We had a fantastic day with Kentucky Guides, and our guide, Montana, made the experience seamless and enjoyable from start to finish. We began at Four Roses with their Sip and Stroll tour. The California-inspired architecture is stunning, and even though production was paused for the summer, we learned a great deal about their history and process while enjoying the beauty of the grounds. Lunch at The Stave was absolutely fabulous--such a cool local spot with great atmosphere and delicious food. From there, we continued to Woodford Reserve, where the tour was both thorough and engaging. Seeing fermentation in action, learning about their copper stills, and getting a detailed explanation of the bourbon-making process was a highlight. After a quick photo stop at Castle & Key, we ended the day at the iconic Buffalo Trace Distillery. At 92 degrees, much of the tour was hot, but we were fortunate to see multiple steps of the distilling process up close. Each distillery offered something unique, and together they created the perfect bourbon trail experience. A special shout-out to Bob White, the owner of Kentucky Guides, who was incredibly responsive and easy to work with in planning our day. He even stopped by during our lunch to check in, which was such a thoughtful touch. There may be fancier tour operators out there, but Kentucky Guides impressed us with their professionalism, local connections, and genuine care for their guests. We just got back from an amazing trip to Louisville, Kentucky to celebrate my husband's 45th birthday, and we couldn't be happier that we chose Kentucky Bourbon Guides for our day tour. We booked with them after reading all the glowing reviews about Bob White, and now we completely understand why he's so highly rated! Bob, the owner, was also our personal guide for the day. He picked us up right on time in a super comfortable, well air-conditioned bus -- perfect for a warm Kentucky day. Somehow, he managed to get us into the Old Taylor tour at Buffalo Trace, which is notoriously hard to book. It was an awesome experience. For lunch, we stopped at The Stave, and honestly, it was some of the best food we had all weekend. Afterward, we strolled around the beautiful grounds of Castle & Key and enjoyed cocktails by the river -- such a peaceful and scenic spot. Next was a tasting at Glenn's Creek Distillery, followed by a visit to Woodford Reserve for another delicious cocktail. Along the way, we soaked in the stunning views of Kentucky's famous horse farms -- absolutely picturesque. As a fun final touch, Bob let us stop for some beers on the ride back to Louisville. Our hosts at Bourbon Barrel Retreats recommend Kentucky Guides, (Kentucky Bourbon Bob) as I had no idea where to start and how to plan to get the most out of our Kentucky bourbon trail trip. Talk about a SCORE! Bob is amazing! I told him the distilleries we wanted to see and he took it and ran! He set up an itinerary of places to see, the times for everything, set up the tours & prepaid the admissions so we didn't have to do anything once we got there. Every distillery we went to knew Bob. It was like being a VIP every place we went. He made recommendations of places to eat and even picked up lunches for us to eat on his bus while we traveled from one place to another. I call Bob a "Kentucky encyclopedia". His knowledge, not only of Kentucky history, but the history of all the distilleries was amazing. He answered all our questions and then some. If we wanted to change something, he made a phone call and made it happen. We would have been lost without him. One suggestion he made was to go the cooperage (where they make the barrels). Scheduled a trip through Bourbon country with the hopes of learning more of the great history of both Bourbon and Kentucky. I have to say that Bob absolutely made the trip for us, I cannot say enough about his wealth of knowledge. We had only scheduled one actual tour when we reached out to Bob, Maker's Mark, he then suggested some other distilleries (which was not the easiest with the current restrictions) that he thought we would like. He asked ahead of time if we wanted to stop for lunch, or do a "brown bag" on the drive, to have more time for tours. We elected for the "brown bag", and he provided us with several options, which turned out great! We left at roughly 10am, and had him drop us for dinner (at Jeff Ruby's) at roughly 8pm, he arrived with a cooler ready, and a great selection of tunes for our ride (~1.5 hours from Louisville to Bourbon country), and honestly most of the time was spent talking to Bob about all of the Bourbon families, and the history of it all. Bob made this trip everything we had hoped for and more, I'll be back, and I will use Bob every time. I would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a great experience. read more

Kentucky Guides was highly recommended, and now I know why. I was fortune enough to be able book KG for 2 days this past week, and it was more than my friends and I could have hoped for. The owner Bob White took us out the first day, and the wealth of knowledge he has about bourbon and its history was incredible. Our first stop was to the cooperage which I honestly thought was unnecessary, but I was wrong. To see how the bourbon barrels were made was fascinating, and a huge help when going on distillery tours. The second day we had Bob's driver Montana take us around, and he too was a wealth of knowledge and has over 20 years' experience as a Kentucky tour guide. What was great about both Bob & Montana is they took us to large distilleries that we had requested, but they also took us to some smaller independent distilleries which turned out in a few cases to better than the big distilleries. Bob was responsive to my emails, and was happy to answer all my questions, and also to make suggestions about where to eat and stay while in Louisville. I highly recommend Kentucky Guides. Bob was one of the best guides that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have been several times to Napa, Oregon wine country, and now the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. This was by far the best trip of all of them, and it was all thanks to Bob. His knowledge of Bourbon goes way beyond your typical talk of taste, recipe, and proof. He delves into the in-depth personal history of each distillery and location giving you some of the most interesting facts that you would not normally hear from a typical tour guide / driver. Highly recommend! Bob helped me in planning a surprise trip to Louisville for my husband's birthday. From the very beginning, he helped me every step of the way. Just returned from a Girls Weekend in KY. Since this was the first time there we really had no idea what to do. Someone suggested Bob White and it was the best decision we made for this trip! He is very knowledgeable about Bourbon and about KY in general. He was very quick in getting back to me and setting up our day. We spent a full day with Bob White from Kentucky tours on March 8. he set up our entire itinerary for the day which was awesome. We went to Buffalo trace he also took us to this great burger spot for lunch. And we also did a quick tasting of bourbon at some little bourbon starter up distillery. We spent seven hours with him and it went by very quick. We went to Woodford reserve he took us through where all the racehorses are bread, which was simply amazing. I highly recommend using him. We used Bob's service to book 2 days on the Bourbon Trail. Our driver, Rich, picked us up on time each day, he kept us on schedule and delivered us back safely both nights! Bob planned a great tour for us, unfortunately Buffalo Trace was still closed due to flooding, but he was able to find a replacement quickly!
