I took my bike in on Sunday, it needed a new crank system, a handle bar fix and new brakes, and I got it back on Thursday - not a bad turnaround time in the spring.

Jan, the guy who runs the place, was super nice, helped me out to find some pedals exactly for what I wanted to use them for and let me use the shops tools to switch them out. Bike shops like this always get love from me - not only do they sell things to you but also help you help yourself and let you use all the tools that you would love to have, but dont have the space (or cash) to invest in it. Also, though these guys are all bike geeks, if you come with your old Hollandrad they wont raise their noses at you. Overall a great bike shop and will probably end up being my preferred LBS (local bike shop).

They installed it and it wobbled the exact same !! I contacted Metzler and there was NEVER a tire returned tire from PYRAT BIKES ! PLUS, what is the chance of getting 2 fucked tires from Metzler ?? I've had a couple small things done here on my MTB over the past two years, but nothing major. I usually buy my replacement parts online anyway so also didn't really shop here. Yet, recently I added a high end road bike to my riding wares and brought it here for final adjustments after assembly. The guy actually looks like a mean F&%cker as he doesn't laugh much. BUT, he's really nice and the only guy in Hamburg I've found who ALWAYS takes your bike and repairs it. Further, he does this at most in one day. All the other putzes at bike shops in the Hamburg area basically try to rob you first, then keep your bike for a week and in the end, actually do crap work. Not here. I go nowhere else when it comes to bikes and repairs in Hamburg.

These folks were the fastest to respond, gave me a fixed price immediately, and were able to reserve a time for me, all over email. While I did this in German, the person that assisted me in the store spoke perfect English (far better than my hacked-up German), so I'm sure that would have been fine as well if you're German isn't at a bike-packing level yet. They were a bit busy when I came to drop off my bike around 11am on Monday, so I ended up waiting about 5-10 minutes. At pickup, though, it was super fast, so I don't think this is a common problem. My bike was perfectly packed in a Specialized box, just as they receive their own bikes. The service was a flat 40€, which seems completely appropriate to me. The store itself is huge and just a joy to browse if you're into cycling. Seeing how most bike shops in Hamburg are of the beach-cruiser variety, it's refreshing to see a store that carries mostly road and mountain bikes. They also have your standard set of accessories and nutrition, including a good variety of PowerBar products if you're searching for those. Only downside is that, location-wise, they're a bit hard to reach. There is a stop for the 5 bus not far, which may be the most convenient option for most. They also have their own parking lot in the back. That's probably easier if you're going to be hauling a bike box back. This place would definitely be my first pick if I needed road bike servicing.

So MSP was chosen for my new bikeonly because I already have a Trek Hybrid from England (I love it) and wanted to look at the ION-CX. A dealer check on the Trek website pointed to MSP. So over I went, and guess what they don't really do Trek bikes well not that I could see anyway. Perhaps they are an authorised dealer but mainly in the store they carry Hamburg (but well respected) brand Bergamont bikes. To cut a long story short, I bought a CX bike from them and so far have been very happy. They slotted in my pre-sale check (bearing in mind we were a couple of weekends away from the Cyclassics) the same day and since then I have covered nearly 200kms on my great new bike. I also left my Trek in for a service. At 40 euro or so its good value and I havent had it serviced for 3 years so it really needed doing. Unfortunately the bill came in at EUR250 for new brakes, new back wheel, new cassette, new chain which even though it's a lot or work is waaay higher than I would pay in the UK and actually not massively less than I paid for the bike in the first place! However that apart, the staff were keen and friendly even with very little English and putting up with my super awful German; they care about bikes and seem very easy to deal with. So I will keep using them for my servicing, and am pretty happy to far..

Two things that I really like about this place: it's open relatively long hours (including staying…read moreopen until 5pm on Saturday) and it's pretty cheap. The former is probably the main reason that these guys see so much business from me. It's pretty hard to get your bike fixed anywhere else at 4pm on a Saturday in Hamburg! One slight problem is that they speak zero English. However, even with my pretty poor level of German, I've always been able to get by.

I didn't need to book the service (other shops I went had space only for the following month), bike was ready next day (no major work anyway) and at a reasonable price.
