When you lose someone you love, sometimes it is the simplest acts of kindness and consideration by those caring family and friends around you that help comfort you. And those gestures stand out in the midst of the pain, drawing you to those feelings of hope. Lloyd and his team partake in those moments. From the second I met him at his office after my grandmother passed away in January, Lloyd was kind, patient, understanding - a true mensch, providing the mitzvah the moment calls for. Every detail, every question, every answer, every suggestion - smooth and helpful. Martin was at the funeral the day-of (4 degrees fahrenheit with much snow on the ground) with their beautiful Prinzing hearse. Riding out in style, just like my Eastern European babushka would have wanted. haha. Martin was very present, professional, and helpful. I am so thankful to you, Lloyd, and to your team for helping me so much and for making the process so smooth. Thank you. I highly recommend Mitzvah Memorial Funerals be your first call for help when someone you love passes. A+ all around. read more

My mom died from Covid in May 2020 and Bill Goodman helped me plan my mom's funeral. I have never had to do funeral planning before and did not know what I needed to do. Bill Goodman was compassionate and extremely helpful at every step. Everything was perfectly planned, he helped me find a great rabbi, created a lovely program and had everything coordinated and ready at the cemetery. I so much appreciate the kindness and making the funeral planning easy for me during a really tough time. read more

Our funeral arrangements were handled with great professionalism, sensitivity and efficiency. Lloyd Mandel was a reassuring and comforting presence during the entire process. At a very difficult time, it is good to be confident in the knowledge that wishes are respected and carried out, details are considered and carefully executed, all in an atmosphere of kindness and the carrying out of an important mitzvah. I can recommend the services of Mitzvah Memorials without hesitation. read more

Lloyd was completely sensitive and wonderful throughout the entire process of my father's funeral. He took care of everything and made sure we had nothing to worry about during the most difficult time of our lives. He was completely professional and everything went flawlessly. He created beautiful programs with pictures, collected our photos to create a memorial website, brought everything to the house we needed, helped us to create a beautiful obituary, and was overall wonderful to work with. I would highly recommend using Mitzvah Memorial. I highly disagree with all negative reviews of this business. read more

I had made pre-paid funeral arrangements with them for my mother several years in advance of her death. When the time came, a phone call to them was all that was needed for them to handle all matters immediately and completely, with great care and compassion, all according to what had been agreed upon. (This included the complication of a graveside internment and service in a cemetery 200 miles from Chicago.) The burden of details they lifted from the shoulders of my sister and me enabled us to grieve our mother properly. What a wonderful organization and a wonderful staff. read more

Bill & Olivia at Mitzvah Deerfield were beyond wonderful. They handled my dad's funeral arrangements with compassion, sympathy and professionalism. My dad passed away on a Wednesday and we wanted to have the funeral on Friday. They made it happen with such ease. They held our hand and made it work for our family. During such a sad time they brought a smile to our face and felt at home with them. There are not enough words to thank them for taking care of us and my dad during such a sad time. read more

Bill Goodman and his team were a source of compassion and reliability at our time of need. Went above and beyond the call to help with some hints that were a little out of the ordinary. Recommend without reservation. read more

Our family recently had the opportunity to rely on Lloyd Mandel in planning a funeral for our mom. Living out of the area we would have been like "deer in the headlights" without the help and guidance from Lloyd and his staff. From the easily understood information on the website, to the request for pictures for the gravesite program, his arrangement for flowers, and everything in between, we had a warm, special "send off" for the matriarch of our family. If a funeral could have been "perfect", this was it! Many, many "Thank yous" to LLoyd and staff read more

Working with Bill and Olivia was a bright spot during a very dark period for our family. They seemed to find just the right balance of compassion, patience and professionalism while guiding us through the practical aspects of a traditional service in the modern world. Personally, I found their level of respect and support mirrored my needs precisely at any given moment. I felt neither neglected nor smothered while emotions of the week took their toll. We brought all the family wishes together and they efficiently carried out the arrangements with dignity and precision. All this while being sensitive to budget concerns and logistical challenges. I still find comfort viewing the beautiful memorial page they quickly created during my appointment. It includes the obituary they adeptly edited with photos from my phone. Full disclosure: While looking into advance planning, we considered two other Jewish Funeral Directors in the Chicago market who were very nice. Mitzvah Memorial was the best fit for our family in terms of cost and peace of mind. When the time came, the hospice coordinator made one call to Bill. In less than 45 minutes his out-of-state business partner arrived. In the end we remember the beautiful service, the lovely arrangements, the support materials for shiva, and Mitzvah Memorial's seamless guidance - without the sticker shock. read more

Mitzvah Memorial had my review removed from Yelp, but this is too important not to post again. These guys are completely incompetent. They did a terrible job on my father's funeral and made a terrible time all the more stressful for me and my family. They may be the cheapest option out there, but saving a few dollars was definitely not worth the added pain they caused. read more

A Yiddish word that means "a person of integrity", is Mensch; what we might call a "good guy". This is how I would describe Lloyd Mandel, the man, and his business, Mitzvah Memorial Funerals. The sudden, unexpected loss of our sister is the challenge we brought to Mitzvah Memorial. Lloyd spent time listening to our concerns and issues with compassion and understanding, and was able to guide us through this emotional experience in the gentlest possible way. We felt as though he was a part of our family, making suggestions and taking care of every detail. He never tried to "sell us" on anything; almost the opposite, by eliminating unnecessary or costly items that would not add that much to our ceremony. So on a bitter cold day, our graveside service had all of the warmth and tradition of one that was held in a chapel. It was simply a beautiful tribute to a special woman. We give Mitzvah Memorial Funerals and Lloyd Mandel our thanks. He helped us make our tragic loss a little easier to bear. read more

Bill Goodman and Olivia were wonderful. They showed the right amount of compassion while being very efficient too. I've dealt with the large corporation Funeral Homes and found Mitzvah much easier to work with at such a difficult time. The program they put together was beautiful. Thank you, Bill and Olivia. read more
