Wannamaker's Bakeshop - Cookie dough and Cookies n Cream donuts!

Wannamaker's Bakeshop

I have driven past this place so many times, but never stopped...until the other weekend, when a…read moresimple sign at the side of the road that said "Donuts" tempted me into finally going in and WOW...what took me so long?? An INCREDIBLE amount of fun donuts and other baked goods, I wanted to try absolutely everything. They have a homemade cream that they use to fill some of their donuts, and they are also massive! Do you know what wasn't massive? The cost. Everything was reasonably priced and definitely worth it for these fresh baked treats. I'm going to need to return so that I can sample many more of these items - it was SO hard to pick what I wanted the first time since it all looked delectable. So grateful that we have these wonderful businesses here!

Must stop if you're in the Trenton area or visiting Prince Edward County. Everything at…read moreWannamaker's is made from scratch using real ingredients, fresh fruit for fillings, and butter. They make a wide variety of goodies such as cheesecakes, cinnamon buns, donuts, cookies, pies cakes, squares, brownies, butter tarts, whoopie pies and orders for all types of custom Birthday cakes. I've been here several times and tried most of their donuts including apple fritters, sugar twist, Boston cream, dutchies and raspberry filled. Each was outstanding and can't say one was a favourite. They're all delicious! Their probably most famous for their ginormous cinnamon buns. They're as large as my face and I could never finish them in one sitting. They're flavourful very filling. Highly recommend this bakery. You won't be disappointed!

One thing I love about small towns is that random people have no problem striking up conversation…read morewith you...anywhere. The other day we chatted with a lovely couple at Gus's Family Restaurant in Picton. He told us he was a chef at It's Wickedly Sweet, a small bakery about 15 drive from where we were. He had me at "Apple Pie" and "Bakery", so today I grabbed my fellow pie-connoisseur and made a lovely morning country drive to what TripAdvisor reviews called a "tiny hole in the wall that is a must-visit." We had a chuckle at the fun sign for the little shop "Wickedly Sweet", with a picture of a witch complete with pointy hat and matching nose and chin. I liked it. We walked into exactly what we expected: a small country shop with colourful baked yumminess behind glass, wrapped in plastic and displayed on tables and jarred preserves in various flavours on the shelves. Tchotchkes and other country decor filled the walls and it all felt welcoming and comforting. Dan, the gentleman we met at the restaurant, came out to greet us and took the time to tell us all about the goods. He's very friendly and personable, something I picked up when we chatted with him at Gus's. Chiara and I did well - between the two of us, we picked up 2 chicken pies, a tourtière (apparently traditionally made...with apple!), a blueberry, a mango/pineapple/raspberry pie, mixed berry crumble pie, a few muffins, a bag of chocolate chip cookies (of course) a banana loaf, and a small box of tarts and a brownie. All of these for around $80 - pretty reasonable if you ask me, considering most of their goods are baked fresh that morning. (I really admire small business owners of home baked/cooked/made anything.) Sadly, their apple pies weren't ready, but we will be coming back soon to buy them. (Maybe we'll call ahead next time?) What we've sampled from our stash so far has been very, very good. The pie crusts were buttery yet light. (Delicious) The chicken pie was really good. The tourtière was an interesting mix of savoury beef mixed with apple and cinnamon...which, we're told is a traditional Quebecoise flavour. The "Plain Jane" butter tarts were perfect, the cookies were a hit with the kids and I was told by my entire family that i didn't buy enough brownies. At tomorrow's dinner party, we'll be trying the mango/pineapple/raspberry pie. I can't wait. Maybe I'll have to go back to It's Wickedly Sweet sooner.
