Surgery went great. I woke up sore to swallow but ok. The first 3 days of recovery were sore and than pretty good after that. So I'd recommend to take 3-4 days off of work. The incision is healing up nice after a week and a half. It looks like the incision is going to be pretty nice and clean.
