We came here at 09:30am on a Sat morning. I'm usually a Starbucks guy but no one can argue against the fact that little coffee shops like these offer higher quality brews, cause that's just a fact. It's near the Brick steakhouse which I will be reviewing tonite on my third visit. In the morning it's a chill vibe cause the adjacent restaurants are mostly closed but later in the day you will enjoy a more lively atmosphere due to bustling people in the nearby restaurants and bars.

Walking up it was sad to see who moved into the neighborhood...the green mermaid. I'm looking out the front window and can see Starbucks between 2 kiosks in the mall. Not sure when they moved in. El Sorbo is packed. That's good. Hopefully theres room for both to coexist peacefully. I have been known to frequent Starbucks now and again. El Sorbo has a more sophisticated clientele, which often equates to spending more money. If your in the area, and want some great coffee or pastries and a great place to go and chill. Come to El Sorbo and take a pass on the mermaid. Salud!

That being said, finding a quality cup of coffee in GDL to my taste is easier said than done. That was until I found Café Oro Maya. This place is located near Chapalita, one of the best places to find great food in GDL. Just across the street from the glorieta, you'll find easy parking right in-front. With comfortable seating inside and out, you'll find a selection of traditional Mexican coffees. Or, as I often do, I'll get a coffee "para llevar" (to-go) and stroll the glorieta, which often has artists selling beautiful paintings/sculptures. The owner/operator is very friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee he sells, which originates from the Chiapas region of Mexico. The coffee is grown in fair trade and environmentally sustainable conditions. The owner seemed to recognize that my Spanish isn't the best, and spoke to me about his coffees in English, but I still force myself to learn and speak in Spanish, because it sounds much better. While sipping a Mayan espresso, I find myself relaxing in this beautiful shop, playing a game of dominoes, and wishing I could take this coffee home with me to California. I'll settle for a pound of beans to take back with me on the plane, because I know I'll be back soon, and will always make it a point to visit Café Oro Maya.

Everything is made with their organic coffee grown in the Chiapas region of Mexico. They also sell their beans, chocolate, and cacao nibs for you to take home. I've always walked by it, but never had the opportunity to grab something, because I was always on the go. However, when a buddy of mine came down from Aguascalientes, I couldn't resist. Walking in, it is a narrow because they share space with another restaurant, which makes it unique in a sense. They have a little barricade along the wall to separate the two businesses. The walls have murals which you can notice and catch your attention while walking into and passing by the shop.
