The food was REALLY tasty and my departed uncle would have loved it: sliders (brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken), green chili mac & cheese, loaded potato salad, jalapeño poppers, peach cobbler, banana pudding, and soft drinks. I had to find catering in a hurry, and it was extremely easy to work out a plan with Jonathan. One of his practices is to get the caterers to the venue WELL in advance (2 hours), and this was confirmed to be a good idea because somehow the catering team was given the wrong address and had to scurry to get to us and set up in time. The serving team was great, though, and everything turned out OK. These things happen, in my view. The only criticism I have is that the food was served in small pasteboard baskets rather than on plates. This had the unfortunate effect of making it look as though we were trying to keep the guests from eating much, and it seemed better suited to more casual outdoor events, perhaps ones where people are standing and milling. If offered a choice in advance, I would definitely have picked plates. One more thing to consider: we had a ton of leftovers and no easy way to take them home (except a few bits in those baskets). I hated to waste the food but just couldn't manage a plan at the last minute. Not the caterers' responsibility, of course, but you will want the leftovers!

Chef Aundre hit on ALL of those. I reached out to him and 3 other in-home chefs through Yelp after reading their reviews. Chef Aundre was the only one that seemed to really get what I was trying to do. He had me complete a brief survey and then proposed a menu that was different from our usual, but still simple enough that we could make it any day. He arrived promptly and well-prepared. He brought all of the ingredients and made sure they were quality, natural and organic. He walked us through our menu and coached us along the way - showing us cutting techniques, cooking techniques and even plate presentation tips and tricks. Mac-n-Cheese, Chicken-fried steak...generally fried anything. Welcome Camille Asake's wonderful new menu--inspired by the rich traditions of Continental Africa--to the competition. I will touch on the logistics and then move to the heart of her cuisine...Camille's has handled events for us ranging from 15 people to over 100, and the small details--timeliness, presentation and hospitality--are consistent and make for no surprises. Her prices are $$ on a scale of 1-5. The surprises come in the form of a wide array of Africa-inspired foods--built around Jollof (rice) to Omisagwe (Peanut Soup) to West African plantains to As Efo Tete (Yoruban "greens" which amusingly means "we have money still for fish")--and traditional foods grilled in the West African style. If you have never had cuisine from Central or West Africa, the content is not unlike what might happen if you crossed "southern" cuisine with Caribbean. For the adventurous, Camille's plates can be made spicy-to-order, which comes less like the Latin America "fire" created when you chomped down on a chili and in a more subtle manner (subtle but extended:) as the heat is established over time. Camille's culinary skills include Western or European talents as well, so it is possible to "mix" orders and provide a meal all will love. There are a couple of wonderful restaurants in the DFW area where you can also sample such menus, but if you want the food delivered to your doorstep in the Arlington/Ft. Worth area, I can't recommend someone more highly than Camille!
