I recently went on The Thirsty Pedaler with a group of people I work with. We had a great time! This is definitely a unique experience, and unlike anything else I had done before. As it turns out, it was much more difficult than any of us were expecting! I thought it would be a leisurely pedal while we sipped our drinks.. Nope! There's a lot of resistance in those pedals, and you have to pedal hard! We were all sweating by the time we made it to the first bar! But, it was a warm day while we were out.
There are two routes you can choose from, the Bourbon Route and the Nulu Route. Which route is right for you will depend on several factors like time of day (some bars may not be open), which bars you want to visit (they prefer all of your bars be on the same route), etc. They let us choose our route just before hopping on the bike, so we just reviewed the list and chose the Bourbon Route on a whim. We opted to visit El Barrio and Down One.
Each bar on the routes runs specials for The Thirsty Pedaler, which is nice. El Barrio got us in and out in no time, and they were well-versed in having people stop in from the Thirsty Pedaler route. We had 1/2 off margaritas and free chips and salsa. Down One had no idea what we were talking about when we walked in, told us they didn't have specials for that, and were pretty slow about serving us and getting us back out the door. Since you only have about 25 minutes in each bar, this could be an issue depending on the size of your group.
Overall our experience was great! Our Thirsty Pedaler captain was fun and bubbly, and we all had a great time. I would definitely recommend trying out the Thirsty Pedaler at least once, just to have the experience. And it was great for our work crew, because it really is a bonding experience, so if you're looking for something for your office to do, I'd say this is definitely it.
TIL: Definitely bring a cooler stocked with beverages. You can't bring drinks out of the bars, so you'll want to be stocked on the bike while you're pedaling. You can only bring cans, and everything has to go in a solo cup (but they'll supply these if you don't have them). Our group also brought Jello shots, and that worked out really well, so I'd highly recommend that! read more
