Midwest Mortuary Service

I would highly recommend Midwest Mortuary Service to anyone. Brian has made it so easy for us to…read morehandle the passing of my mother. I called several funeral places and he was the only person right from the start explained everything and was so companionate. He made a very difficult time more manageable for us.

I used Midwest Mortuary for the second time recently when my mother passed away. I remembered how helpful Midwest Mortuary was in handling my father's funeral, so I referred my brother to Midwest as I no longer live in the area. My mother did not have a plot and had not chosen any place to be buried. Midwest worked with my brother to choose a cemetery, tracked down the information needed, and helped arrange everything for the funeral. It was held in the small chapel at Skyline Memorial in Monee. A muted pinkish coffin was chosen, and when I saw it in person I was very happy and impressed with how beautiful it looked--yet my daughter told me it was the cheapest one, but she knew that her grandmother would have loved the color. My brother ordered the flowers for on top of the casket through Midwest and they were absolutely beautiful as well. My mother looked lovely and peaceful. We had my mother's pastor say a few words in the chapel to the family only, and then moved outside due to COVID times for any other guests. Midwest kept everything moving along smoothly, and once again I was grateful for Midwest's help. Again, it was an expense as most funerals are, but not as expensive as it could have been--yet everything looked beautiful and top quality. The cost for everything including the plot, burial, headstone, service, embalming, coffin, flowers, death certificates, prayer cards and guest book--anything else that I am leaving out--was approximately $12,000. Midwest will also allow you to pre-plan a funeral which isn't a bad idea so you can make choices when you are not feeling emotional. I am very happy that my brother ended up going with Midwest as he didn't know where to begin, and Midwest guided him through the process.

If I could give more than 5 stars, this would truly be the only place I would do it for…read more I lost my best friend in an accident; he was originally from Mexico, and his family lives there. So I had to take charge of the funeral arrangements, which is an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. Russ helped and guided me through this very difficult process for me and his family. From the moment I spoke with Russ, he made me feel like I wasn't just another customer, but that he understood my pain and loss. Regarding expenses, he was always communicative and presented options that fit our budget. He was also key in helping me obtain the necessary documents to transport the ashes to Mexico. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a kind, professional, empathetic, and caring person to handle the final farewell to their loved ones. (Russ, I'm sorry I ate almost all your chocolates!) Thank you so much for all your help.

One of my daughter's friends has lost her mother and recommended Inclusive Funeral Care. We we sat down with Russ Henrichsen to arrange transport from Glenbrook Hospital for eco-friendly water cremation. He asked if there was particular music my deceased wife enjoyed, to which I replied, the Bonnie Raitt & John Prine version of "Angel from Montgomery." The fact that they asked this question led me to believe that we had chosen wisely. We then had Brooke Benjamin serve as Memorial Celebrant for a Celebration of the Life of Kitty at Chicago Botanic Garden. She met with the family in one extensive 2-hour session that included the daughters, myself, the deceased's brother and sister, asking us questions about our beloved's childhood, family life, hobbies, education, political activism, etc. Even though Brooke had never met my wife, she really extracted her essence.... so much so that 10 people (of the 150 in attendance) asked me "Who was Kitty's friend who ran the ceremony?" Short of resurrecting the dead, the celebration simply could not have been better. Kitty is now in our niche in Graceland Cemetery. Brooke was also very accommodating in allowing us to design our own memorial cards--we fell behind a bit in planning the cards, but things came together at the last minute. If you are looking for funeral directors who present you with a set of options in understandable, plain-English, then Inclusive Funeral Care is for you. Brooke and Russ are really excellent people. They were never heavy handed, allowing us to choose the format of the program. When they offered suggestions we choose not to follow (e.g. having live musicians), there was never any sign of disappointment. I just can not find the words to express how grateful I am to Russ and Brooke at Inclusive Funeral Care.

During the wake, the main sitting room was very peaceful and serene. The decor was nice, neutral, and not over the top. There were rooms available to sit in to eat snacks. The room contained plenty of tables and chairs. They even have a kitchen in the basement that they allowed us to use for lunch after the burial service. There were about 100 people so they even opened up other rooms for others to sit and eat in that weren't meant for lounging. The whole place didn't seem eerie or creepy as other funeral homes that I've been to. The cemetery grounds was well kept and clean. We walked from the funeral home to the place where our loved one was going to get buried and it was a nice and peaceful walk. I guess I can end this review advising that this is a nice place to get buried in? *insert wide eyed emoji here*

About two weeks before the scheduled date, the cemetery called to tell me I could no longer have the date I reserved because they needed to close the cemetery for a "high-profile" burial. I later learned through the news that it was for a retired Chicago Bears player. What's frustrating is that they claimed it was for privacy, yet media coverage was allowed inside the cemetery. Because of the last-minute change, I lost a deposit at a restaurant we had booked, since they were unable to accommodate us on another date. I then had to scramble to make new arrangements during an already difficult time. A Very disappointing experience. I understand that unexpected situations can happen, but giving such short notice after months of planning--especially for something this important--caused unnecessary stress and financial loss. My grave markers are another disappointing experience still waiting. so a 2nd review is pending
